When I was thinking of buying this set, I was wondering why it was so expensive. But as I was categorizing all pieces I found out. Many of the items are authentic, miniature sizes. Not to mention that they included quite the assortment of items. For example, a real, Erasermate eraser was included for the 'E' container. A real bell, a real notebook, a metal pan, etc. The only items that were not authentic, were items like a xylophone, that would be impossible or too costly to be made real. These types of items are vinyl.

I am a pre-primary teacher and teach children ages 3-6 and all the children LOVE this toy! We play games where we take out 2 or 3 tubs at a time, identify the objects and place them in a pile. Each child will take turns picking an object and deciding which tub it goes into. If they have difficulty I give them hints such as the beginning letter sounds or for the very young, I'll ask, is this a "Rrrr" rrrrobot, or a "T" Tobot? They think it's funny. When I get these phonics tubs out before you know it I have a crowd of children wanting to play. We have had this toy for YEARS and even the children that have mastered their letter sounds still love to play with it. I always have a teacher monitor it so that we don't end up with lost or missing items. However, when I ordered it they sent me a form so that you can always reorder any items that become lost for a small fee.

I am a 7th grade Geography teacher in Oklahoma, and this is probably the best book I've ever bought as far as usefulness for my classroom goes. The lessons hit on the most important topics when discussing the Middle East such as stereotypes about the Middle East, water shortages, terrorism/extremism, oil, land disputes, religious conflict, etc. I used at least 5 lessons straight from the book, which is saying a lot coming from me. I am very rarely satisfied with pre-made lessons, but I only made very minor changes to the instructions the authors gave.

One of my favorite lessons is called "Going Home?". It starts off with a brief timeline of the history of the Jewish people to show where their religion originated and give some perspective about the hardships they had to face throughout history. Next, students are presented with 6 exhibits of primary and secondary source documents all revolving around the history of Palestine/Israel. They are:

-Letter from British government to Jewish leader

-Table showing immigration into Palestine between 1920 and 1945

-A picture of Palestinians protesting Jewish immigration

-Pictures from the Holocaust

-A newspaper article telling the story of a Jewish ship that was refused entry into Palestine

-An excerpt from a speech by David Ben-Gurion declaring the new state of Israel

Students look through the evidence by themselves, with partners, or in a small group. The teacher can choose how in depth you want to go with each exhibit. I personally assigned one exhibit to each small group and then had them present their findings to the rest of the class. As each group presented their exhibit, students completed the "Putting Words in Their Mouths" activity. Basically, they came up with a quote that different people involved in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict might have said based on the exhibits presented. The people they had to compose quotes for were

-A British political leader

-A Holocaust survivor

-A Palestinian Arab

-An Israeli settler

-A British soldier who removed refugees from the Exodus 1947

-A reporter who witnessed the events of the Arab Uprising

-Someone in the crowd at Gurion's speech

My students really enjoyed getting to work with actual documents from the time and they enjoyed the activity overall. This is but one example of the kind of lessons you can get from this book. I would highly recommend this product for both Geography and History teachers.

My 9 month old daughter loves this show! She claps and dances to the music and is just fascinated with it. We have collected all of the characters for her she loves to pull them apart and then stick them back together. They are great learning tools ... we use them to point out letters, the sounds they make, the sounds they make when they come together and then the word itself! A great association tool. And they can take quite the beating from her as well!

The one thing I will add is that we found them much cheaper at our Target and they are sold individually. So I don't know why they are so expensive through the 3rd party.

My brother just called me to ask if I can give his baby the dog that I have because their dog have fallen apart and they are devastated. They got it from someone who bought it from Target or Wallmart at 9 something and it was the cheap version that came in this orange/green packaging and they were so happy they got it and now they are desperate to replace it. I saw their other dog and it did not felt or looked like the first adition at all. My first edition dog came with dvd and it is solid. It is so well built that he was amazed when he compared them. So yes, there is cheaper version out there sometimes but beware!!! I don't think you want to risk toy taht might dissintegrate on your baby. Go look for the real mccoy. companies nowdays substitute and economize to save and make cheaper toys but the outcome is not that great. They have similar lookig product but the durability and quality is lost. I don't recommend the cheap dog. Look for the one that comes in white packaging with DVD check auctions and other places as it is not sold in stores anymore, they changed the model to cheaper one. The white first edition packaging was retailing in toy stores for 50.00 plus at the time. I found one jsut a second ago and bidding on it so if you really look you can find it, but it is hard really hard. I don't want to part with our set as this is lovely memories but I will get a new dog for my brother's baby or else till then they are using our doggie as baby missed it so much, but I wanna my baby doggie back badly :) end of update.

HUGE TIP: beware of sellers who remove the dog from packaging and sell it as is without packaging as you might be buyig the cheap one instead of deluxe version first edition. So check with your seller ask questions which dog are they selling if it is without the box, I had to learn it the hard way.

HUGE TIP NUMBE 2: how to tell apart if you are dealing with the dog from new cheaper edition or the original deluxe series in the white box if it comes without a box? Easy.. the new cheap dog has his head on the G, the classic first edition good one has his head on D! easy to spot difference.

It is just amazing how quickly my baby learned letter recognition and puting words together in order thanks to these animals.

The whole family was amazed how those little hands could put togehter the dog, cat, zebra, cow, etc.. all animals in the set

together in a snap.

We started with the dog as it is her faforite animal, obviously like most kids :) and then we gradually were adding on

animals untill we ended up with the whole set before we knew it. It is so rewording to see your tinny treasure to

be able to do words!!! that it is jsut breath taking.

We did not need any foring techinques, flash cards or anything, she was just grasping the concept from my taking apart

the animal, sounding the letters and puting them together back for her few times and then she got it like

in the same day and from that day on she knew.

I think this should be every paretnt's every baby first educational toy. It is so baby friendly, perfect for the sens of touch,

soft and cozy what actually is said to develop brain faster.

It is sucha pleasing design and there are places to chew on if you need ha ha ha..

We take the animals everyhwere we go and she does not only have fun she is reinforcing her reading skills and preparing

for future writing without knowing it!

We were lucky to get the animals that were issued in those white boxed packaging with DVD inside. Not the other version in

the orangy cheaper packaging and without DVD. Difference is really apparent. I got the animals as a gift to my niece

but I could not find anywhere the first edition in white packaging with bluish background and DVd included in the box

so Igot the other set on e by and apparently they are not the same. Similar and all but the quality is not the same.

The original edition animals are more plumpy, solid, and have better and more baby friendly feel and touch to them

whereas the other not the white boxedition has cheaper feel to it.

Overall we are very very pleased with the set. I have heard that this design got so many rewards and it is so popular among parents

and I totally agree with the notion. It is great for the baby and it teaches something useful for life unlike so many toys

that do nothing. It is good to see your baby having so much fun and stay engaged for good while with them.

It is amazing how long attention span the baby has while playing with the animals.

As she grows I marvel how she can put together the simple words from different animals for fun.. as in she would take

different letters from different animals and still spell the word dog or cat or cow correctly and giggles

that each letters is from different animal.. like for instance she will take L from the lion with the head,

then put i from the fish and then o from the dog and n from the lion again and she is so proud to do that.

It shows me that she is not only putting animal together, she is actually aware of the letters..

and to prove it she can take just the letters without heads and not color coded and at random

pull the letters and put together a word that is independent of characters..

soooooo cooooooooool

I am shopping for the original set now to get it for Christmas for two beloved babies in the family

and they are so hard to find, yet I won't stop till I find them. This is THE gift of learning and

I wont' settle for less :)

I love the PBS program of WORDWORLD. The show is entertaining and educational. Unfortunately the manufacturer of the toy line would benefit the general public by offering the entire Word World character line of plush toys to be sold individually. The toy I purchased was sent in a timely manner and in perfect condition. The DOG plush is the main character and is the one my one year granddaughter relates to. Unfortunately this character does not come to Target individually barcoded so can only be ordered through third party companies. As a result a 9.99 retail priced toy costs 25.00 plus. I am very pleased with the toy otherwise and DOG added to my granddaughters first birthday as this is the one toy she recognized and was delighted with.

I did a lot of searching for a remote controled vechile for my 2 yr. old grandson. And I found this cute thing for him. His eyes got real big when he opened this toy. Of course we had to stop everything and put batteries in and let him run it around the house. So far ( one month later ) it is still going strong. So I would say it is very sturdy if it hasn't broke by now with him and his 4 yr. old sister playing with it. The controls are very easy for his little hands to use.

My sister purchased a similar product to Chopper the Number Copter made by The Learning Journey that her daughter loved to play with. When The Learning Journey came out other remote control vehicles I was excited to buy one for my son. He picked out Chopper the Number Copter due to his love of helicopters. This is a great way to work on his numbers with him and he has fun using the remote control to go back and forth. My favoriate feature is the autmatic shut off. Since I am so busy I usually forget to turn his toys off so this helps me from buying batteries all the time!

Manufacturer and amazon recommend this for up to age 7. My opinion is that this is a cute game for a younger crowd, 2-5. My step-son is 6 years old and in kindergarten. He knows most of the answers to the games so it's not very challenging and he doesn't seem to be learning anything from it. The Apple Picking game is fun but not enough to entertain him for long. I'm thinking this game will be abandoned quickly but adored by his younger sister.

Our little boy is 2. He loves numbers and letters. He received this for Christmas and it holds his attention for 30 minutes or more, which is extremely unusual. It's also great for the car. He really loves the "apple picking" game and picked it up quickly. I was surprised that it actually has real calculator capabilities, too. It adds and subtracts, even using large or negative numbers. This is a winner for us!

Overall I really like this dump truck. It rolls well on tile floors & thin carpeting and my daughter has had a lot of fun playing with it so far. It's made of solid wood with water based paints so I like that it's a safer option than plastic. My only complaint is that the paint lacks durability. The truck arrived with a couple chips in the paint initially and after just a short period of gentle play had several more.

Nice quality solid construction and no issues with paint coming off or parts breaking so far (a few months after purchase). Also bought the Little Copter and Little Plane. Of the three, the Little Copter is my 12mo old's favorite, I think because of the propeller. But if you are interested in getting multiple pieces I do recommend the whole set. Very pleased with the Hape products I have purchased.

This is one of the coolest manipulative toys for education that I have ever seen. I worked with the PTA of the elementary school that my daughter attended and if I had known about this product back then I would have recommended that the PTA purchase some of them for the early classes.

They are thin sticks approximately six inches long that can be bent into shapes and then restored. What sets them apart from pipe cleaners is that they stick to nearly all surfaces. When I read that characteristic in the documentation, I tried sticking them to nearly everything in my home office, the only surface that was questionable was the plastic case of my monitor.

The package also contains a set of thick paper panels containing the numbers one through twenty with the goal being that the student will bend the stix into the shape(s) of the number. This will also teach manual dexterity while the knowledge of small numbers is being absorbed. Their flexibility will also allow them to be used in simple constructions of two and three-dimensional shapes. There is no better way to understand shapes than to create them using your hands. The stix are also completely safe, they contain a food-grade non-toxic wax and no latex or nut products. Parents that want to give their children educational toys and leaders of scout troops will also find them very valuable in teaching the children. My daughter was playing with these at school so I decided to reinforce at home. There are many cards and Stix. The Stix seem to loss their sticky pretty fast and crimp up. We are using the cards to trace on now. Overall a good educational toy but probably need to buy extra Stix.

I love this thingit is so pretty and occupies my little one. He is 8 months and loves to play with the shapes and knock down little towers that I make. He can't sort out the shapes into the holes yet, but he'll get there. I love that there are no sharp edges too.

The only complaint I have is that the square shapes are red, orange and yellow, while the triangle shapes are all green and the circles are all blue. Why didn't Hape either make each shape a shade of the same color, or each size of each shape a different color? It's annoying to say "the green triangles, the blue circles, and the various colored squares". That said, it's an awesome toy.

I am very pleased with this toy. Simple shapes, easy for little ands to hold....and run around the house with and leave at the bottom of the laundry basket.....but I digress. The shapes are symmetrical so there is no wrong way to fit them into their corresponding holes. They also stack on top of each other. My daughter likes to make little totem poles with each group. A variety of learning opportunities including teaching basic colors (red yellow, orange, blue green), introducing the concept of shades of colors (dark blue, light blue etc) and also size (small, medium, large). Highly recommend!

Oh my goodness, The girls I babysit for love this wand but the noise is terrible. After both of them fighting over it and then both getting a chance to play with it I had a migraine. Absolutely one of those toys to give to a child where the parent drives you crazy :-) In the toys defense the girls do have a good time playing with it and they love to run around and cast spells with it not very educational though.
