I am an earth science teacher, and use this toy during our volcano unit to demonstrate a Yellowstone style hot spring geyser with gas pressure build up.

Honest reviews on Geyser Tube with Caps

You can't not love this toy!!! We tried to make mentos and diet coke "bomb" with out the kit and it was a big mess without the cool heights you can get with this product. My little boys love "mythbusters" and made their day to be able to do one of the stunt they did on tv (actually Netflix) at home.

Every child should have a chance to shoot diet coke into the air!!

This a great item for a curious child...there are 100 experiments that allow a child (and the equally interested parent..at least in our case!!) to examine basic principles as well as delve deeper with the included additional activities to further prove the role of science in everyday events. The kit starts off with water-based experiments, moves on to those addressing air, heat, sound, force, magnets, electricity, electro-magnetism, light/shadow, optical instruments, plants/animals, colors, the human body, earth/sun, and chemistry...while some of the experiments only take a few minutes, other will take considerably more time to accomplish, so some days you may complete multiple experiments, some days you will only get part way through the experiment you are working on...a good variety of chalenges that will keep most young researchers interested and, with this kit, i have found that my 10 year old is apt to start becoming creative with where he could go next with what he discovers...quite an impressive kit!! The only negative i would include about this item is that you DO have to purchase batteries for some of the experiments, as well as provide basic items such as sugar and salt and such...while this is not a big deal, the lack of these items can effectively disable the day's experiment, so be warned!!!

One other minor detraction...the tools and supplies appear to be rather "play-like" in quality, but, in their defence, so far, everything has performed as well as, or better than, expected.

I purchased this item on sale, and as a homeschooling mom i have found this to be a positive addition to our school schedule...however, homeschooling aside, this kit will certainly delight any young inquisitive child...and the instructions are well written, and the text has a number of cute cartoons that reinforce the learning, as well as plenty of clear illustrations throughout...Overall, a good buy at full price, an excellent investment if you find it on sale!!

We purchased this kit for our 8 year old daughter for Christmas. I was a little concerned that it might be above her head since the kit is recommended for ages ten and up. Our daughter is a very strong reader so we hoped for the best.

She is enthralled with this kit. She spent all afternoon with it the first time she used it. Most importantly, she learned from every experiment that she did, and was successful with every one that she tried. She could hardly wait to show her younger sisters. She just skimmed through the manual and would stop at one that caught her interest. Some are simple effects, but with pretty impressive results, especially for a kid. Although many of the experiments seem simple, the underlying science, which is described in the manual, is usually important. Each experiment has a point to make and they seem to do it well. As a parent, you may want to consider paying close attention to the point of the experiment to see if your child grasps it. For example, one that she tried involved charging a balloon by rubbing it in her hair. No big deal, who needs a science kit for that? Well, they had her sprinkle salt and pepper and mix them. When she brought the charged balloon near the mixture, the pepper all leapt to the balloon, leaving only salt behind. It was a pretty effective demo. She did not remain silent when it happened. Then you can imagine her further reaction when she noticed some of the pepper flakes leaping back off the balloon like fleas into the salt, only to leap back to the balloon again. The point is that she was seeing evidence of the internal structure of salt vs. pepper (salt is an ionic crystal and pepper is not and can be easily polarized). She was learning and having fun at the same time. Now my youngest daughters are rubbing balloons in their hair and watching them repel each other (the balloons, not the kids...)

She does need a small amount of guidance in opening vials, using the provided measuring spoon, and with a pretty complicated sticker of Earth's surface that is supposed to go on a styrofoam ball. Even a ten year old will need a small amount of help with some of the items, but not much. Should be a piece of cake for a typical 12 year old. There are some experiments in the kit (such as making the electric motor) that actually fascinate college students.

The components of the kit are simple, but not hokey. I am a scientist myself and can vouch for the experiments that I have seen thus far, and that I saw in the large experiment manual.

This is a good set. It is quite well thought out and organized. It is very safe. For some experiments, be prepared to provide household items such as a strand of thread, salt and pepper, a comb, a few cabbage leaves to make your own pH indicator, two batteries, etc. Does not make a mess that a vacuum can't clean up.

The magnets provided work for the experiments, but it would have been nice if the kit came with stronger ones, especially the ring magnet.

NOTE: Our kit was sent with the 1st edition manual for the 2nd edition kit. The 2nd edition recommends standard 1.5 volt batteries. If your manual recommends a different voltage, read the bulbs to make sure they match the battery recommendation.

Thames & Kosmos provides a phone number and they answer it and are very helpful.

I purchased this for my 9 year old daughter, who has not shown very much interest in science at school. There are 100 experiments in various fields, and they are a lot of fun. She has learned a lot, and seems to really enjoy the experiments with magnets and electricity.

Like most other science kits of this type, you will need common household items to complete some of the experiments. The only thing I have had to purchase separately was the 4.5v flat battery, which I had never heard of before. I found one on Amazon, and we were up and running!

My kids had a blast with this kit, but everything is really small and the wires are a little flimsy. The solar panel is smaller than expected and doesn't really produce much energy from indoor incandescent lights like many other solar panel kits do. Outside in the bright sun it worked like a champ.

My husband bought these for our 5 month old baby. The biggest design flaw is that it has pointy tops. The age range says 0 months My baby was practicing sitting upright but occasionally falls forward. She narrowly missed this toy when it was pointing up thank goodness or else it could've damaged her eye! I think once your baby is sitting up completely unassisted and does not fall forward maybe around 8 months then it would be safe but any earlier and it is not.

Asthetically it is a cute toy and an artistic alternative to regular nesting toys. Not quite sure why it is labeled a bath toy.

I bought these for my son when he was six months old. He loved to push them around and put things in them. He loved it when I stacked them. He is now ten months old and can stack and play with them more independently. These are GREAT for travel...they take up very little space and are perfect toys for hotel rooms. We travel a lot and I always bring these stacking cups with us because they can be used for so many different purposes!

Best Deals for Kid O Stack and Nest Cups

This is a really durable set of stacking and nesting cups. It is made of a nice hard plastic and the colors are very vibrant. My baby LOVES these cups. They will get her attention whenever we put them in front of her. She likes to mouth them and bang them together. She also likes to knock over the "tower" if we stack them for her. She has had them since she was 3 months old and now she is 8 months and still loves them. I don't see her interest in these blocks waning. HOWEVER, her daddy hates these blocks because they look slightly dangerous. The corners of the cups are tapered and end in a point. I understand that it is a design statement and makes the "tower" more interesting. Also, it allows a baby to stick the bit of the corner in their mouth... however, my husband is really paranoid that our baby will lose coordination and slam her eye into a corner. Babys aren't very coordinated and it might happen.... I think it's pretty unlikely and I like this set of cups... we have another set of stacking/nesting boxes from Melissa and Doug made of Thick cardboard... those are good too.

Honest reviews on Kid O Stack and Nest Cups

My two year old really enjoys this toy. While she never stacks the cups (which is hard to do in the tub because they float), she enjoys using them to pour water on her herself. My only complaint is that I have to wash them reguarly as they get mildew.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Kid O Stack and Nest Cups

These have been interesting to my kid since he was around 1 year old. They are bright fun colors, and I love that they stack together as well as into a tower. That's a mind bender for a toddler. The tops of the cups have grooves that the little corner feet can slip into, which makes it easier for small people to get them in the right spot. Great for building dexterity and spacial concepts.

We use them out with other toys, as well as in the bath to pour liquids, or to fill with objects, or for pouring with texture play.

This has been a big hit with my 6yo, especially the Fireflies Aglow game. She likes catching the light beams, then tossing them at the lightning bugs to make them light up and be happy again. She has to light them from top to bottom, or left to right. It utilizes her fine motor skills and I'm sure will help develop her writing.

There is also Flower Blooms which is a memory and pattern game, and Skate on Water that is tracing shapes. The creative games are making a fairy house, fairy sounds and photo fun if you have the Innotab 2 or 2S. She can take a pic with a leaf on her head or other fun things. Then, of course, there is the story which my daughter likes, too.

I like that there are two settings for the games, so when she masters the easy level, the fun isn't over. It is recommended for ages 5-7, but my almost 4yo can try out the easy levels of the games and not get too frustrated. This is definitely the favorite of the 3 we purchased, VTech InnoTab Software Disney Princesses and VTech InnoTab Software Hello Kitty, too. I'm really glad we made this purchase, and would definitely buy it again.

I picked this little drum up for my grandson and he really loves it. He has a little plastic baseball bat that he bangs on it with and since he's at the age of noise and bangs he has a great time. He enjoys the music and also he likes to listen to the voice talk to him.. It's very durable, he likes to stand on it in the playpen to get a better view. I also like the idea that I can lower the sound and the lights are also intriguing. I'd recommend it highly as I feel he will probably even enjoy it when he gets a little older so he can learn to follow the pattern of beats.

I love the automatic shut off featurehe is now 17 months, still plays with it & I have yet to have to change the batteriesunlike other toys that don't have this feature. I like that it will grow with him, unlike so many toys out there. Right now I put it on the music setting and he likes hitting it and hearing the music. He's discovered that it even works by hitting the sides and bottom of the drum! And another nice feature is that it turns itself off after a minute or so if my son crawls away to play with something else.

Despite the term budget applied to this product it is sturdy and well built. Its stand holds it up sturdily and slides quite easily around a room. All the carpals are articulated with the exception of the pisiform, as is true with the tarsals. Other aspects like the turbinates are also included. Not overly detailed, but certainly great for visualizing skeletal anatomy when a book doesn't do the job. I would say it is a great buy if you're studying anatomy and its quality is better than what you might think for an item of its price.

The skeleton worked well for my studies. The features are not as clean and pure as they are on the more expensive skeletons, but they were good enough. Only problem I had was that the hands were assembled on the wrong arms. But I figured out how to detach them and fix it.

Best Deals for Budget Bucky Skeleton With Stand -5 1/2 Feet Tall

Poor Bucky . . . he did not meet my expectations based on other reviews. I knew he was a "budget" skeleton, but there were so many issues with him he had to go back. He did not come with directions for assembling. The stand with four wheels is not suitable for stability in a classroom of young children. A fellow teacher has a model with five wheels and it is MUCH more stable. The stand that the wheels were attached to already had rust on it.

A thin metal rod was missing at the end of one humerus so the lower leg could not be attached. The rod could not be attached even if one had been sent it was something that had to be inserted during the manufacturing process. Finally, there were a number of sharp places sticking out on the bones that should have been filed smooth. I actually cut open my finger on a sharp spot in the middle of the sternum. Maybe I just got a "lemon", but there were too many things wrong for me, even at that price.

The one feature that I would like is for the bones themselves to be marked so that a student can easily determine the bone without having to go to a diagram.

I will admit I felt a little silly spending more than $10 on a keyboard that does not have multimedia keys or any special features. However, knowing how to type properly is priceless, so anything that helps teach the concepts to a child could be worth the money. I worried a bit that the color coded keys could be a crutch, but seeing it in action, I think they are well worth it as I will explain.

First, the keyboard has a nice, sturdy construction, quite suited for teaching typing. I like that it does not have the typical "pop-out" legs that most keyboards have. I already have 2 keyboards where the legs required to tilt the keyboard have broken off, likely due to my kids moving it around too much and catching them on the end of the keyboard tray. Since the keyboard is intended for kids, I appreciate this thought towards durability.

The keys have a nice click---not too hard, but also not so soft that it makes typing tough. I would not teach a child on my Logitech Illuminated Ultra-Thin keyboard---the keys are too easy to press and they could break it too easily. Thus, for durability, the chester-creek is great. It also lack the superfluous media keys that could confuse a young kid.

Equally important, the Chester Creek keyboard is a full keyboard with normal adult layout. Be careful when buying kids keyboards, even from Chester Creek. Some kids keyboards are laid out with one key directly above another, in a perfect rectangular layout (not staggered like a real keyboard). Some lack the F1-F12 keys needed to do many future Windows Tasks. Another color coded keyboard just colors the consonants and vowels differently, but the colors do not help in teaching to type.

The Chester Creek LessonBoard does a nice job of coloring the keys so it is easy to see where the fingers must go. The "F" and "J" keys have a nice bump on them for learning to feel the home keys, and the separate colors enable a child to see what finger is supposed to go on what key, especially when they start having to leave the home row for other letters. As I watch my child learn to type (we use Typical Instructor for Kids), I see that the color codes help in keeping the fingers on the proper keys. The goal is to teach touch typing, and I do not believe that this keyboard will be a crutch. My kid should be fine on other keyboards---if anything, the color coding prevents the learning of bad habits which is all too easy.

Even better, the attractive colors make it more exciting for the kid, without making it cutesy or unrealistic. A kid who learns with this keyboard can use any keyboard. On a technical note, it is a USB keyboard, but comes with a PS/2 adapter for older computers.

Overall, this is the best learning keyboard I have found, and I highly recommend it for the new typer.

i love the idea of this keyboard for helping my children learn to type. However, it seems my keyboard is defective. The shift key does not always work to make uppercase letters or any symbols that require the shift key. Sometimes it works as if it is the CTRL key and pops up boxes I don't want. The p key is much more stiff than the rest, making me think I'm not depressing it all the way, so it's taken me a while to get used to that. Arrow keys don't work at all, not even the arrows on the number pad when Num Lock is off.

On a positive note, the letters are large and easy for a kid to read. The color coding is great. Wonderful idea for teaching typing. I hope I can get a replacement keyboard that works right.

Best Deals for School Specialty Chester Creek Keyboard LessonBoard

I purchased this keyboard for my children's home school PC. I am pleased with the feel of the keys and the bright colors. The keyboard seems like any other keyboard in regard to sturdiness and quality. My one dislike is that the keyboard is flat and without tilting feet underneath. I am not sure if the lack of the tilt feature is intentional or an oversight by the designers. However, it really distracts me and is uncomfortable since I am used to a keyboard that tilts. Overall I am pleased with my purchase and my children don't seem to notice it's flat.

Honest reviews on School Specialty Chester Creek Keyboard LessonBoard

I purchased this keyboard to use with my students in the computer lab. The keyboard is sturdy, the keys have a nice feel when typing. If the price wasn't so high, I'd purchase a set for the entire lab. My students say that the color-coded keys help them to use the correct fingers when typing.

A Fantastic toy. My one year old loves it. She happily pushes the walker while the music sings. Then stops, sits down and put the balls ans shapes in the proper slots. She spends alot of time playing with this toy. Definitely recommended.

Word of caution: if you have hardwood floors, this toy WILL SLIDE SIDEWARDS. It lacks rubberized wheels. This will not necessarily cause the kid to fall, but you may want to keep an eye. May also be an advantage if the kid can figure out how to move it.

Also makes a sound when the wheels spin with no apparent meaning.

Finally the toys at the front do not seem to be entertaining, at least for my 1yr old.

My little girl and I really liked this toy. She really liked pushing it around and using the shape-sorter part (well, kind of. she put everything in the large hole in the top). Unfortunately, the walker stopped playing music when she pushes it. We can't figure out what happened to make the music stop, but it did. Now when she pushes it, it just makes a dull clicking noise. It still serves its purpose, but I'm disappointed in how quickly the music stopped working. We've only had the thing for 3 months.

Adults and kids will enjoy this fast-paced electronic category game. As the clock ticks down, players compete to come up with words that start with specified letters in 170+ different categories, such as: "Name something found at a picnic, letter A" or "Name a snack, letter P," and so on. This sounds easy, but it's amazing how tongue-tied you can get when the pressure is on. There is relief in sight, however. You can press a button to change the category or the letter, and try again, but it costs you in time and players each only have a total of 60 seconds in their bank. We've played this game with as many as 8 adults, and the competition was high. It was also great with adult/child teams. Have fun!

Best Deals for Freeze Up

Freeze Up is a truly imaginative, very versatile and endlessly fascinating team game that works with older children and adults alike. My wife and I have played it in the corner of restaurants, at the beach, and even in the car. The recorded voices and funny sound gimmicks add unique and humorous touches, especially when playing as two or even four person arrangements. The game is compact, never boring, and tests our imagination and strategic thinking all at once. Reasonably priced and makes for a very nice gift, whether for holidays, birthdays, or thank you gifts. Go buy it and have a ball.

Honest reviews on Freeze Up

BUYER BEWARE...before you stick the money into it, maybe look at another option. I look at how the price has fluctuated on this item and it kinda makes me sick. When it arrived, boy I questioned whether or not it was used and repackaged. It looked ify, and then my daughter opened it tonight and it looks like it was used. Everytime you pass the game to the next player it sounds like BB's are rattling around in it (VERY annoying). The sound quality is pretty good, and it does require you to do some quick thinking which is good brain exercise. My son beat me at it twice, but I would have liked to have a much better quality product than a 2nd hand game for what I paid--almost $35. I was sold on this game because of the good reviews, but I am being honest here, so if you are considering it, perhaps put the money towards a new Wii game or something of that nature. Not happy and feel like I've flushed the money down the drain. If it were to be priced logically, it should go for about $14.99.
