This is a winner! Its mostly taken the place of the real remotes in the house which is great! I find it comical that some of the other parent review have said this toy is "not educational" or not much for "brain development". People toddlers learn by playing. That is how their little brain develop. A toy remote is not a set of flashcards, but thankfully toddlers don't require flashcards to learn and develop their brains.

After searching for some time for a play remote for our daughter, we found this at a local Walmart store. It's EXACTLY what I had been looking for!

Looks close enough to the real thing that your baby shouldn't be too disappointed when you swap your real remote with this one.

My daughter loves how the blue eyelids close.

All the buttons makes SEVERAL sounds the volume buttons on it actually do turn it up and turn it down in volume!

Her favorite button to push is the number 6 because it plays cute music.

Teaches numbers.

I always bring this with when we travel in the car or shopping at the mall. Small enough to fit in your purse, but big enough to occupy their time for a while!

VERY durable I can't count the number of times it's been thrown around and dropped and it works perfectly!

I just love it! The batteries seem to last forever in it too which is a huge plus!

Buy it, you'll love it! We've had ours for well over a year now, it's in perfect shape, and our 19 month old still loves it.

We bought this for our daughter when she was 9 months, and she still loves it at 15 months. Our family loves the humor built into all the Sesame Street programs and toys, and this remote is no different. The volume key actually works to incrementally turn up or down the volume of the toy and the big Monster eyes are a hit with the little one, they make a cute "power on / power off" noise when you hit the button on the side. She always liked to open and shut the eyes with her finger and I think this helped refine her control of her index finger.

The best part of the remote is that it has saved us from numerous tantrums as it is very easy to throw in the diaper bag.

Honest reviews on Fisher-Price Sesame Street Silly Sounds Remote

This toy caught my eye because it looks almost exactly like my actual TV remote. Same color, shape, even the buttons are similarly placed. My son has an obsession with our TV remote, and whenever he gets his little hands on it, it takes me forever to undo whatever it is he's done to the TV settings!

As soon as I received this, I didn't give it to him right off. I placed it on the arm of our couch (where I tend to place our actual remote) and let him find it on his own. When he spotted it, he made a mad dash for it, and was just thrilled to pieces! He kept looking at me sideways, wondering when I was gonna take it away, and sat quietly on the couch with it for some time!

I absolutely recommend this little toy! I never put it with all his other toys, I always keep it in the living room where the real remote is so he can feel like he's playing with the actual thing...this was definitely a smart purchase!

If your child is like my twin granddaughters and put everything in their mouths, beware that they can scrap the paint and paper off with their teeth. We had to take it away from them. The blue is painted on and the writing is paper.

Where is Howie's Owie
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

Where is Howie's Owie? is a fun activity that will target expressive and receptive language targets.

The item comes with a two sided easel stand. One side is magnetic and has Howie on the beach, the other side has lines drawn for labeling Howie! The easel comes with colorful magnetic bandages, enough to give Howie 20 Owies!

There are many learning targets that Howie lends himself to in the speech room. My preschool student and I worked on vocabulary and following 1 and 2 step directions with temporal and conditional directions. I even snuck in some concepts such as 'top, middle, bottom, under, next to, between, corner.' We developed simple sentences for /k/ carryover and said 'Doctor fix ___' for each band aid we added to poor Howie! We answered WH questions while we added band aids too ( ie: "Where is the purple band aid?") Lastly we targeted some basic inferencing skills. The second time we applied Howie's band aids, I gave clues and scenarios and the child had to decide where the band aid should go. For example, 'Howie tried to catch a a bumble bee in his hands! Ouch! Where is Howie's Owie?'

During a literacy group we used Howie at circle time to work on Phonological Awareness skills. Each student added a band aid to a body part. Then they name that body part, a word that rhymed with it, the initial and final sound in their body part, and how many syllables that word contained.

I can't wait to use Howie in our Health and 5 Senses week next year during preschool!

My nephew is 6 and loves the weather. His favorite "job" in kindergarten is to be the meteorologist for the week. They track how many days are rainy, sunny, etc. For his birthday, we gave him this gift, and it was his favorite birthday gift. Now he can do be the meteorologist at home too! They might get it laminated so that it will last longer.

Our kids got this as a gift and we figured it would be educational but we didn't realize how much they would enjoy it. It is interactive enough that it holds their attention and they have learned a whole lot from playing with it. It is easy for them to operate on their own, and we love that it has different volume settings (and even a headphone jack!). It is very 'hands on' in that they touch a country/region, see where it is in the world, and then get to learn about it. And of course they love the fact that they can teach us what they learned. Oh, and it shuts itself off after a period of inactivity, so no worrying about someone leaving the toy on and running the batteries down. When other families have come over and seen the globe, most agree that it's one of the best ones they've seen. I definitely give this globe a thumbs up!!!

Toy is sturdy and holds fascination for long periods of time. Feel it is best to have adult supervision initially for best learning. Provides entertainment even without supervision. Requires 7 AA batteries but does not drain them quickly.

Best Fascinations AntWorks Colors of Life Deals

Fascinations AntWorks Colors of Life
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

This ant farm has proved to have a learning curve, but overall it has been a great experience and my kids love this ant farm!

The good:

1. Seeing the ants make and use the tunnels, and seeing how ant colonies work is really neat.

2. The lights provide a wonderful, colorful nightlight. I am not sure if the ants really appreciate them, but they are aesthetically pleasing for humans to look at. There isn't much instruction on how to change between the 2 modes (keeping it on one color or letting the colors rotate) in the instructions but it was easy to figure out by myself.

3. The construction seems to be pretty durable. It has been dropped at least once onto a tile floor and it survived without any cracks. We also have not had any problems with the light and it has been on for weeks.

The learning curve:

1. I tried collecting my own ants, but they were too small and they would escape out of the air vents before I could get more than five of them into the habitat. I resorted to ordering them and the escape problem was solved. The ants I received were a lot larger and kind of neat to look at. You can distinctly see all the little parts, which is a great teaching aid.

2. The gel is a foreign substance to the ants and they don't realize that they are supposed to dig into and eat the gel. You are supposed to encourage digging by priming the gel (putting a few holes into the gel before you put the ants in). I did so, but after the ants were in the habitat and were not tunneling, I realized the holes were probably too small. I attempted to make them bigger, but the ants went into attack mode and the top quickly went back on. It took 3-4 days before the ants realized that they were supposed to dig into the stuff. In the mean time, about half of the colony died.

The bad:

The gel can only be used twice. I am hoping that the next colony will utilize the pre made tunnels and realize what they are supposed to do a bit quicker before half the colony dies. I also hope that I can find a refill of the clear gel. I have found where to get the blue gel but I am not sure how the lights will look with the blue gel.

I bought this for my 5 year old son! Best gift ever! He loves it. I ordered one for my niece and nephew and my sister ordered one for some friends of hers! These are awesome and durable! Highly recommended!

Best Deals for Fascinations AntWorks Colors of Life

I bought this for my 10 year old and my 4 year old has dropped it twice so far on day two of having the ants in it! The ants lived and the top didn't even pop off!!!! It's awesome. Some of the colors are almost too bright to look at, but you have the option to keep it on one color if you want. I had to pay $14 for ants because of winter, but they are only 6 in the summer. I know that sounds like a lot, but it is worth it! It is so cool to see the ants digging in the gel:)

Honest reviews on Fascinations AntWorks Colors of Life

I bought this for my daughter's 9th birthday after she had said she wanted an ant farm. She was thrilled with the lights and had it plugged in for the entire week that we waited for out ants to arrive. The lights are very cool they either cycle rainbow colors or you can stop it on your favorite color, all with an optical sensor that you only have to wave your finger in front of! If you leave your ant farm in a sunny place (which you aren't supposed to because I think the ants don't like full sun) the sunlight is enough to trigger the sensor.

So after less than a week of anxiously waiting our ants arrived. We ordered the harvester ants, which are recommended because they are good tunnelers and they have giant mandibles that are much easier to see. I placed my order from Life Studies. It was $5 and they arrived pretty quickly. I was seriously scared of those ants because they looked like they could inflict some serious pain. Within one hour of having them in the habitat, they had started to dig up and move some gel. Within 3 hours we could see a good start on their first tunnel. The instructions say to poke some holes in the gel and they even give you a special tool for it so that the ants can start tunneling there. Oddly enough, our ants chose their own spot and ignored our poke holes completely.

For the entire first week we would check on the habitat every couple hours. Our house was filled with someone shouting "Hey you guys come look at the ants now!" I also bought The Life and Times of the Ant which proved to be a wonderful reference, and actually explained why the ants did some of the things that we would have otherwise thought weird.

We did experience the light not working, but after an email to the company the problem was resolved within a day. Great customer service!

The only thing that I can complain about is the size of the habitat. It seemed like our ants dug most around the sides and bottom. They spent a lot of time at the bottom, like maybe they wanted to be able to dig deeper. I felt a little sorry for them. They also tried to tunnel upwards and were able to chew off the corners of the rubber seal. I do not feel like they would be able to get out of the habitat without the seal though.

Most of the ants lived for about a month and a half (there is still one ant alive after 2 months), but most of the excitement happened in the first couple weeks. I absolutely plan to order ants again soon, and I'll probably order a gel refill kit at some point too. Our entire family, from parents to 2 year old, loved seeing the progress and I think we all learned a little something too!

I figured that if an educational toy is good enough for a child, than it's good enough for me. My wife thought differently. She wasn't too upset with my purchase until the ants arrived, than she very nicely asked me to give it away. Well, for the 2 weeks that I owned this, I was totally fascinated by the activity of the ants. They really are a remarkable insect and watching them dig tunnels as a group is simply amazing. The final straw came when I placed the ant farm in the kitchen. My granddaughter now owns it and is fascinated with it as I was. My wife is very relieved that it is no longer around.

Learning Resources Backyard Bugs Counters, Jar of 144

My daughter organized all the bugs by categories of which type of bug they were. Then she organized them by color. And then made patterns... blue red blue red etc. Now we use them as counters. She makes the bugs have conversations with each other. My husband sat down with her and made the spiders go to war against all the bugs. Men... sheesh. :0) Anyway, these are good quality durable but pliable material (rubber?) and are great fun for learning. There is the same number of each category; the manufacturers didn't just toss in a handful of bugs, so having the same number of each is nice for grouping multiplication facts.

The pack contains 6 shapes each of them 6 colours. This means that for each element as for example a spider you will find:

4 x yellow spiders

4 x green spiders

4 x purple spiders

4 x orange spiders

4 x blue spiders

4 x red spiders

In total each element is contained 24 times in 6 different colours.

These color bug counters are a great manipulative for prekinders. Children are always so fascinated by bugs and it is an easy step to move them into "math thinking" once they are engaged in play.

I do wish some of the bugs were a bit more distinguishable to make it easier for my youngest learners.

My four-year-old enjoys this toy. We have the original Art Safari pack as well and the On The Go pack definitely gets more use. His favorite game is the memory/matching game. He also enjoys stamping and tic-tac-toe. The packaging mine came in showed mazes as one of the games but there are no mazes in this pack. I recommend this for airplane trips, long car rides and visits to non-child friendly homes, especially for the younger set ages 3-7.

My 5 year old daughter has all the Pixter cartridges. This one is her favorite. We have one of the original versions that does have the mazes on it (the new version out does not have the mazes). For those of you who are upset that the new version does not have the mazes... don't be. That is the only part of the cartridge we don't use because that one game does not work well at all which is why they deleted it from the new ones. Even without the mazes, this is still my daughters favorite cartridge. Pixter is great for kids not quite ready for a "game boy".

Best Deals for Pixter On-The-Go Games Software Cartridge, Black & White

My 4 year old boy needed something to improve his fine motor skills. We have tried EVERYTHING! This software (and the others as well) not only improves fine motor skills but encourages them to use creativy, problem solving and have fun! With so many electronic toys out there, it's difficult to find one that is non violent, inexpensive and educational but this is one that parents and children will agree on and in fact, I can only think of one problem with this game....he can't get it away from me :)

Honest reviews on Pixter On-The-Go Games Software Cartridge, Black & White

I bought this game for an up coming trip. It was really fun. I have the color pixter. One of the draw backs, not for this game in particular, it was a little hard to get it started. Some of the time when I wanted to put a black and white cartrige in, I had to hold it in along with the adapter, and half of the time, it didn't work. It went up to the color pixters' main page. But other than that, it was a really fun game. I love playing the tick-tack-toe game with my sister. You should get some more cartriges, I have 13 and the camera, and most of them are color ones. But this one is one of my favorite black and white ones.

I bought this for my two year old and we've used it for several skills. Obviously, he does the stringing, but we've also strung it by color of cars, type of cars, and size. He loves to pretend with it around his train track. I've also seen him lining them up by size, color, and function (delivery truck, cars, etc) We continue to get lots of mileage from this toy. However, I should say my son has a passion for vehicles so this was a definite winner in our house. He wouldn't have any interest in doing such things with a regular beading set.

Best Deals for ALEX® Toys - Early Learning String & Beep 1486B

My son (who got this for his 2nd birthday) seems only interested in cars and trucks, so it's been tough to find toys that will help in his development aside from cars and trucks -but this one has been a hit. He's definitely enjoyed learning the names of all the different vehicles and has also quickly learned how to string them on there. Great for development of some different fine motor skills.

Honest reviews on ALEX® Toys - Early Learning String & Beep 1486B

With J loving cars and anything that "vrooms" I knew these would be a huge hit with sneaky educational value. Upon opening the package...Whoa, smelly..in a I'm quickly made, painted, sprayed, and packaged in China sort of way. I put them up for a bit to let them "off-gas" before we played with them again. He really just drug them all over the wood floors and shrieked with joy as they snaked back and forth. The finish on the vehicles is scratched to high heaven now, which of course, he could care less, but it bothers me. Great idea, cheaply made. Wouldn't recommend. Spring for the Plan Toys lacing beads. Unfortunately, these are curbside as we speak :(

Yes, this toy is everything all the good reviews say. Not at my house, though. This is rated as a 3 year old toy, probably for the small parts warning. I demonstrated this toy once for my 20 month old grandson. He strung the vehicles maybe six times and never looked at the toy again.

I was hoping the skill would challenge him, but guess again, Nana.
