Good, but not perfect. Some of the mineral specimens have been tumbled and polished, which makes them pretty, but removes the diagnostic criteria (cleavage, crystal shapes) that are a basis for identifying minerals. Quartz appears more than once in the collection. Partitions in the plastic box that the collection comes in are thin, and in both of the boxes I bought a heavy specimen had broken a partition in transit, damaging the more fragile specimen in the adjacent cubicle. The accompanying booklet is good, but it shows some minerals that are not in the collection. The small magnifying glass is a good touch.

My son has really enjoyed this product and I like that it comes with a pamphlet that describes the different kinds of rocks. The container that the rocks came in has a few cracks on the bottom, however it is still very much usable.

I've used the standard rectangular flash cards and never liked them--all those cards to mess with, and they always seem so disorganized (maybe it's just me!). I am delighted to report that these cards are fantastic--easy to use, easy to store, fun for my kids, and ORGANIZED! By that, I mean that (for example) the +2 card has all the -2 facts on the back, and the answers to the front are clearly visible on the back. The round dial works smoothly and is durable with proper adult supervision, making these by far my flash cards of choice! I also bought the multiplication/division set and have been equally pleased with those. Thanks, Trend, for thinking outside the "box" and offering a more "rounded" approach to flash cards!

The idea of math practice with the wheel is good. The portability is good because you can take a few wheels with you in case there is something specific to practice. As far as durabilty it is thin cardboard so it all depends on how much care you take. I think the price is expensive for what it is. I paid almost thirteen dollars and yes even though it is a wheel it still serves more or less the same as flashcards which are 1/4 the price. I wouldn't recommend this product simply for the price factor. For that price you can buy some cubes and rods and teach hands on math.

This is a really great product, and my infant son loves it. He is not yet crawling, so loves the fact that he can make the music and the lights play without anything more complicated than a "bomp". Only thing is that the base is not quite heavy enough or round enough to always maintain upright position as a roly poly should, however can still be activated while not quite upright and my son still played with it. Very worthwhile toy and keeps little one happily playing.

First of all, I didn't buy these for a child, but for an adult friend of mine who makes Jamaican-style music (Reggae and Dub). While these are labeled as a "toy" or for children, they can also be utilized for just about anything music related.

The paint is durable, and the diameter is thin enough to accommodate a myriad of hand sizes. The sound is what you would expect from a Rhythm Stick, and to be honest, why would you pay the up-mark for music-specific branded ones?

Overall, a solid buy for all ages.

I bought these for my 3 year old niece as my sister said she was going through a phase where she was making music instruments out of everything (think banging on pots and pans). I looked at many instruments available on Amazon and thought this would be perfect. She can bang on things with them, bang on each other and rub them against each other. As soon as she got them, she loved them and used in the manners described above. An added bonus, my sister said it drives her nuts with all the noise my niece makes. Now, when kids get confused about when historical events occurred or the order in which they happened, I can just point to this timeline and set them straight. It doesn't include everything that I'd like it to (no Pre-European Events and a fairly monocultural view of U.S. History), but for a basic visual it does the trick. I like that it begins with "Columbus arrives..." instead of "Columbus discovers..."

My son became obsessed with the guitar after watching daddy play guitar hero. He's only 2 1/2 but he loves this toy and can not put it down. I like the fact that it doesn't have strings which makes it very easy for him to strum and to push on the frets. The band mode is my son's favorite because it plays music and lets him play along. The only thing it doesn't have that my son has asked for is a whammy bar attachment.

It's also a nice touch that the volume on it goes to 11. Speaking of volume I'd like to buy the amp that comes with it but my wife won't let me. My son and I are both very happy with this toy.

Purchased for my 11 year old son. He could not put it down once opened.

You can play in different modes. My son would start with with learning mode. The guitar came preloaded with 12 songs that can be choosen by touching the flashing frett button. He would learn the cords and then practice on jam mode and once he had it down he would go to band mode and play it with the backround music. He just loves it!! I also tried playing and found it to be quite fun myself. Great for just playing around or actually learning the songs that are preloaded on the guitar.

I would definately recommend this to any parent who has a "rock star" wish list.

I bought the Hasbro Power Guitar for my 12 year old son this year for Christmas, but we have all ended up having a lot of fun with it (and we range in age from 5 to 39!). There are several things you can do with this guitar and we haven't even tried them all yet. Right now we have it on 'learning' mode. It will play the first few opening notes to a song and you have to copy it. If you mess up, it 'boos' and then plays the same notes again only slower. It keeps playing the same notes until you finally get them right, then it cheers for you and moves on to the next part of the song. There is even an instructional DVD that is included and it really helps you with getting started by showing all the various features step-by-step. I am very happy with this purchase!

Let me first start by saying that I paid $20 for this guitar right before Christmas--with free shipping no less! That being said, the toy is worth 20 bucks. If I would have paid full price I would have been very disappointed.

My kids got this and "I Can Play Guitar" for Christmas. Power Tour is nice because it comes with a guitar strap, you can plug in your MP3 (nice feature--ICPG doesn't have that), and you don't have to be plugged in to a TV to play it. It also comes with an instructional DVD, but my kids never cared enough to watch it.

I am somewhat disappointed in its ability to play MP3s. The volume just isn't there. I'm sure there is some great reason for this, but it touts "jam along with your favorite songs." When my son started jamming along, the volume of the guitar so greatly overpowered the volume of the MP3 that it was difficult to hear and follow. Also, the specific frets light up for the programmed songs, but for your own MP3s it only plays some cool light show that would be impossible to follow along to.

The strap is a great feature. ICPG does not have that. When purchasing this toy think more along the line of electronic response games, like Bop-It or Simon Says, rather than something that will actually help you learn to play guitar (which, incidentally, I don't think ICPG does either). If you do that and you are able to get a good deal on it, you should be pleased.

I bought this for my little sister this X-mas (she made a not so subtle hint about how cool she thought it was) and I assumed that like most toy instruments it would be fun for about 5 minutes. Once she tore it open on the big day we messed around with it and I really have to say that it was the hit of the year, toy wise. The guitar sounds are rockin', you can strum or play single notes and you can palm mute. Iron Maiden watch out! The only gripes I have are that the guitar can start freaking out if you strum too fast and the "learn a song" function is really frustrating... not easy for a kid (or adult) to follow along with. That said, it was so cool I bought one for myself as well.

This was an odd one; after reading the excellent reviews on this toy, I ordered without any hesitation. Now I am puzzled how come this toy could have received such glowing reviews?

Sponsored comments or just very unlucky on my end?

There were two major issues with this delivery; for one the description clearly stated that the toy comes with batteries (2AA batteries included). This was wrong on two levels: a) there were no batteries included with the shipment and b) this toy requires 3 AA and 1 9V battery. So whoever wrote the product description must have had a rough night before because he/she/it clearly missed the mark the next day.

So, before anything could be done, a trip to the store was in order to get the tractor on the road.

When it finally ran, it wasn't off to a good start. While it runs straight like a charm, the turn around function doesn't work at all. We had a similar toy before so we knew what to expect. But not turning the tractor around remotely defeats the whole idea of a RC tool.

To be fair, my little one doesn't really know the difference, so when it got stuck and couldn't turn, he ran and grabbed it. Which is however not the point.

In addition, when unused, the toy enters some stage of convulsions. Every so often, without any external impact, one of its wheels moves a bit. If I wouldn't know better, I'd say it is possessed. Or gravely ill and convulsing a couple of times more before entering the eternal playground.

When I finally called Amazon to talk about the toy, I was just stunned at the level of customer service. First, the whole battery issue was simply brushed aside. "We are sorry" is not really cutting it.

And it went down the hill from there. But that is a different story.

I would really like to give this toy 5 starts. I like the way it looks, I like the way it feels. It is perfect for a little guy/girl to run after giggling.

Maybe it was a Monday-toy. Not sure if I should buy another one ...

This toy is perfect for my two year old! He is obsessed with tractors and remotes so this is a perfect combination! It is a very simple controller so he can work it all by himself but it is also fun for me to "drive" it and he likes to chase it around the house. The tractor itself is covered with a very soft plastic so I don't have to worry if it is going to run into my walls or furniture. The only weird thing is if it is turned on but not being driven, it has little spurts where it moves about an inch or two by itself. It does not happen when it's turned off. It took me a bit to figure out what the noise was in the toy box! Overall a great buy!!

My 9 year old loved this the minute it arrived. She insisted on putting the decals up herself. They easily peel and stick multiply times not like some decals that one wrong move and it's all twisted up around itself. After lots of moving and rearranging she finally got them where she wanted them.

I helped her put the activator up and she uses it nightly. There are 3 settings but she loves the 2nd one that has ocean noise and lights. This is the perfect all in one for a night light and white noise machine and you get the added benefit of the fish.

This is a really cool add to my tween's room, but I had to read the instructions to really "get" it.

The first aspect of the kit is the easiest to explain. The dolphins and other animals themselves are decals you stick on the wall. I do not know why I thought at first it would be a light that showed the animals, but it is actually better with just the decals. This means that the "toy" can be interactive even without the light. I strongly suggest putting the light where you would like it, and then making sure the light illuminates all of the animals. Our light was hung quite low because my daughter has a futon and she wanted to be able to turn it on during bed. You do not NEED to illuminate all of the animals for it to look really cool, but I felt it looked better if it lit up all of the animals. The decals themselves were good quality, and went up really easily.

The other aspect of the kit is the light and sound activator. It does not NEED to be hung on the wall, so if you just want to put the decals up, and use the light and sound activator as something they keep in the bed, you can. We hung it at futon level so my daughter could turn it off an on when in bed. You can also remove it easily, if you child wants to do so. We liked the level we hung it at, and it made for a good light show. The light spread out nicely and was bright enough for a soft nightlight.

There are 4 settings to the sound/light activator. The first, to me, is a little scary for a younger child. I do not know that my tween ever leaves it on that setting at night, as there are animal noises that it makes. She DOES like to play this in her room when she is studying, and it is actually quite fun.

The second sound setting only makes ocean noises, not any animal noises. This is perfect for going to sleep and I find it quite soothing. It does turn off after 20 minutes, which is the perfect amount of time for us. The 20 minute setting is NOT adjustable (it can only be on for 20 minutes unless turned off manually earlier than that).

The third setting is just lights. This is nice if your child does not like sound, and just wants an extra light.

The final setting is off. If you are like me, it may take you until you read the instructions to know that you need to hold the button for 2 seconds to turn it off.

We have had it installed for a couple of weeks, and the batteries are still good. We love the fact that it does not need to (and cannot be) plugged in, as all of my daughter's outlets are blocked or being used. This uses batteries, which are included when you purchase it.

Overall, my 10 year old daughter likes this product, and I expect to get much enjoyment from it in years to come!

I am not sure what the manufacturing process may be, but the number line won't lay flat. I had an experienced helper, and in fact this is the sixth line I have taped down. It was a struggle to try to get it straight because the sides are different length, perhaps due to the color differences. It took a really long time, and I can only hope that the rumples aren't a tripping hazard.

While this drum is specifically designed for children, I must say it is a great drum for any age. I purchased this one and a larger sized one for my high school students to use in class. They are wonderfully durable and have a very professional sound. We use them for theatre productions where we need "real drums" and the sound is great. You won't be disappointed.

We have this game in my preschool class and the kids love it. I usually use it as a one-on-one activity between me and a student, but most of the kids can probably do it on their own once they get the hang of it. The game has been in my class for four years and it is still going strong, so that is a vote for its durability!

Technically, this seems to be more of a learning activity than an actual "game," but my Pre-K kids are eager to use it. It can be adjusted to the different learning abilities in the classroom. The easiest pages have the kids match shapes or colors and the most advanced pages (in Book Three) have them indicate the beginning or ending letter sounds of pictures, and identifying those letters. There are also math activities. The children can self-correct, which they love because they don't like to make "mistakes" and it's a good lesson for "see, even if you make a mistake you can fix it!" which helps their enthusiasm for the game. There are several levels of thought that go into using this activity...trying to remember to match the colored squares in order to indicate the correct answer, recognizing similarities and differences in pictures, as well as some more abstract concepts. I wholeheartedly recommend this game for Pre-K and kindergarten-aged students! I just wish there were many more activity books to go with it.

I have my own kids and I do daycare. This is always a big hit when I take it out! You will get the most out of it if you use it one on one, or a very small group (2 or 3 max). I love that it grows with my kids. They start off easy and become progressively difficult as you move through the levels. One of my favorite features is that it allows kids to self-correct. They can see what they got wrong and fix it. Discovery Toys are some of the best toys on the market, and once again they have outdone themselves! I highly recommend this product to anybody with kids 3-5.

I read a lot of reviews on globes, and it appears that unless you shell out $500 for a globe, you're going to have a few lines not match up completely in the longitude. This is no different here. But it's really not noticeable unless you're looking for the imperfections because it's only 3 lines and they're only off by 1 to 2 millimeters from 60degreesE to 90degreesE (which is in the Indian Ocean and doesn't effect the countries). I'm very happy with this globe otherwise. The base is sturdy. No wobbling. Good wood and a heavy screw at the base. It spins nicely. Comes with a "how to read your globe" guide and I like the time difference dial at the top of the globe. The raised topography is nice and not intrusive. The antique look is better in person. The countries are more subtly colored than in the picture which I found to be a little too "candy like". It appears to be up to date. Contains lots of cities, river names, etc aside from the obvious country and ocean names. I think it's a great globe. It's probably really worth about $50 at most, but when the cheapest globe online is about $30 and those are absolutely horrible in construction, this is worth the money in comparison. Seems the globe manufacturers keep the price a little artificially high.

I purchased this as an ornamental piece for our reading room, and have not been dissapointed. It's made of quality material and is very detailed. My kids (seven and eight) also love to sit an analyze the globe. They've learned quite a bit about geography simply by having it around. It comes with a nice pamplet on how to read globes, which is a nice bonus.
