Reviews of LeapFrog: Turbo Twist Spelling
My son is an 8 yr. old who is beginning 5th grade. He is a very good student. His only difficult subject is language arts (Spelling). This turbo twist spelling has captured his attention, motivated him, encouraged him and rewarded him. He says it is cool fun! Most important to Mom is the reaction we see when he succeeds in spelling geography or fascinate correctly. Thanks leap frog. Note: Please parents/teachersencourage leap frog/leap zone to keep their web site affordable. We have used it and it is a gem. However, if the price prevents children who need it from using it... it is a waste of time and effort. A minimal fee is understandable... But let's work to make this available to all kids who need it!
My only complaint is that it will only remember one person's identity. That is the only short coming that I have seen to the unit.

This little tool may help your child learn spelling without fighting. It has a decent word list embedded, but you can also expend it by buying cartridges, or, if you have the Mind Station, download words for your child's spelling curriculum that they use. The unit repeats the words that you misspell, making you try again, and if you did miss it once, and got it the second time around, it will slip it in again down the road, to reinforce the learned spelling. With the multi player mode multiple children can play against each other, even at different levels. My only complaint is that it will only remember one person's identity. That is the only short coming that I have seen to the unit.

I brought this for my Granddaughter, who was having a hard time remembering to bring her spelling words home. She is now! We go to the leapfrog web site enter her new words and she plays with the twister all week. Getting ear phones may help the parents like this toy even better.Honest reviews on LeapFrog: Turbo Twist Spelling
I purchased this TOY (as my son would look at it), to help him with his spelling. He is in the second grade. He loves it and so do I. I download his spelling words each week from the computer and send him off to play. He doesn't even realize that he is studying. He has scored 100% on all his spelling tests thus far. I highly recommend this. Then again, you can't go wrong with any Leapfrog product. I think I own everything they make. My children absolutely love to play with them, and I love that they are learning.Sunday, November 16, 2014

Review of Rhythm Band Rockin' Rhythm Bag
Although there were no product reviews for this set, after much research on the alternative options available for a kid's starter music set I took a chance and ordered it. We're very pleased with the contents of the "Rhythm Bag"! Nice quality and our 2.5 year olds love the instruments. The maracas are very sturdy, large and make a nice sound (ours are purple although the photo shows them as red, but it doesn't matter to us). I priced it out to buy similar items from Amazon individually in order to make our own set and this was a MUCH cheaper option. The fabric bag is great to keep everything together. All-in-all, it's a great starter set. We added a couple of harmonicas and recorders to the mix for more fun! Don't hesitate to try it for yourself.
Colors vary despite the photo, the contents can be a mixture of blue, red and/or purple.

The Rocking Rhythm bag is exactly as pictured. What you probably wouldn't know is how WELL everything is packaged. All of the instruments were neatly placed into labeled, individual bags..this was quite impressive. I'm very pleased with the delivery of the items as well as overall product quality. My 3 and 6-year old really enjoy playing with the instruments and are quite intrigued with them. I was skeptical due to the pricing of the set, but I took a chance...I'm very pleased with my purchase and will most likely order more as gifts.Best Deals for Rhythm Band Rockin' Rhythm Bag
This set is exactly what we've been using in our baby class, and it does the job. The rattles are massive, and the sand blocks shed a little when used, but at the price the selection and quality are very good. The block and mallet, the bells, and the triangle all have a very pleasant sound. The booklet with ideas for musical exercises was a great addition, and the storage bag is useful.Colors vary despite the photo, the contents can be a mixture of blue, red and/or purple.

Fisher-Price Little Superstar Bop 'n Beats Drum Set Review
I thought this would be a great toy, I mean, a drum set for a baby. But this just isn't a drum set, it is a badly designed hard plastic toy that makes noise. And half the time it doesn't even make drum like sounds but sings for you. Or yells at you. I mean, hit that plastic drum and half the time it will sing for you "babadoo ba ba ba". Common. That is just simply dumb. If there had been a button for the toy so that it only made drum sound in mode one and did this stupid singing/yelling in the mode two I might have liked it a little better. Or make more parts that do the yelling if you so wish. But the "beebeede beebabooo Yeahh" is even irritating to my seven month old. This could so easily have been a great toy. I thought more highly of Fisher Price than this. Slight modifications on the sound would have made it nicer and make some of the hard plastic soft (for my teething 7 month old). And why not have more parts that move and rattle to make sounds on their own, what is wrong with that? As is it is not a very nice toy. I was so disappointed!
UPDATE: My daughter is now 15 months old and still plays with this toy. I just wanted to add that it is still going strong and holds her interest.

I purchased this for my daughter after my husband saw it in a store (he's a musician) and my daughter was thrilled with it immediately (5.5 months old then.) She "got it" right away and never seems to tire of it. I was pleased with the sturdy construction and the dual volumes. I like that it plays both scats, and each instrument individually. It's bright, colorful, and I love that all the pieces have smiling faces, as babies really identify and enjoy faces on EVERYTHING. This was well worth the money and I have recommended it to many other mom's in my online groups. It's a great toy!UPDATE: My daughter is now 15 months old and still plays with this toy. We got this toy as a gift. Was never played much with neither of my two babies paid attention to it. There is nothing much there just a stand with some drum-shaped attachments that play some short song or music when hit. Yesterday I sold it at a yard sale for a dollar and had two mommies fight over it. Thus became curious and checked the price of this toy here. Frankly, I am shocked to see it priced at $39! I thought it was under $10 for all the play value and functions it has. Save your money, it is an overhyped & overpriced toy.Honest reviews on Fisher-Price Little Superstar Bop 'n Beats Drum Set

Got this as a gift for my daughter this past Christmas. I know, I know, if it's enjoyable for baby it shouldn't matter to dad, but I was hoping that there would be more musical features with this toy (I have to agree with reviewer Sigrun Hreinsdottir, the scatting "biddabeebopbopboo" is a tad irritating) and my daughter only plays with it sporadically, it doesn't really hold her interest. If there's one toy I would recommend it would be the LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical Table, I got this for her last Christmas and she STILL enjoys playing with it (I'll be writing a separate review for that, but let me say beforehand that I do highly recommend it). In all fairness to this product, my nephews seem to enjoy it.Friday, October 17, 2014

I See, I Spell, I Learn - Picture Sight Words Flashcards Set 1 Reviews

I purchased Set 1, Set 2, and the downloadable workbook online from this seller. The cards are durable, wipeable, almost index sized.
The Seller is fantastic & provided above & beyond service, with a extra heap of patience. The workbook is a 1 time download, so do it off a computer connected to a printer (not your tablet).
My child has PDD-NOS, ADHD, Dyslexia and Sensory challenges. He was sent home a list of sight words to memorize last year but he couldn't do it. He continued this year with 'review' of the words he should have known but still wan't grasping how to memorize them. We have tried a variety of silly ways to drill them down to him, but these cards were the first thing to consistently 'stick' with him.
In the past we've had all the Elementary School teachers on board with questioning my child 'what sight word do you have in your pocket today'. It was an adorable idea, & he had a lot of fun charming those teachers, but it didn't work. We've added sensory components at home, we've used live caterpillars to climb to the next word as a positive reinforcement, we've used the treadmill's on switch & placed the sight word on the track whenever he read a word out loud....we still had a very frustrated little boy.
These cards WORK!
I am so extremely grateful for the designer! Takes a special type who gets our kids to come up with these sort of tools. Can't wait to buy set 3, 4, 5, etc. These picture cards are great for teaching sight words. I got the combo of sets 1 and 2 and I love the picture cues in them, some are really funny and that helps them stick in children's minds. I also like that they don't clutter the card and the word is still visible clearly. Great buy!

We got this game with our new mobigo pink unit and it was immediately a hit with our 2 1/2 year old daughter. She needed a bit of help with some of the games, but is getting pretty good at the game quite quickly. So here is everything you wanted to know about this cartridge.
Like all mobigo games, it has two difficulty levels. For an adult, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the two but for a kid the difference is quite significant. It has six games in it, featuring either Cinderella or Belle. My daughter would have loved Snow White in there, but she was happy with just the two. The game tells you how to play before every game, but there is a skip button if the player knows already. These are the six games featured in this cartridge.
Magic Clothes For Friends
This game features Cinderella making new clothes for her rat friends. The player gets to stretch a measuring tape, getting a purple highlighted number. The player then needs to choose which piece of cloth measures the same number of inches. Then one gets to trace with their finger to cut the material in the shape of a t shirt or sleeveless shirt. (this part is quite difficult to do, especially for an adult since the touchscreen is designed to be sensitive for little fingers)
Fixing Jewellery For the Ball
Here we get to see Cinderella's rat and bird friends. The rat friends roll some coloured beads onto the other side of the screen and the player has to flick it into the corresponding coloured basket in the corners of the screen. (my toddler finds this directional flicking a bit hard). Then, the player gets a sequence of beads on a necklace, missing a couple at the end. The player has to choose the correct coloured and sometimes shaped beads and place them on the necklace, therefore completing the sequence correctly.
Dancing At The Royal Ball
Here, Cinderella is dancing with the prince. Musical notes go up in the screen, and one has to touch them when they are highlighted. Then we get a directional arrow sequence to memorise, and press in correctly when it disappears, so Cinderella completes her dance with the prince.
Enchanted Books, Missing Letters
The little clock from Beauty and the beast is having some trouble in the library. In the first part, an alphabet book is missing some letters and one has to find and press them on the pop out qwerty keyboard (my daughter goes crazy for this game). Then, the player needs to rearrange some books alphabetically by switching books with each other to complete an alphabetically correct sequence.
Feeding Animals on the Terrace
Another memorisation game, there are some birds on the screen which hide away after a couple of seconds. The player needs to identify where they were before they hid by throwing bird seed in their original position. The player is sometimes asked to identify the smallest/biggest or tallest/shortest bird. Next, we get to dust off some snow off the birds just for fun.
Pictures In The Stars
Belle and the beast are in the terrace at night and she is counting the stars. The player needs to touch the stars while counting, before they go off the screen. After one is done counting, the player gets to identify shapes of some stars by tracing them with his/her finger. After the shape is identified, three objects pop up and the player presses the one that looks like that shape (like an egg is an oval) Seriously though, I cannot understand how a rose is a circle shape! But otherwise, this is my daughter's favourite game.
I'm always looking for the detailed reviews and unfortunately, there aren't many who take the time to do them. Hope someone appreciates the effort. I will be reviewing other Mobigo games shortly. Hope this helps!

Buy Stedman's Medical Dictionary - 28th Edition
This is a comprehensive, medical dictionary that is well organized and cross-referenced. Its use is made more interesting by the inclusion of etymologies. It is not, however, for doctors only. This veritable treasure trove of information is also a boon to lawyers. All who use it, however, should read the user's guide that is included with the book, in order to maximize its value.
Great purchase for a really great price! Arrived in mint condition, and arrived quickly. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Good dictionary. However, there are better ones (particularly Tabers). I have less physically attractive medical dictionaries with no color and a boring cover that seem to have the definitions I am looking for when Stedman's doesn't. Adequate dictionary but perhaps Taber's in a better value.Best Deals for Stedman's Medical Dictionary - 28th Edition

I have just begun a course in medical billing and coding and decided I needed a medical dictionary. There are numerous volumes out there, so I asked my instructor which one she would recommend, and this is it. So, I ordered it and have since decided she was absolutely right. There are two many bonus features in this 2,300 page book to list them all, but they include symbols to help you create the proper medical terminology, terrific color photographs, illustrations and charts. I'm sure this book will be at my side throughout school and into my working career.Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Review of Push Toy Roller
This is a nice toy for either boys and girls learning to walk. They push it along and watch the colorful balls bounce. Bring it to the park and other kids will want to borrow it.We got this for my son's first birthday and he LOVES to push it around or pull it around behind him. When he's walking around with some other toy and he sees this roller push-toy, he will drop whatever is in his hands and grab this toy. It's simple. It's wood. It doesn't make annoying electronic noises or flash lights. And my son loves it. What more could I ask for?

Great product models for demonstration purposes these are a good portable size (a little on the small side), but can get your message across while demonstrating to a small class for an up-close look.
I'll admit the "uterus" and "amniotic sack" are not very useful, but the baby and pelvis are the main parts I use for demonstration in my classes. The pelvis is accurate and I am able to manipulate the baby to demonstrate normal birth physiology as well as breech, shoulder dystocia, etc. Students even love to see the baby swaddled in its tiny blanket after "birth."

Discount Educational Insights Hot Dots Standards-Based Science - Gr 5 (2509)
Students love these! Great practice and fun to use with the DOT pens. Item is very pricey, but worth it if student achievement increases. How to use: I made copies of the answer sheets for every student. They write down their answers and then check their answers with the dot pen. I have 8 teams in my classroom, so each team only uses one pen ($10 each) but not an issue because students are checking at different times. Answer sheets help students to record their answers and keep track of their progress or know that they need help in that specific area.
