Review of Fisher Price Little People Numbers with Teacher Terry
Purchased Teacher Terry with book for my one year old daughter. She loves looking through the book while holding Teacher Terry. Love this addition to her collection, just wish they made more than the 3 that are out there.

I'm using these cards with my 3 1/2 year old who is starting to learn to read. There are 54 cards, mostly 3-6 letter common words on the front and back, 108 words total. The package states that sight words don't follow phonics rules, but some of these words are arguably phonetic in pronunciation. Still they're good to review often as they're very common words and he should be able to pick up on them quickly when reading a book.
I'm also using them to help build sentences. Since he can't quite write the letters/words yet, the cards are laid out in a line to form a short sentence that he can sound out or pick up from memory. I also have a tabletop pocket chart from Smethport that they can fit into. These are used in addition to the level A and C set.

I got this set for my son (as well as levels A and C) right before my son started kindergarten. It was nice to let him practice some of the easier sight words, and it really helped him as he started school. These flash cards are great as well, because they taught him words that are not pronounced phonetically as well as words that he began to see a lot as he started to read books. He enjoyed the "flash card" system, and even asked to work with them. Now, as he is in second grade, I still use the cards. This time, though, I use the cards to help him with spelling these words. He is an auditory learner and tends to try to write all words phonetically. By showing him these cards, I can let him see what the different words look like--and how they are not spelled as they are heard. My second son is starting kindergarten, and we have started to use the flash cards with him. I feel that we have gotten years of use out of these cards, especially since they are so durable. I know that they print words on both sides of the card to make the package less bulky, but I do wish , as another reviewer pointed out, that the words were only printed on one side so that I could put them in piles of "what my child knows" and "what my child doesn't know." I have all three sets of these flash cards. My 1st Grader is now very excited about reading as the flashcards are more like a game to her than an actual task. The cards are very durable. I use these with my kindergarten so that he can learn his sight words, I put holes in the corner and put them on leaf ring, they are great to take out while we are at the restaurant waiting for food or at doctor's office, anywhere we have a few minutes to go over them.

This is awesome!
It is like a hand puppet of a hand! It has bony fingers and creepy look! The index and middle finger can be controlled independently, but the ring and pinky fingers are both operated using the same ring. Each finger is connected to a red strip that is attached to a ring for your finger to go into. You place your finger into the ring and pull down. When you pull down the finger comes down, simple design but very entertaining.
You can pull all fingers down to make a fist, point your index finger, give someone the finger (pointing middle finger only), point the ring and pinky fingers, point ring, pinky, and index fingers, point index and middle fingers, point ring, pinky, and middle fingers, point index and middle fingers, and point all of them at someone! I just wish the ring and picky fingers could be controlled separately, but it doesn't matter that much. The thumb can be twisted to adjust the look you want. The hand can be used by right and left handed people. So no worrying there.
It is really fun to wear a large coat, slip the hand up your sleeve and walk up behind someone and grab their shoulder! Watching their reaction is priceless, a bony hand grabbing at them! Oh the hand is white but the strips in them are red giving it an awesome muscle tendon look. The handle is also red too. The whole puppet is light and portable, it is about the size of an average adult male's hand. Except it's skeletal!
The puppet is plastic, the strips are thin and plastic as well. It seems very durable though. It is screwed together nicely and feels very solid. The foam pads it comes with: is to help grip slippery objects. The glue wore off kinda fast and they fell off. I never really noticed a difference in gripping. It can grab stuff, flick, and become a handy back scratcher! It pretty much does everything our hand can do. It may be hard for young children to pull the rings down all the way, as they do give some resistance while the fingers start curling up into a fist. I would recommend ages 5 and up. The operation is smooth and nice. Plus just watching the fingers twist and curl is awesome!
The education value gets 5 stars because of the awesome book it comes with. It has facts, and diagrams of the human hand. It was amazing seeing all the muscles in the hand! It goes to show how unappreciated the hand is. It is the one thing that makes all our days go by easier and helps us grab and grip stuff.-From the book.

This book shelf is not very well thought out. If you don't have enough books to fill the shelf, the books slide over and out the open sides. What you can't tell by the picture is that the sides of the shelf are completely open. There are ridges across the bottom to hold books in place but don't do their job well unless you have a full bookshelf. The reason I bought this was to keep all the TAG stuff in one place, for that purpose, this suffices. Every time my child pulls a book, the other books fall over and he has a mess to clean up. To avoid this, the books just get laid in horizontally for now. I wouldn't recommend this. Save your money and place a strip of velcro somewhere on you child's shelf, stick the pen there and you'll have a place to keep the pen. Keep the books in the same area of the shelf and you'll have an upgraded version of this idea.

I really wanted to like this. Like another reviewer, I also have the storage case and while it keeps everything in its place, it is also less likely to be used. Out of sight, out of mind.What I like. It ships in a flat box so when you take it out, there's a hinged element that snaps in/out. There's also a hole/holder for the TAG pen. Aesthetically, it's pleasing to the eye. As for function...
What I don't like. The grooves along the base for the books that could hold 10 books. Not functional at all. It either needs to have more of a ridge and/or an opposing ridge like what they used to have for CD jewel cases. Alternatively, just get rid of it altogether. Without the ridged element you could fit another 4-5 books.
Suggestions for the design team. Rather than a ridge, maybe a sliding mechanism to hold books in place for those with less than the 10 books configured. Make use of the area behind the pen, maybe another pen holder for those who have multiple pens or a place to hold the activity cards.

This is a fabulous spine model. I ordered a smaller one originally but this is far superior
in that it is more flexible, more durable, and more importantly better for clients to see
movement in order to integrate ideas in to their own bodies.
I put a heavy duty steel bolt in the wall with an eye (circular head) and then attached a
small carabiniere the the metal loop at the top of the skeleton. It hangs easily on the
wall. I just need to unhook the carabiniere to take it off the bolt. Easy and available.
It only took me 10 years to finally buy one. Glad I did.

This spine model is fairly heavy, so you probably want to order the stand right along with it. Packaging left a little to be desired: my purchase arrived with a huge sideways curve because of insufficient support in the box. The spine also has very pronounced S curves (following the current, dominant ideas in the West about normal curvature). Fortunately, the spine does have some flexibility as advertised, so I am slowly shaping it into an alignment that matches the pre-1920s Gray's Anatomy editions. This is the alignment teachers of the Gokhale Method, Balance, Natural Posture, or Kentro will need.
