This book (actually titled, "A to Z Adventure!" as seen in the picture) is a 'must-have' basic for anyone who owns the LittleTouch LeapPad. It's a simple and fun way to learn the look & sound of letters of the alphabet, and the alphabet song which is playable from every page (a couple pages play a 'rap' version of the song really fun & cute). The pictures are inviting to touch for my 14mo son, and the accompanying sounds, words and phrases are fun to hear. He loves to hear Dot's giggle and laughs along! The best thing this book keeps my son's attention. It's great for learning!

LeapFrog LittleTouch LeapPad Educational Book: A to Z Adventure! Reviews
This is my 2nd favorite book of the group. It teaches both phonemic awareness (the sounds the letter makes) and the letters and objects themselves. For example, on level 2 (words/phrases), it will say "buh, ball." It has the objects individually on one side and in a picture on the other so that a child can touch the "ball" on the left and then find it in the picture on the right.

I am a small person with small hands and I needed a small inexpensive guitar that wasn't a "toy". I read the reviews of the mahogany finish model of this guitar and many professionals carry this guitar for travel. I can see why. This easy to play, lightweight guitar packs A LOT of rich true tones. I was happy with the construction and smooth feel of the frets. I switched up the strings which was much needed and can't be happier! I highly recommend this guitar as an inexpensive but serious guitar for children, small people, and anyone who needs a good sounding travel guitar that you don't have to worry about.

Just did a set up on this guitar for a friend who bought it for his kid's Xmas gift.A string broke the minute she started playing with it. While that's not a big deal, when he brought it to me, I found the bridge pins where incredibly wedged in to the guitar. So much so that when removing (with a bridge pin tool) the top of one just popped off, and I was being pretty gentle, but now i'm replacing them all)
Finally, when I replaced the string and tuned it up, I found it was fretting out at the 3rd fret, looking closely you could see the 4th fret wasn't set correctly and was raised slightly at the b and e strings. It seemed as if it was clipped incorrectly and sat slightly over the neck. Impossible to fix without refretting/clamping and glueing/filing. It wouldn't be much of an issue from the get go if it fret out at a high fret, since most kids don't do virtuoso style playing, but it was at the 3rd fret, which is something that a few basic chords require to play correctly. Especially when learning.
There was a very strong glue smell to the guitar, as well. Plus a heavy "coated" feeling to the paint job. All of this made me believe that the guitar is just a mass produced guitar, with very little to no quality control.
Amazingly though, the intonation was pretty spot on. Which kinda blew my mind, and makes me a little surprised at the other issues. It's possible the QA people only focus on that.
It's probably a fine guitar for travel, and the perfect size for young kids, plus it's purty. Just beware that you may need to consider taking it to a reputable guitar tech or music store to take care of any "issues" that may pop up.

Review of K'NEX Education - Forces, Energy & Motion
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This K'Nex kit is great for the classroom or homeschool unit. This is an excellent resource for kids. We had great fun putting together the cars in this kit. My 8th grade daughter had a great eye for the instructions and together we've had a lot of fun with this kit. The kids in Tech class enjoy these types of activities as well.
This is an inclusive teaching aide. The K'Nex Education Forces, Energy & Motion comes with all the parts needed to make several different types of car: motor driven, spring driven, air driven and rubber band driven all super engaging. The directions are such that kids have to focus and use logic to put together the units. They are not so detailed that a zombie could put them together so they do require brain power.
Also included in the kids are the detailed instruction books that included instructions for each type of K'Nex car, and a CD for teacher information to help teach kids the different aspects of force, motion and energy.
This kid provides hours of brain fueled fun great for groups and teams. The parts are sturdy, though some take a little muscle to click together. The building instructions are first rate and the projects are very clever. This also comes in a solid, sturdy case for safe keeping with plenty of room to gather the pieces for a project and do the work inside the case so no pieces get lost. This is for ages 10 plus, little kids would probably get frustrated unless an adult does the work from the instruction booklet and has the child gather the parts and participates in simple ways in the construction. This is a great kit for 6th grade through 9th grade aged kids.
K'nex lends itself far better to engineering and physics problems as it is much sturdier (although not a sturdy as Erector sets!) and one can build cars and structures that will hold together throughout testing. For physics and engineering projects (motion, machines, conservation of energy, structure building) K'nex is clearly better than Lego.
I also use K'nex in my math classes when I need to show 3D structure.
As a teacher you can register on the K'nex education site and receive access to lesson plans which are linked to the Common Core Standards. This is quite useful.
For this specific set I was pleasantly surprised by the included teacher's manual (on CD as a pdf). The writer clearly understands that students should not simply be given a set of instructions to follow but instead the students are led through the steps of the scientific method and not ordered to collect data in a certain manner. This is actually inquiry based learning. A word of warning, these sort of labs take a long time, but the time is not wasted. Students are engaged in actually DOING science, rather than following some recipe. For higher level thinkers who stay on task I actually completely abandon the worksheets and tell them to design a lab to test, say, how weight and number of windings of the rubber band motor impact distance traveled. However, if time is very tight in your class, using the provided lab outlines would provide enough structure to make certain that the students are progressing and will ensure that there are enough K'nex parts for each group. In the past I have simply bought the K'nex parts via retail (they are fully compatible with the educational versions). You can order replacement parts but I have actually found that I can often get the pieces I need more cheaply by scrounging from other sets. What I do really like about these educational sets is that there are enough parts to build multiple of the same model (say rubber band powered car) at a time for direct comparison. K'nex parts are pretty sturdy, and I rarely have students break them.
I would not suggest this specific set for an individual child. Since many of the parts are identical, for your money you could get a larger selection of different parts by buying less specific sets.
The set specifies that you can organize the parts, but the case itself does not actually have any dividers, which is strange as the bottom was clearly designed to accept movable dividers.
There are two battery powered motors (batteries not included), two flywheel powered motors and 4 rubber band powered motors included. These are usually the limiting factors when building (along with the wheels).
Four books of building instructions are supplied. I would suggest groups of 2-3 ideally, but 4 at the maximum, otherwise some students simply stand around and watch. So for a large class you will need more than one kit.
(Hint: many of these labs require a stopwatch, if your students have smart phones they can download stopwatch apps (they may have them already) which actually work better than cheap stopwatches)

My general preference is for K'nex for middle school and up and Lego for elementary school (with the exception of the MindStorms Lego sets which are excellent for computer programing at the high school level). This is actually based on the physical difficulty of assembling K'nex vs Lego, which is probably why K'nex is marketed as age 10 and up. K'nex takes more physical force and dexterity to assemble, but the type, size and physical integrity of the of structures are much better with K'nex. Bought this for my 3 year old son who is going through the dinosaur phase. He has a blast taking the T. Rex apart but does need some help putting it back together. The T. Rex comes with squishy organs skewered on the intestinal tract (I think) once my son figured out that you can slip them of he got the organs covered in dirt and hair and anything else on the floor. We've had to wash the little rubber pieces a couple of times. The dinosaur also comes with a brief book full of dinosaur facts for grownups to read to little kids. My one gripe about the T. Rex was the packaging. the box was crushed on one corner and ripped at the other. Fortunately everything was intact and nothing was missing, but it looked like T. Rex himself was trying to chew his way out. My son currently has T. So you may have seen the commercials for the Test tube Alien.That is the exact reason i tried this thing out.When i got it, it was cooler than i expected.
This thing is a acually kinda complecated.when you get the tube, the alien is inside a white egg thing which i dont know is made of.To hatch the alien, you must add water by pouring it through the feeding hatch and the egg disolves and sizzles out, like baking soda and vinigar.
Then, you will se its heart beat (Blinking light on Head) It will probebly be blinking green, after this, orange.When the heart is green it means the alien is drowning, it blinked green because when you were emptying the egg stuff with water the the top of the entenas got wet.So yes, if the top of its entenas get wet, the heart will blink green, and in "Testtube aliens" case, this is abuse.But it will stop blinking green once entenas dry.And orange meens the alien is starving.Witch means the water level is to low.How to keep it from blinking gren or orange? Quality tape that holds paper posters on all sorts of painted surfaces. The tape doesn't make any damage to the wall and using it posters can be firmly attached one to the other or to the wall.
The only possible drawback is that tape is only 1 inch (2,5 cm) wide so if you need to tape several big posters you will need to spend lot of tape.
Nevertheless I can recommend this tape due to its quality.

Discount Ryan's Room Puzzles Classic Puzzle (Animals)
Nobody has reviewed this puzzle yet, so I thought I would stop by and give it infinite thumbs up. Full disclosure, though: We don't actually own this puzzle. However, the kiddie room at our local library has it, and it is *awesome.* Our 18-month-old makes a beeline to the puzzle every time we visit the library. In fact, I think she views it as the library's main attraction.
I asked the librarians how long they had had this puzzle. Nobody could tell me for sure, but everyone agreed that it had been at least a few years. The library copy still looks fantastic. The colors are bright; the paints are not chipped or dulled; none of the pieces are bent or broken or splintered; and none of the knobs are loose or missing. Since this puzzle gets beat-up, played-with, thrown, gnawed on, dropped, and used as a weapon by dozens of toddlers, several hours a day, six days a week, fifty weeks a year I'm going to go ahead and say that the quality is excellent.
We have other Ryan's Room puzzles, and I could not be more pleased with them. I did a lot (a lot!) of comparison shopping, and we have puzzles from a few other brands. The Ryan's Room Small World puzzles knock the others out of the park in terms of quality of manufacture and interest for a young toddler.
I hesitated before I got the first Ryan's Room Small World puzzle, since the drawings seemed kind of goofy to me, and the puzzles for other brands looked more cool and stylish. For a toddler, though, the bright, primary colors and not-too-stylized drawings are just the ticket.

Buy Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Home - Replacement Pieces
I got the Fisher Price Learning Home at a yard sale, but all the small parts -the balls, the shapes, and the pieces of mail -were missing. Fortunately, replacement parts are available directly from Fisher Price's web site, for about $5 for a bag of ALL the parts, plus about $3 for shipping. On the home page, just type "replacement parts" in the search box, and it'll bring you to the right page. The parts are definitely worth replacing if lost or missing--this is a great toy!

This is a rip off. I bought my replacement parts directly from the manufacturer for $5. You can go to fisher price website and buy all of these replacement parts yourself without the middleman. I bought the house part of this set at a yard sale and the seller told me that the pieces were gone but that I would be able to buy them online for cheap. Sure enough, here they are. Matches perfectly just as described. I didn't need extra door knobs, but that's ok, when I sell this to someone else I will be able to give them the knobs. I have found this toy in big box retail stores for $50-$55. What's with the price here on Amazon??? My daughter really enjoyed it in the store,so I did give it four stars for that, but I sure wont be buying it online.

I can't say enough how great this toy is. Set up was super easy and my 4 yr old daughter just loves it. The volume on the little pen was surprising. You can turn it up or down. I got this for my 4 year old daughter and she absolutely loves this game. It has all the characters from the movie and all the right voices too. It's a challanging game at times and when she just wants to play around, it has easy and fun selections also. I highly reccomend this game for your 6 & under. Lots of fun!!
