Reviews of 3B Scientific VP760/1 Female Chimpanzee Skull (Pan Troglodytes)
Much more realistic than the laughable bone clones (bondo mystery ape) model that is most commonly available. This one looks more like the real thing.

Review of Fisher-Price Light-Up Lion Stacker

List Price: $13.99

There are so many to choose from but this little stacker keeps my 9 month old son intrigued for long periods of time. He can chew on the pieces then put them back together just to knock them back down while music is playing from the toy and it has a very rewarding tone as he stacks the pieces together that encourages him to keep going. Must buy!!My daughter played with the older model of this toy at my mothers house and loved it, I spent several months looking in town for it with no luck. I was so happy when I found it on her.

Buy Fisher-Price Team Umizoomi Vehicle - Bot Toy
Be patient and buy this toy from Toys R US or Babies R Us, for $6.99 instead of buying from the second hand dealers. I finally got all three of them this weekend. I am not sure why they aren't sending more then 5 at a time of these toys to Toys R Us, but that's what I would do. They get the toys in on Fridays and that is when they told me to call them to see if they got more in. Then ask them to save it for you behind the counter, but they only save it for a few hours. The toy is super cute, and lots of fun! My little one is so excited, that it is hard for me to wait until her birthday to give them to her! Good size for smaller hands.

This toy is very small. I was disappointed when i opened the package. It looks cheap, but its durable. My son loves it. I just wish it was a bit larger for the price $16.99 plus shipping, was a lot to pay, when it was just $6.99 at toysrus. Its an ok toy, but had i known it was that small, i wouldnt have paid that much for it.Best Deals for Fisher-Price Team Umizoomi Vehicle - Bot Toy
I knew that bot was my little guy favorite! But omg since he got it, sleeps with it travels with it, he has many toys but this one is by far his fave! I must say that it is a tad over priced but is well worth it.... If your toddler is an umozoomi fan you should definitely get this toy....Honest reviews on Fisher-Price Team Umizoomi Vehicle - Bot Toy
The toy looks very cheaply made but my 2 year old loves it! It says Fisher-Price but I've never seen such poor quality come from them. It's been thrown around for a few days and is still intact, I was rather shocked. I would have thought it would have fallen apart by now. If you can, go get one from toysrus, it's about 1/2 the price. It's a nice size for little hands.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Fisher-Price Team Umizoomi Vehicle - Bot Toy
The toy is small. For the money, one might assume it is more substantially sized, but it is stocking stuffer/Easter basket small. Bot is about 3in tall, and Umicar is no more than 4-5in long. In that respect, it is very overpriced--more appropriate around the $6-7 price point. However, it delighted our two year old, as Bot is his favorite. He carries his little Bot around, and vrooms him in Umicar. So, in that respect, it's a good toy. If your little one passionately loves Umizoomi, and you can bite your lip on the pricing, it's a good purchase.Sunday, November 23, 2014

This can be a fun toy for babies and toddlers, giving them their first chance to build towers. You can have your child group or stack by color or shape.
This toy won the Canadian Concours International du Jouet Educatif Certificate of Excellence. The manufacturer, Quercetti, states that all of their toys are made completely in Italy.
A similar toy, (Learning Resources Stacking Shapes Pegboard), won the 2005 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award.
For kids with special needs (including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, hypotonia, limb-kinetic apraxia, dyspraxia, and other muscle and movement disorders), these can be a great way for them to experience the fun of stacking towers.
This is the easiest set of stacking pegs I've seen. Their large size pegs (about 4-5cm high and wide) are easy for kids to hold, and the bump at the bottom makes them very easy to stack. There is no resistance (like there is with Duplos, for example); the child simply places one on top of the other. Once a peg has been placed on another, the stack won't fall down until your child knocks it down, which is half the fun!
I wish there were a star rating system for "appropriateness for kids with special needs" or "value for developing fine motor skills" each would have received 5 stars.
Therapeutic play suggestions:
Hold each peg just out of reach of the child at various angles (e.g. sit behind your child and hold up a peg so that the child has to turn his body and extend his arm to reach for it, then switch sides for the next peg).
For children who can stand with one arm supporting themselves on a table, put the base on a table (or couch) at the child's waist height. Put all the pieces on the floor (on both sides of the child) so that the child has to bend or squat down to pick them up.
Pros:
The pegs are large (perhaps larger than the ones from when I was a child) and are not a choking hazard, in my opinion
Many ways to play. Younger children can search for the shaker peg under other pegs, take the pegs off the board, dump the pegs off, etc. Older children can build towers, sort the pegs by shape or color, or create designs.
There is one peg that is a shaker/rattle. I didn't have one of these in the set I had as a child, and I think it is a wonderful addition.
The pegs fit together easily. For the most part, it is a loose fit, which is what I was hoping for (rather than a snug fit, which would make it hard for young children to play with because they would have trouble taking the pegs apart).
The pegs are slightly different shapes, instead of all the exact same cylinder shape.
Cons: (Please note that none of these are a big deal, I would certainly purchase this toy again even with these cons)
Some of the pegs have smaller holes and it is harder to fit the other pegs in (mainly the red ones)
The base is a soft, flexible material, instead of a hard plastic (like the one I had as a child). Maybe it said so in the description, and I missed it. This can pose a problem if you want to move the whole toy with the pegs in it; you need two hands to lift it without it bending and pegs falling off. Also makes it a bit harder to store, but I will be making a cloth drawstring bag to keep it in so in the end it isn't a big problem. I should note -the other peg toy I looked at had a foam base, and I really don't like toys with the foam because my son could chew off a piece and they aren't as durable. So, I definitely prefer this flexible base to the foam ones.

When I was a child, we had a peg stacking toy very similar to this. Ours had a hard yellow plastic base with pegs in different colors. I remember how much I loved that toy, so I was looking for something similar for my infant son (7 months). For now, he mainly takes pegs off the board, but I know this toy has lasting value as he will eventually be able to build towers with the pegs, sort the pegs, etc. Overall, I am very please with this toy.Pros:

My daughter is 16 months, and I wish I would have bought this toy sooner. She is loving stacking the pegs, andd putting them off and on the board. She is a hard one to get entertained, so I am impressed. I can see the toy will grow with her too. We will be able to use it for sorting and patterns when she is older. Great toy!Honest reviews on Quercetti Geokid Daisy Maxi
I gave this to my 14 month old daughter for Christmas, and she is really enjoying it and getting a lot of use out of it. I think she is at just the right age for it, developmentally she loves stacking the pegs up as high as she can until the tower falls down. The pieces are a nice large size for small hands. A very simple and straighforward toy...which I consider good no lights, music or bells, just a simple educational toy.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Quercetti Geokid Daisy Maxi
My baby (seven months old) loves this toy. I never would have picked this out for him but we tested it out at a local speciality toy store and he immediately could pick up the pieces and really, really, liked it. When he drops one he just picks up another piece. Now he is picking up the Daisy mat and dumping the plastic cogs (thus learning cause and effect). As he grows he'll learn to stack the pieces. Your baby will love it even if you think they won'tso go for it!Thursday, November 20, 2014

Cheap Playskool Weebles Role Play Limited Edition Collector's Pack
One day I told my 4 year old grandson that when his daddy was little, Weebles were his favorite things to play with because "Weebles wobble but they don't fall down". He thought that was terribly funny and asked if he could have Weebles too. I was so glad to find them on Amazon and now he's in love with them as well.

Our daughter received the Weebles Treehouse for her 1st bday. She still plays with it, but she often puts the two Weebles it came with in other toys and they're hard to find. So we had to buy more. She was really excited to open the box and have them take a turn down the slide.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Playskool Weebles Role Play Limited Edition Collector's Pack

MATH NOODLERS GR 2-3 Review
The following review of this game was written by Sarah, one of my 4th graders. We use this game in class to help teach about fractions. It is great to help students with equivalent fractions and comparing & ordering fractions. Here is Sarah's review:
Fun with Pizza Fractions is a fun game that we were introduced to in 4th grade. The game is fun to play and teaches us fractions. I can't get enough of it.
There are many ways to play the game (7 to be exact). My favorites are games number 1 and 3. The way to play number 1 is you set all of the fraction pieces in the middle then players take turns taking pieces. When all the pieces are gone, the player who has the most complete pizzas built wins.
The way to play game 3 is players take turns spinning the spinner and they follow the directions given on the spinner. For example, if it lands on 1/4, the player needs to try and find a pizza slice that is 1/4th of the pizza.
One of the things that could be changed is the pizza is TOO realistic. It makes me hungry. Something I like about the game is it helps us with our math.
I would recommend this game for a child in 1st-4th grade or anyone who struggles with fractions.

Great way to practice algebra in alternative fashion. It also provides graphing practice at the same time. Can be done independently as it is self checking.

Review of Melissa & Doug Flapping Penguin Push Toy
I have 20 month old twins that have no trouble at all playing with the penguin and duck push toys by Melissa & Doug. They can push and pull and the penguin, especially, is easy to use and flaps it readily flaps its wings, making a soft clacking noise. This is a solid wood bird with solid wood rod and ball. Of course, it's going to feel heavy. People aren't used to seeing classic, hand-made inspired toys anymore so they give it low ratings. Also, all toys require supervision. A baby can throw or swing around any baby-safe toy and hurt himself or others. To give this toy a low rating for that reason is absurd.
With a little practice and showing them how, which took just a few minutes to master, my babies were having great fun with these toys and actually head for them before they play with the plastic toy sets. They also look so happy and confident when they play with these because their efforts bring about the reward of seeing the wings flap. Sounds simplistic, but you should see their faces. It's a confidence booster for them. I am so happy I bought these and feel like these will last a good, long time,as I'm hoping to pass these on to the next generation.

I bought this because my 16 month old's daycare has one that he really liked to play with. It's pretty sturdy and just the right height for him. The penguin is really cute and the flapping is not too loud (which is great for me). It is painted wood, though, and as soon as my son took it outside onto the pavement he tipped it over and dragged it so now the paint is worn off of that area. But, it's not that big of a deal to me or to my son. He thoroughly enjoys this toy and so does his 2 year old brother.Honest reviews on Melissa & Doug Flapping Penguin Push Toy
Very nice toy but not easy tu push by my 14 month old...still she loves the penguin, she comes and picks it up and pulls it behind her. I had to teach her how to push it...guess its for a bit older children...Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Melissa & Doug Flapping Penguin Push Toy
My son is on the tall side and the angle of the handle seems to be better for shorter kids, but he still loves to play with it. He just ends up carrying it around rather than pushing it all the time.Saturday, September 13, 2014

I work with Nikon's and Leica's and was not expecting too much from this cheaper scope, but I was surprised by the quality of the optics. It's almost comparable to products by the aforementioned brands. One negative point is the lighting system, which is not optimal because the light is uneven on the sample due to the way it's been designed: the top lamp only lights the sample from one direction, while the lamp underneath is straight under the sample, and does not make use of a mirror.

Review of Fill In the Blanks Flashcards
As the teacher of children with autism and a parent of a child with autism, I am always on the look-out for products that are simple and help to develop language skills! These concepts are some of the hardest to teach, but these cards make it easy! They are simple and easy to carry to use as fillers and to help transition students. I really like using them with my students!

Discount Popular Playthings Electricity Kit
I have two boys (ages 6 and almost 5), and they both love this set. For the most part it's great for younger kids because of the easy-to-use connectors. When they are snapped together, they stay together until you pull them apart, so there isn't the frustration factor that can come with flimsier connectors. One note, however: the two wire pieces are a little less durable than the rest of the set. Make sure to tell your kids to disconnect by pulling on the END CONNECTORS and NOT on the wires themselves. If they pull the wires, they can become disconnected from the end connectors (we've had to repair one of our wires). My 6-year-old spends hours going through the instruction booklet, doing all the example projects, and also has a lot of fun inventing his own circuits. He'll put them together and see if they work...then methodically move bits around until it does work.
The booklet itself is really helpful. The projects (30 in all) are organized into groups: (A) learning to fit batteries, and connect components like lights and a fan; (B) learning about various switches; (C) series circuits; (D) parallel circuits; (E) mixed-connection circuits; (F) use of connecting wires; and (G) connecting vocal circuits (like making different sounds with the speaker by changing the connections). This kit is a great introduction to electricity and circuits!

I can't wait to pull it out when he's older because it is cool. We had read a magic school bus on electricity and Dad works for an electricity company so... but really, too many small pieces for him at age 5. Better to wait for age 7.
