We received this item as a gift for our 4 yr old son's birthday. The concept is great in that the child can relate activities in their day to certain times on the toy. Our son can now understand half hours, 45 minutes, etc!
The only complaint is that the magnetic hold on the magnets is pretty weak...so they don't stick real well and fall off easily if you brush up against the board. The pen also doesn't stick well to the surface and the magnet has already fallen off of it.This item is a bit pricey for what you get, but it is really a helpful tool in teaching children to read time. I ordered it two months ago, and by the time Christmas rolled around, my daughter wasn't having trouble with time so much. Still, it is very interactive with her daily life, including magnets for kids to practice time in conjunction with their daily activities. I highly recommend this item, especially if your children are just starting to learn to tell time.

Review of Brilliant Minds Montessori Math Kit
As a classroom teacher, the Brilliant Minds Math kit has helped my students understand the concepts behind math so much better. Rather than my students reciting numbers in sequential order, they actually understand how is applied. I have worked with many different types of math manipulatives, from number counters, bears and blocks. With this kit, the students learn the differences between ones, tens, hundreds and thousands by using the units, ten bars and cubes. The math kit provided by Brilliant Minds is the best one I have come across yet. I can't say enough about how helpful this kit has been to all of my students.I bought this as a backup to public school after we had to transfer my daughter from Montessori. It has been great to reinforce the traditional methods she is being taught in public school. Her little sister, who is 3 years old and in Montessori school, loves doing "homework" with these materials while big sister is doing her homework. Good quality. Very happy with the purchase and will probably be buying the advanced kit soon.

Review of Topzy Tumblers Silly Tumblers (boy)
My 14 month old grandson loves these and goes for them more often than the Weebles we have. They flip over and are never upside down. They are slightly smaller than the other brand and fit inside a little truck he plays with at our house.

Topzy Tumblers (aka "Weebles" in our household) are a favorite with kids, parents, and grandparents alike. These are a great toy for little hands to pick up and the wobbling, rolling path it takes is fun for crawlers and toddlers. Even the older grandkid (1st grade) likes them, using them as "eggs" for his toy snakes. The original set is several years old and still going strong through the third grandchild. These were a recent addition for the latest baby.Best Deals for Topzy Tumblers Silly Tumblers (boy)

These toys are my daughter's absolute favorite. She's loved them for 4 months, through a couple of stages of development. She really gets a kick out of the way they shake versus other toys and she loves to chases them around since their path is unpredictable. A must have, IMO.Thursday, November 6, 2014
Creativity For Kids Dream Journal Review
I ordered this for my son because he remembers his dreams each morning. He's taken it very seriously and loves having something special to write in every day. Even though he got plenty of toys, this was one of his favorite birthday gifts.
I do have to mention that mine looked nothing like the picture here. It is blue with an inset in the front for the pen to attach via an elastic band. The elastic band broke two days in. I think I can fix it with some hot glue.

Best 12 Live Caterpillars - Three Rearing Cups Deals
I've ordered twice from here and they have all hatched. My students love watching them grow. Thanks for a great product!I had attempted the caterpillar to butterfly experience twice before only to receive dead caterpillars both times from a different vender. Explain that to your preschoolers). I was happy not to try again except my 3 year old wanted them for his birthday. I went with this seller because they were the cheapest. I was more than pleased with the product. All 8 of our caterpillars hatched. I just ordered another batch because it was so much fun. Also the seller checked in with me throughout the process to ensure my satisfaction. Great experience!

Best My Own Learning Leap: New Baby! My New Friend! Deals
I got this as an add on for my 4 year old grandson to go with his My Own Learning Leap Interactive Friend. He loved it and it helped him adjust to the idea of having a new little sister. He's a rough and tumble little guy, but partly because of this toy, he's learned a lot about being a gentle big brother.I don't have a review to say because this was sent to a friend out of town and I know nothing else.

Insect Lore Live Butterfly Pavilion Reviews
My son (age 5) got this from his grandparents for Christmas and it has been terrific fun for all of us. The first set of ten caterpillars grew visibly day-by-day, then pupated and emerged as butterflies in a few weeks. There is a lot of great information about painted lady and other butterfly species online and having this project got my son very interested in how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly so soon I found myself showing him multi-colored pictures of imaginal discs (the larval structures that produce the butterfly wing, leg etc. during metamorphosis) online at websites I found--a great way to get him interested in developmental biology. The first time we talked about this he decided they were actually "magical discs", given what these groups of cells can do...the whole process has been very entertaining for the whole family.... It is also really fun to have butterflies flitting around and caterpillars growing in the pavilion in the kitchen when it is gray and wintery outside.
How to raise more than one generation of critters inside:
Since we sent our coupon for larvae out immediately after Christmas, we had butterflies dancing around the pavilion and mating in February when there were no plants outside to collect for the next generation of caterpillars to eat. Anticipating this, I ordered a mallow plant and some additional larval food from Carolina Biological Supply Company at about the time when our caterpillars turned into chrysalises: there is an online store and the stuff to get is the L918 culture medium (144040). This will feed about 80 larvae. (Unfortunately the Insect Lore company, which makes the Pavilion, only sells caterpillar food in small quantities along with additional larvae, which we certainly didn't need).
How to do it: We set the mallow plant in the pavilion and the butterflies laid their eggs on the leaves where we could watch them darken and emerge as very tiny 1mm long new caterpillars. After 4-5 days of watching the caterpillars eat the mallow plant (making little tracks on the leaves) we prepared them new homes in caterpillar media. To do this, you can use either the original plastic containers that the first generation larvae are shipped in (clean them out and dish wash them) or use another small clear-sided plastic or glass jar with a lid. Clean the containers well (I wiped the inside with a paper towel with isopropyl alcohol on it after dishwashing to kill bacteria, which will contaminate the food and make the larvae sick). The food will come in two plastic containers (nearly full). One of these can be frozen for subsequent generations. Transfer the contents of one container to a covered microwaveable container and heat on medium in the microwave (swirling every 10-30 seconds to mix and avoid overheating) until it is a solution. Pour media into the bottoms of the larvae containers to a depth of about a quarter inch (this will make 4-5 new containers). If there is a lot of condensation on the sides after the media has hardened, you can wipe this away with a paper towel--I did this, but then again alcohol-wiped the inside solid surfaces and lid above the media. Cover the containers loosely (leave the lid slightly ajar) and put them somewhere to dry. I laid a clean paper towel over the collection of covered jars to keep dust/dirt from drifting in given the activity level of the children here. After a couple days of drying, these were ready for larvae. If necessary (ie., if not using the previously shipped containers) make very, very small air holes in the lid. Then use a toothpick or matchstick to collect each 2-4 mm long larva off of the mallow plant leaves and tap to drop them into the new container. Put a clean paper towel over the top of the container (under the lid) and re-cap the jar--now the paper will serve as a scaffold for new chrysalises to hang from and will allow air in while preventing the tiny caterpillars from escaping. Try to be relatively aseptic about this.
It appears that we're going to get about 20-30 new caterpillars from the first generation, which I should be able to accommodate with the larvae cups made above...hopefully by the time we've run out of this food and been through a couple more generations it will be summer and warm enough to release all of the butterflies we have outside. The pavilion is well made and sturdy enough that it should accommodate many other projects involving insects. All in all, we've been entirely pleased with this--a great gift that's had my son on the phone describing his butterflies' recent development to grandma and grandpa several times!
One more tip: the adult butterflies seem to become upended on the floor of the pavillion at times while they are flapping around and have trouble gaining traction to right themselves on the slick nylon surface. This shortened the lives of several of ours until I saw it happening and put some packing material (like easter straw) in there for them to stand on.
We sent away for our catarpillars (every day he would say, 'have they come in yet'?) and when they arrived, put them in the habitat.
When I was a little girl, I caught a bunch of catarpillars, put them in a shoebox, with grass, leaves and whatever else I thought they might eat. I punched holes in the shoe box lid and then covered the box, and basically forgot about it until a few days or so, opened it and saw my catarpillars had made cocoons. Before long, they were moths and I remember how excited I was to see them!
With this habitat, you get to WATCH the whole process of metamorphosis and it is truly amazing AND educational!! When they finally transformed into butterflies, my son was so thrilled, altho a little saddened when we had to set them free.
I'm thinking about purchasing this again, one for my son and myself, and also one for his second grade teacher so his whole class can enjoy the experience.
If your child enjoys the wonders of natures and would love to witness the miracle of transformation of catarpillars into butterflies, this is DEFINATELY well worth the money!

My [kid] got this and shared it with her (...) class. They followed the instructions to the letter. Finally out came a whole bunch of the ugliest moth-looking like creatures. All of the children were so disappointed. Here they had seen the cover of the box with these orange painted lady butterflies! I called the company and they so nicely explained that these are not the colorful American Painted Lady butterflies. They are a different species that are much more gray and moth looking. We even had a bug expert come in to my daughter's class and tell us the "butterflies" sure looked like moths to her too! My question is, "Why does the company show colorful orange butterflies on the package when that is not what they are sending?" Very disappointing and not worth the money.Best Deals for Insect Lore Live Butterfly Pavilion
This item is extremely durable which can be used over and over for future butterfly raising. It isn't the usual cardboard and cellophane that some "bug kits" are comprised of. A fine mesh enclosure with secure opening allows children to observe the beautiful butterflies grow to maturity. My child is enthralled with the learning experience this toy provides!Honest reviews on Insect Lore Live Butterfly Pavilion

I bought this gift for my niece for Christmas and she seems to love it. It was very cute. She loved the bracelet and the book. The pen was a little flimsy but I don't know if it was the way it came or if the kids broke it. Most likely the kids broke it since they are so rough and she can be careless. Overall, I was very satisfied. This item got to me within 2 days, even through the northeast blizzard a few days back.

It is not easy to find organic sound-and-effect baby toys. My baby and I have been very pleased with this duck. Although she has not mastered the sqeak on her own, she loves his soft texture and crinkly hands. It wears well -my baby chews on him a lot and I have washed and dryed him many times in the machine.

This is a very cute product. Nicely made and I love that it's organic. It is very small and I would recommend it for a new born or as a first toy. I bought for a six month old who already plays with toys and have much bigger and more colorful toys... so unfortunately he didn't find it very interesting. I still liked it.. ;)Best Deals for Dandelion Organic Toy Squeaker, Duck

I am happy that there are options for organic toys but this duck is extremely small. Length is barely 5 inches. Was disappointed about that but the toy is extremely soft. I also like that it squeaks and has crunchy sounding feet...my dog may enjoy this toy more than my daughter so at least it will get used. Review of Mudpuppy Wooden Magnetic Playful Patterns Letters
I love how the entire backs of the letters are a magnets. The colors are nice and the box is nice and reusable. My one year old son like them, and is able to take the on and off the fridge.
They are not water safe, meaning no chewing and no washing (even with a damp rag I would be worried). The colorful tops are just a layer of coated paper, but after a quick washing to get the extra flecks of magnet and wood off them, the paper started to peel up. I glued them back down, only one got ripped but now I know, no washing or chewing. Meaning they can only be used with close supervision of a one year one. Annoying but not impossible.
Also the letter C and I are too small, I consider them a choking hazard at this age. Not a problem for now we just have his name on the fridge, its enough easier to keep track of.
Would I buy again? Maybe. They are made in china, boo. But they are wooden (pressed) and not from M&D (yeah!). I would probably try to find something more waterproof (design painted on instead of paper) first, but if I was unsuccessful I very well may buy again.
I had been searching for a good wooden magnetic set that is SAFE and these are it! I recommend ordering 2 sets so you can have doubles of every letter vs just the extra few they give you of certain letters.
These magnets look great on my fridge. As far as the other reviewer's comment regarding the product not being water proof/drool proof because of the paperI figure if and when the paper wears off it'll be a fun project for my LO & I to paint these wooden numbers with non-toxic paint. But I don't see that happening in the near future. They seem very well made and sturdy and it's very difficult to even tell there is paper on them instead of paint. Great alternative to the ugly cheap plastic magnets that are no good for our babies nor the environment!
I am very pleased and recommend this set to everyone. For this price, these are a steal in my opinion. Rest assured you are getting a great product.

I love this set of letters, and am happy to have such a cheerful alphabet on my fridge. I was relieved to find something other than the typical plastic letters that have been around forever. However, I was disappointed (especially considering the price) to find that they are not painted letters as I assumed from the illustrationrather, they are pressed particle board with a thin clear coating over the patterned paper on each letter. My daughter is still teething, so she likes to try and chew on them more than anything else. We shall see how long they last.Honest reviews on Mudpuppy Wooden Magnetic Playful Patterns Letters
Colorful design and well made. We bought these for our two year old to put on a magnetic wall in his room. Perfect for what we wanted, and they seem quite durable. While not impossible, it would be difficult to break or peel the magnetic backing off, so I am not overly worried about these being a choking hazard. Review of Animals of the World Inflatable Globe
I purchased this globe and a couple of others to take with me to my Peace Corps assignment to use in the classroom. I will be serving in Turkmenistan and I can't take a regular globe with me due to space. The globe does not look totally accurate, but it will serve to help me teach a bit of geography and something about animals of the world. Since teachng supplies are in such short supply there, I think this globe will help me reach the students. It is very brightly colored and has a means of hanging from the ceiling. I think it will work very well for the purpose.

Discount I Dig Triceratops Skeleton Excavation Adventure - Paleontology arts
We got this for our four-year-and-two-month-old for Christmas. She loves to work on projects together, so this seemed promising, and turned out to be a huge hit. We started in the dining room, but we soon had to move it outside after splattering rock everywhere. She was nuts about it. There's lots of pounding with a little hammer and/or pick until you start to unearth bones, then brush away the bits of rock, hammer more and uncover more bones, etc. She kept running into the house to tell Mommy to come out and see our progress, and she was so excited as we pulled out one bone after another. After that there is the fun of snapping them together to make a pretty cool skeleton, and then painting. Definitely one of the best toys we've come across. I would guess that few four-year-olds would be able to do this alone (it's officially targed at age six and older), but it's great project for working on together. We split the digging into two sessions, interrupted by cold weather. It might be a lot to do at one sitting.
1. LET YOUR CHILD DO IT. It's tempting to take over, especially when you get close to the bones, but don't, the bones are a very sturdy plastic, they won't break unless you bend them...help out only when asked.
2.MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD WEARS THE GLASSES. The little pieces of rock come flying out everywhere. Glasses are a must!..for you as well.
3. DON'T DIG OVER CARPET. The rock kind of makes a mess....not a big mess, but it's much easier to sweep up from a hard floor than a carpet.
4. LET YOUR CHILD DO IT!!! They may need help putting the pieces together, but for the most part, LET THEM DO IT! They will get a great sense of accomplishment from this activity. It is engrossingly fun and satisfying and in the end they have this great model to proudly display. I can't wait to get the other models. Get this!!! Whether they're into dinosaurs or not, they'll love it.

My son is just five--next week, and he loved I Dig! Triceritops. When I say loved, he sat from 8 a.m. until noon without leaving his chair. The look of concentration and amazement on his face was worth way more than $24.99, plus he has a model HE made (big currency to a preschooler) and can put in his room. One last detail, while he likes dinosaurs, I won't say he is obessed with them. The allure was definitely the activity--one he could do with very little intervention from mom and dad. Also worth the price--hearing a 5 year old try to say paleontologoist.Honest reviews on I Dig Triceratops Skeleton Excavation Adventure - Paleontology arts

Cheap Colors, Patterns, Smiles Mini Rollercoaster by Anatex
My two grandchildren (ages 1 and 3) are always fascinated with this toy when they visit the doctor's office. I bought them one for Christmas and it was the hit of the day. Their mother tells me that they play with it daily.
The price was great, the size was right, and the reviews were glowing...what's not to love? We received this last week and he's played with it every day. It's amazing how the simplest of toys can end up being their favorites! I absolutely recommend this. It's not too big and bulky, and with the 5 coasters and all the beads, there's plenty to keep them entertained. This was a great purchase...VERY pleased!

We purchased this mini bead rollercoaster for our son's first birthday. He loves it! It keeps him entertained in his pack-n-play for quite some time. As his skills improve, I know he will continue to love pushing the beads around the wires. The qualities I like most about this product are its durability and size. This toy has already taken some beatings from our son and it still stands looking brand new. None of the wires seem loose or compromised in any way. Mostly, I love that it doesn't take up an entire room (like the counterparts you find in doctor offices), yet it is just as much fun.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Colors, Patterns, Smiles Mini Rollercoaster by Anatex
My 21 months old son love this rollercoaster! He has been playing with this hasn't gotten bored with it yet. We have it for roughly a month now and he still play with it almost everyday! With most of his other toys he gets bored quite quickly. I'm glad I have gotten this for him. I would really recommend this toy, the kids will love it!Sunday, June 29, 2014
Reviews of Manhattan Toy Color Burst Winkel in a Box
I heard about the Winkel on a message board for new mothers and thought I would give it a go. I absolutely love it! (or should I say he LOVES it!!) I gave it to my son when he was about 3 months old, around the time he was just learning to grasp for things. It is so easy to get a hold of it was great for building his skills and actually enjoying being able to grab it and get it in his mouth! He is about 5 months old now and I don't see him growing out of it any time soon!
Pros:
The black and while zig zag print is very stimulating for her to look at.
The toy seems very durable (won't break, finish will not come off).
I can't think of a way that the toy could hurt her, even if her toddler brother hits her with it.
Cons:
The rattle is not very loud.

I purchased one of these for my 5 month old twins as they have different toy preferences. I had to order a second one because they both love the winkel so much. They were actually stealing the toy away from each other. It's great to chew on, shake and just stare at. I don't think I could recommend a toy more!Best Deals for Manhattan Toy Color Burst Winkel in a Box
This was one of my son's favorite toys when he was hitting the six month old mark; however, his interested waned as he got older. He's no longer interested in rattler type toys, but it was very fun when he was into that sort of thing.Honest reviews on Manhattan Toy Color Burst Winkel in a Box

Our four month old son likes this toy. The colors are bright, and the tubes are easy for him to hold onto, and chew on. I like that I can attach a leash to the toy and stroller/seat/swing so that when he does let go of it, it doesn't end up on the floor!
