The instructions used Metric measurements so that was an added learning dimension. They are simple wooden toys that do take an adult's help to construct.

We worked with a middle school Robotics club to develop a ROBOT for BEST Robotics. One of the concepts we worked hard at was the design of an arm. This wood kit allowed the kids to experience building arms, and get a feel for what is was like building them out of wood. Also it helped them understand robotic joints and the locations for sensors, motors and serveos. We had a great time with this kit, and it was used by 16 kids.I-ROBO Educational Robot Kit

We've pretty much sworn off electronic toys until the quality control improves.

These had easy-to-follow-instructions. Wood, syringes, tubes and glue. Pretty foolproof. They even provide sandpaper to smooth the dowels when the joints are a bit tight. Simple and straightforward. Definitely a good intro to how hydraulics work. And no batteries, bad switches, cheap crappy plastic. If you're tired of poorly made toys, this one's a good bet.

My 11 year old daughter wanted to do her science fair project on pneumatics and hydraulics so we bought this kit. She was able to independently build each model which contributed to her overall pride and success in her project. Backup materials by the company were provided on the Internet, but were still under development.
