Review of Ertl John Deere Johnny Tractor Radio Control

This was an odd one; after reading the excellent reviews on this toy, I ordered without any hesitation. Now I am puzzled how come this toy could have received such glowing reviews?

Sponsored comments or just very unlucky on my end?

There were two major issues with this delivery; for one the description clearly stated that the toy comes with batteries (2AA batteries included). This was wrong on two levels: a) there were no batteries included with the shipment and b) this toy requires 3 AA and 1 9V battery. So whoever wrote the product description must have had a rough night before because he/she/it clearly missed the mark the next day.

So, before anything could be done, a trip to the store was in order to get the tractor on the road.

When it finally ran, it wasn't off to a good start. While it runs straight like a charm, the turn around function doesn't work at all. We had a similar toy before so we knew what to expect. But not turning the tractor around remotely defeats the whole idea of a RC tool.

To be fair, my little one doesn't really know the difference, so when it got stuck and couldn't turn, he ran and grabbed it. Which is however not the point.

In addition, when unused, the toy enters some stage of convulsions. Every so often, without any external impact, one of its wheels moves a bit. If I wouldn't know better, I'd say it is possessed. Or gravely ill and convulsing a couple of times more before entering the eternal playground.

When I finally called Amazon to talk about the toy, I was just stunned at the level of customer service. First, the whole battery issue was simply brushed aside. "We are sorry" is not really cutting it.

And it went down the hill from there. But that is a different story.

I would really like to give this toy 5 starts. I like the way it looks, I like the way it feels. It is perfect for a little guy/girl to run after giggling.

Maybe it was a Monday-toy. Not sure if I should buy another one ...

This toy is perfect for my two year old! He is obsessed with tractors and remotes so this is a perfect combination! It is a very simple controller so he can work it all by himself but it is also fun for me to "drive" it and he likes to chase it around the house. The tractor itself is covered with a very soft plastic so I don't have to worry if it is going to run into my walls or furniture. The only weird thing is if it is turned on but not being driven, it has little spurts where it moves about an inch or two by itself. It does not happen when it's turned off. It took me a bit to figure out what the noise was in the toy box! Overall a great buy!!

Recived product and it doesn't work. It was bought for a kid who's Dad is an engineer at John Deere and he couldn't even figure out what was wrong. We changed batteries twice and it still doesn't work. And now I can't find any info about the seller on here so I can return it. Obviously I'm very dissapointed with the quality of this product.

Got this for my son for his 3rd birthday and we put the batteries in, and nothing. It glitches for a few seconds, turns in a quick circle but won't work. We tried to return it but they wouldn't allow us to. Very disappointing for a little boy excited for a tractor :(

Need to return item. Opened on Christmas and did not work. checked the batteries. The toy did not work. I am very disappointed.
