Im not sure about the previous reviewers experiences. I can tell you that I have had my Leap Pad for 5 years since they first came out and I still have the same one with all the books and it works just good as it did on day 1. I put it away for a while and I brought it back out for my son who is now 4 and he is enjoying it as much as my daughter did. Im actually going to buy more books for my older child so she can play with it again too. Ive been VERY happy with this toy. There are so many different options. It kept my daughters attention for long periods of time. I did have to replace the pen once but leap frog just sent me the replacement and I attached it. No big deal. There are so many books available for all ages this toy is great for all 3 of my kids. The sounds are very clear and each page has alot of different activities. The only thing that has been an issue is if I let my toddler play with it she can rip the pages out of the books. So I just dont let her play with it by herself. Other than that this is a 5 star toy by far.

We are on our 5th leap pad and although my children love it, we as parent's are going broke trying to repair and fix this darn thing! I just don't feel this is an appropriate toy for the 3-5 year olds. It is too delicate and breaks easily. My kids get so upset when it doesn't work properly and we have invested quite a bit of money in the books and cartridges. Which are sitting unused in a closet because our last two leap pads are (again) broken. Don't waste your money!

Our Leap Pad is now on our third child and she is enjoying it as much as her brother and sister did. She is only 2, so she only uses it under our supervision. My son used it until he was 8 and my daughter until she was six. The only thing we have ever had to replace is the pen once. We have the carry case so the kids can take it in the car or on trips. I like that it has volume control like the T.V., unlike many other toys that only have two settings. You can also use headphones with it. There are numerous books for every level of reading and interaction. It taught my children many vocabulary words that I would never thought to have used with them. This is a fun and educational toy that the children love using. I highly recommend it.

I recently bought this product for a second set of grandchildren. It was a very nice toy and again it was a child-pleaser. Now I have discovered that the books are not in the stores and Amazon only has a few. On line, it is hard to tell which books go with this game as opposed to many books that go with later versions. I assume they are not compatible.

I feel bad that I spent this much for a toy and now cannot provide the child with multiple books. Any suggestions?
