Barn Owl Pellet: Each: X-Large Review

Customer Ratings:

I bought the owl pellets for my two boys. I remembered dissecting owl pellets when I was their age in school and wanted to share the experience with them.

They received these as a Christmas present and after the amusement of their other toys wore off, they were excited to do these. I helped my youngest son open up his aluminum foil covered pellet and was happy to see it was just as I remembered what they looked like. Gray, fuzzy and smell free.

Then I helped my oldest son open his, his first reaction was that it smelled really bad, and when we removed the foil we had two large rat skulls staring up at us. These skulls had caked on fur, that looked like it was shat on by an owl. And the smell reminded me of my dog's favorite perfume, "Dead Squirrel Le Toilette". My assumption was that it escaped sterilization, but encouraged my son to try to remove the fur to get some pretty cool skulls to check out. That worked out, until a maggot crawled out of the skull. After killing the maggot, my oldest son took off, and lost complete interest. I took the skulls and tried to boil the fur off, but found that the skulls still had muscle matter on them and my house was beginning to smell like death. Everything ended up in the trash, including the pan.

In summary, they are fun to dissect and my youngest had a great time identifying the bones with the bone chart enclosed. You do have to provide your own tools. We used tweezers, scalpel and small pick. But, if it smells really bad, you're better off leaving it alone, unless you like bugs, half decayed muscle tissue holding the skulls/bones together. But, I would take the risk again if my children wanted to do these again.

I'm sorry, but even with the educational value of this "toy," it is just unnecessarily expensive. Cause walking into an owl cage, or out into the forest to find an owl pellet is so hard. Why on Earth does anybody think I'm about to blow five or six bucks just for shipping and handling (on a three dollar item)? Fat chance. Lower the shipping cost and maybe I'll consider buying it, and tell others to buy it too. But for now, I'll stick to walking through the forest.

Customer Ratings:

I would encourage the producer of this toy to redo the voices in it but otherwise it's a great buy. I'm still not sure why it didn't come with a charger but it has a port that no other device of mine seems to with with. Baby is learning a lot, he's only 22 months so it's a little advanced for him but still fun with supervision.

Discount Hape - Mosaic Puzzle in Bamboo

Pros:

1. FUN! My grandson loves it!

2. There are no "rules."

3. It holds a five-year-old's attention.

4. It holds his grandmother's attention.

5. It hold the attention of adult guests.

6. Any way the tiles are arranged, it looks like a work of art.

7. The pieces are precision cut bamboo, with no rough edges.

8. The tray has just enough "ease" to make it easy to put the pieces in and take them out.

9. The colors are gentle, yet bold and clear. Non-toxic.

10. There are more tiles than you need to fill the tray -many more. Enough so that you can choose colors and shapes to suit the design or pattern in mind.

11. Pleasing to look at, satisfying to handle.

Cons:

1. The pieces are too small to have around toddlers.

2. It's hard to put away. Oh, there's a cloth bag for the pieces -and the sturdy box size is ample to to just toss everything in -but it's so beautifully made and designed, so engaging, you'll want to leave it out on the coffee table.

I bought this puzzle for my 5-yr-old niece, and as it turned out, it was fun for the whole family! We liked the fact that there were so many possibilities in terms of designs and that it comes with some suggested designs that are easy to create. It was too challenging for my niece to create the suggested designs on her own, but she will grow into it and she enjoyed making patterns and creating a beautiful design with every attempt. I have two minor complaints about the product one is that I wish there were more little triangles, which would add to the flexibility and possible designs, and the other is that the light and dark green pieces are so close in color that you can hardly tell the difference. Other than that, we loved it and will continue to play with it for days on end. I like the fact that it is made from bamboo and that it comes with lots of extra pieces and a nice canvas bag to hold all the pieces. I'll definitely be giving this as a gift again!

I just got this toy for my son and we love it. It is nice to have a "puzzle" the whole family can do

Honest reviews on Hape - Mosaic Puzzle in Bamboo

We got this puzzle for our five year old daughter and not only does she love to work on it, but so does our whole family. Creating your own beautiful patterns is so satisfying and is a really nice blend of art and geometry practice! My only complaint is that they give way too few triangles.

I echo everything P Geis said, plus the puzzle is excellent for people with dementia. It taps the creativity that may remain intact even with significant cognitive decline. There are no opportunities for mistakes and the end result is colorful and attractive. You can allow as much independence in design as the person can manage. There's enough ease in our puzzle base that adding a new piece can push existing ones a bit out of place if the puzzle is flat. This is frustrating for arthritic hands (but doesn't seem to bother kids). The issue is minimized by using the stake that elevates the puzzle base at about a 30-degree angle, allowing gravity to keep the pieces more secure. Definitely a 5-star product. Makes me want to investigate other Hape offerings.

made of quality material wood.

i like that it does not lay flat.. they added a piece of wood on the back that props it at an angle when you lay it down so its easier for the child look at.

theres so many different stages of learning to this piece. colors, numbers, shapes, and of course learning time. this will be great for years to come. my son is 17 months old now.

My son loves it but gets a little frustrated when he stands the clock upright and all the pieces would fall off.

I like this compared to other clock toys which cost a bit higher from Melissa . One additional advantage in this is you can match colors which you cannot in the other clock toy from the same seller. It helps in introducing time concepts at an age you think is appropriate for your kid. Very useful and value for your money.

It would have been better if it had a stand at the back but this does not affect the functionality or the utility of the toy

I ordered slide set D after much deliberation. I purchased the AmScope 40X-2000X Advanced Home School Student Biological Compound Microscope with Mechanical Stage, Solid Metal Framework and Optical Glass Lenses in January. The 100 slide set D had great variety and seemed a perfect fit for our six year old scientist who is interested in insects and a variety of animals and birds.

The slides arrived in perfect condition and as everyone else says the wooden box they come in is very sturdy and designed well to hold the slides securely. Others commented on a little dust or film. Ours were quite clear and that would not bother me anyway. The price is phenomenal. The slides and the microscope are so superior to the toys sold in our local store that I would not hesitate to purchase another for my other granddaughter. The "real thing" is somewhat more expensive, but will provide a lifetime of knowledge.

This is the second set of slides we purchased as a gift for my father-in-law. We gave him Set A for Christmas and this set for Father's Day. He said they're beautiful and really seems to like them.

Discount Transformers 3 Bumblebee Laptop

Customer Ratings:

This toy is great and so cute. My son puts it on his lap next to his daddy and tells us he is working as he plugs away at the little keyboard. Its educational which is wonderful and is a great aid for us as we are teaching him to read and write. HOWEVER there is no volume control to this toy and its loud. Its like Optimus just woke up, failed to have coffee, got an angry text from Starscream and is now tutoring your child angrily. Its so loud!! As mother, I like toys that have some volume control, first because I have other kids so when nap time occurs, I need quiet play and lastly because I am a mother and sometimes the incessant loud toys make mommy's ears bleed. This toy is really awesome and worth it but its loud. And the screen is really small. It reminds me a little bit of a calculator in a huge briefcase.

This was a gift for a child with special needs. He is responding like crazy! He loves the transformers look, and it makes it so easy for him to learn. He is progressing much faster than we hoped and it looks like he'll truly benefit from this laptop. It's nice to see someone took an interest in creating an educational toy that even a "special" child can use.

This is a fun toy for kids learning words, spelling, etc. It's a good value!

I must confess I did have to troubleshoot it as it didn't turn on at Christmas for my grandson. There was a little oxidation on the battery terminals and I scraped it off with a knife. Then after re-installing the batteries it worked! I told Amazon about what happened and they gave me a bit of a credit on my account. I liked that a lot!

Good price. You can practice with younger children how to treat a computer.

My grandaughter was pleased.

I only wish the screen was a bit bigger. More advance kids should get a touch screen.
