My son is 6 years old, first grade and has a slight learning disability so we work extra hard on his sight words and sounding out letters, he doesn't have a whole lot of patience for it. However he loves star wars and he loves nintendo ds. On a whim I decided to buy the leapster and this game for it hoping that he wouldn't call it a "learning game" and immediately dismiss it. Wowee did I luck out he loves this game, can't play it enough.

The first day he had the game he was frustrated because he didn't know all the words and was running to me asking for help often. I encouraged him to try sounding out the letters and see how he could do. The second day I heard him sounding things out and trying to figure it out on his own. By day three he had mastered the game and was a general oh was he exited and mommy even more so he is consistently reading three and four letter words from the game.

I purchased this for my 5 year old grandson, who is in Kindergarten and just learning to read. He is also an avid Star Wars fan, so I thought this would be a fun way to help him with his basic reading skills. Well, this was the perfect choice because from the moment he opened it, he spentp practically every minute during the remainder of my visit using his Leapster with this game device. I spent some time doing it with him and was happy to see that it did, indeed, help him with his basic reading. All the while, making it FUN! Then his 8 year old sister wanted to play with it, too, so my worries that he would outgrow it too soon were quickly dispelled.

This game is worth it's weight in gold! I got this game for my 5 year old son, and he LOVES it! He enjoys it, because it allows him to feel like he's playing a traditional video game like his Dad's. I love it because he is learning the whole time!

He has come leaps and bounds in the last several weeks that he's been playing it. He has learned nearly all letter sounds, and has begun sounding out words on his own!! I am generally not a fan of video games, but this one is fun and educational!

I got these little trucks in combination with a few other goodies for my 3yo son's firetruck birthday party. These trucks are fabulous! They are plastic, and definitely party favor material, but they are MUCH bigger than I expected, I could've given out just these trucks as favors, they didn't even fit in the goody bags!

The trucks are about 5" long, longer than my hand, they rotate/bend at the joint, and the wheels roll nicely.

Not a super high quality fire truck, but much bigger and better than I expected for a party favor.

I work with children with austism and had a student who pulverized every writing tool we found because of his need to chew and bite down hard. I tried the tubes but would end up with a big drooly mess on the pencil. These chewable shapes are tough enough to handle his bite and he isn't a big drippy mess. We have been able to keep the same pencil since putting on the new toppers.

This is a great product! Gives my child an outlet on "bad" days, without looking like therapy.

The only caveat explain to your child that this isn't an eraser it looks exactly like one. You don't really want your child then putting in their mouth.

My 6 year old daughter will chew off the eraser, metal band, and start chewing through the wood of a pencil if she doesn't have anything better to chew on. We've had these for a few weeks and they've been very helpful. (She also uses another handheld chew stick.) She has managed to chew off a few tiny bits from the star so I don't expect these to last forever. Still, these are very handy to have available and don't look "babyish" in with a 1st grader's school supplies.

We bought this for our daughter about a year ago, and everyone in the house plays with it, her older and younger brothers both, and that means ages 2-5. It's held up beautifully, nothing wrong with it and it's been dragged all over the house (and car), fought over, and wrestled with and it's still going just fine.

As a plus, the mouse pad can either sit on a peg connected to the right side for easy travel stability, but for our left handed daughter, you just move it off the peg and move it on over. This is a huge plus for this system.

I purchased this product for my daughter who is about to turn 2, and she already knows some of her letters! She loves it and packs it around with her everywhere!!! The only problem I had with it, and I guess it's not really not a "problem", probably just a parent thing!, but, even at it's lowest volume setting it's still pretty loud I don't know maybe it's just that monkey, oh that monkey! I like how it goes off by itself so the battery doesn't drain itself...very handy!!

I can't say enough good things about this little computer! I'm gonna be very honest... it took me a while to buy it because (and I hate to say it now) but I just thought the thing looked cheesy (cheap)... But man was I wrong! We've had it a while now and my daughter still plays with it for extended periods. It really is a GREAT toy! It is very educational and helps with hand eye coordination -via its mouse training applications. I only regret having waited so long to buy it -recommend for kids 3 and 4.

Other great features are: it's incredibly durable, you can switch mouse for use on either side and it has an automatic shutoff after about 3 minutes.

Only bad things about it are: it is loud even on lowest setting (as many reviewers have mentioned) and the screen is small (but I dare say there isn't one out there with a bigger screen for this price :-).

Seriously, if your child is 3 to 4 you won't regret buying it.

I bought this for my 3 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas 2008. I am homeschooling her and wanted a tool to help her recognize letters and numbers while having fun. So while she can't yet use many of the games I have to just rave that this is the best product that I've used that allows her to interact AND learn her numbers and letters. It also lets her pretend to be just like mommy while she "works on her computer".

Many people brought up the issue of the volume button and that isn't a problem for us. She knows it gets taken away if she pushes that button and that only Mommy can change the volume.

We use many other things to help with letter recognition but this is by far the most effective and just today we had a blast playing on the laptop!

I am an elementary school teacher. Even though my family has officially banned anymore educational toys from my children's playroom (instead insisting on some "regular" toys), I just couldn't help myself. I love LeapFrog® toys. I have had my eye on the Tag since my oldest son was 2½, but finally at 4½ I feel he is ready for it.

This set includes six books: Long A, Long I, Long O, Long U, Y as a vowel, and a Review book. They are different from regular Tag books in several ways. There are no licensed characters featured in the set (e.g. Dora, Diego, SpongeBob). They are also paperback books. The biggest difference though is the educational substance of this set. With regular Tag books, a child has the option to play games (book-wide or page-wide games), have the entire page read to them (like a Story Reader), to point to the individual word and have it read, or point to any graphic on the page and have it do something. While these books have all of that, this set is additionally designed for TEACHING phonics. Each book page has three modes the child can choose from: Say It (default), Sound It, and Spell It. I will describe each:

' Say It just like regular Tag books, you put the Tag pen on an individual word and it will say it.

' Sound It (or phonics mode) sounds out individual consonants, vowels, or special grouped combinations (like "ea", "ou", "kn", etc) which are too difficult to explain efficiently in this learning format. For example: while running the Tag pen across the name Lily, it would sound out, "Llllll ih lllll eeeee, Lily." You will also hear things like, "this e is silent," and other phonics rules.

' Spell It self-explanatory

What makes this set so unique is the phonics mode. LeapFrog should incorporate it into all of their Tag books. The Long E sound is missing. Long Y could have been incorporated into the Long I book to exaggerate the point of their similarity ("spy" "sky" and "bike" "hike") to make way for a Long E book. Perhaps they left it out because E is not long "stand alone" and needs another vowel to combine with it to sound long ("feat", "bee", "sea", "ear"). Long E still has a functional sound and should be addressed for consistency's sake, especially given that the books include and acknowledge other vowel combos, and especially given that no vowel is long stand-alone without another vowel helper like the silent E (in June, huge, dune, rule, lone, cane) or within a vowel combo like (suit, fruit, bait, loan).

Also, each book does not make a point to EMPHASIZE the vowel sound they are trying to teach other than simply including a lot of words with that sound in the story. In my opinion, it should be exagerrated textually and phonetically so the child can make the connection. Overall though, this is a helpful set, I like it better than regular Tag books, and it WILL help your child.

One problem I personally find with most educational toys is the age rating. Age 4-7 and 5-8 are huge ability gaps (yet these are how the Tag books are age-grouped) and I do not think all books are appropriate within the full range specified. I especially notice this in the Tag Junior books which say they are for 2-4 year olds (which I bought for my 3-year-old and some of the books are appropriate for my 15-month old!). While the Tag Reader and Tag Junior reader are appropriate for the ages specified, Tag books should be more precisely age-rated perhaps 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8. Some Tag books are way over a 4or 5-year-old's head and some of the books are not challenging enough for 7to 8-year-olds. I bought some books for my 4½ year old that he enjoys listening to but cannot fully utilize yet, which is disappointing.

Unlike me, read up on the book content before buying and that should ensure you spend your hard-earned dollars on what your child will use NOW and not something that will be used in a year or two! Amazon, Wal-mart, and Toys-R-Us reviews are very helpful in this. HTH!

Excellent value for money. This set is currently not sold in the UK and I've had to purchase it through family in the States. A shame really as the books have allowed my daughter to excel in her reading skills in a very short space of time. I thereafter went on to buy the Long Vowels series and other Leapfrog Tag books and games. Excellent products for an enthusiastic child you loves learning. Would definitely recommend.

I bought these for my son who is learning how to read. He likes the book and "reads" them regularly with his leapfrog pen. They are paperback so I would recommend taking care of them and buying a hard case to store them in (we bought the leapfrog case that holds a lot of books and has a slot for the reader pen) or they may be damaged. These along with hooked on phonics seem to really be helping my child to read and he enjoys the freedom of being able to learn from them without an adult being there. If you have the reading pen and get these for a decent price they are worth the investment.

My son enjoys all of his LeapFrog products but I think he enjoys this best because he is recognizing his site words, learning the beginning and end of sentences, etc. All requirements for kindergarten in our area. Once again, LeapFrog gets an A+ in our household.

My 3 year old loves this book, but I think that's mostly because he like Mater.

This book has some VERY bad content and lesson. We were very disappointed at some of the concepts that are in this book that are presented without significant resolution including peer pressure, taunting, etc.

There are much better Leapfrog books to buy than this one.

This is a wonderful Tag book for the Cars lover. My 4-year-old received the Tag system and this book for his birthday in July. He absolutely loves it!

He's read it so much that as soon as he turns the page, he shouts out "Frank's coming!" or makes the sound effects of the characters. He tells me what's happening before even putting the pen to the book now. And I can see improvement by hooking the pen up to my computer it tells you which questions he answered correctly and how long he's read the book.

My son loves everything Cars, so this was a great fit.

I would suggest having a talk with your child about how to treat books before leaving him/her alone to play. We did have one casualty a ripped page. But now I've talked to my son about how to care for books and I'm hoping the rest of the pages stay in tact.

I would definitely recommend this book if you have the Tag Reader system.

He said the reason why he likes this book is because Mater and Lightening McQueen did tractor tipping and made all the tractors tipped over. My son thinks it is funny. This storyline encouraged children to be kind of naughty and that they can get away with it. I didn't really liked the story but my son loves the story. The games in the book were fun and educational which was the only positive thing about this book.

Great for kids who need incentive in the form of their favorite characters in order to read.

The Tag function is a helpful teaching tool. Anything geared at this age group has to be durable, though.
