You can only move the arrows in one direction which makes jumping around to different times to "test" or play guess the time games is difficult. You cannot quickly go from 2:00 to 11:45 to test your child's knowledge of telling time. You have to move the minute hand around, and around , and around, and around............It's a long way to 11:45 that way. I think the description might even tell you this but I didn't realize exactly what that meant until it was here. ex. Good quality product though, just not exactly what I needed for my children.

This is a great item, large and fun for children. The numbers are foam and the middle piece plastic. As the minute hand it turned, the hour hand also rotates making telling time easier to demonstrate.

As an early elementary teacher, I know how difficult it can be for younger students (and some older students as well) to grasp the skill for telling time. They can tell time when looking at the "how to" we write together but have difficulty remembering it on their own. What hand goes with what number, etc.

The reason I love this clock is because of the different color of the hands. It may sound silly, but the short hand 'red' goes to the red numbers and you can write the blue numbers (5,10, 15...) for the minute hand (beyond the hour numbers) and those hands will color coordinate making it easier for children to tell time.

I did see another reviewer write that they did not like that the hands only go in one direction (like a real clock would). I look at that as an asset. Students are able to see that one revolution of the blue minute hand points the red hand to a new hour.

If you want to quiz students quickly, you could use flash cards, little Judy Clocks or homemade clocks with plates and paper brads.

I think this is an excellent teaching tool and I highly recommend it for any teacher who is teaching students how to tell time.

This is a fabulous clock to have on your board for instruction. The clock hands have a very strong magnet, so it will not move from placement. The kids prefer this to the older clock manipulatives used in instruction and it allows you to make the clock as big or little as needed (bigger so you can make marks for the minutes or smaller for advanced practice). I definitely recommend this purchase!
