It's just the right level of complexity, but for a starter solder kit, it's too tiny. The distances between connectors are as little as 1mm, leaving absolutely no room for error which is fine for someone experienced with soldering, but not so much for the novice. The fact that no extra parts are provided compounds the problem. If the same kit was scaled up in size, with greater distances between the connectors, it would have been much more novice-friendly.
My son and I worked on this, plugged in a fresh battery, and no lights are blinking. We have no idea why. We have no idea how to figure it out. Hopefully, this failure will not discourage him from future projects. This product was used to teach young kids ages 8-13 the basics of soldering and providing a basic understanding of electronics. Some of these kids had already passed their ham radio exam and hold a Technician Class Amateur Radio license. To have a simple project that works when finished helped aid in the overall success.
