This is truly a beautifully made toy. The vibrant colors, workmanship, and durability were all evident when I first unwrapped it. My almost 2-year old daughter is still too young for the stated age range (3 yrs and up), but she is still drawn to this toy. She is starting to mimic counting and calling out numbers, so we thought this abacus would be a fun way to reinforce her interest in counting.

I am becoming a big fan of Hape toys because of their use of water-based paints on wood, unlike other toy companies that use chemical-based paints. This is not the type of toy that your child will put in his or her mouth, but I still feel better choosing "safer" toys that my child will be touching. I wanted to give this toy 5 stars, but I noticed from reading the product box that this toy is made in China. I just have to trust that Hape does quality control and that their China factory upholds its environmental standards. But because of the misgivings I felt, I had to knock off 1 star for now.

I got this for my 4 year old daughter. She loves that she can count to 100 now by using the abacus! The abacus itself is beautiful and nicely made of wood, not plastic.

My daughter uses this quite a bit and is learning how to visually see the numbers working in her workbooks. She will be starting 1st grade this year and can do many basic addition and subtraction problems using this. The quality and good and the color is beautiful.

My 2 year old daughter loves playing with this abacus. It's helped her learn to count to one hundred. She has also learned to count by tens up to one hundred using it. It is well-made, sturdy, brightly colored, and seems like it will last long enough for her younger siblings to use as well. The color on the beads is well applied and won't flake off over time.

Well made my daughter won't break it easily. She uses it the colors are attractive for a young child.

We use this to practice counting she has no problem using the abacus and it is very simply organized

with 10 per row ten rows. This enables her to recount if she miscounts since each row must end in a ten.

Very helpful product.
