We bought these for our 9 month old daughter. They are a little beyond her for building, of course, but she likes the colors, shapes, textures, and unique features like the bell and prism. The whole family thought they were the neatest blockes they had ever seen. I hope to add another set when she gets old enough to build with them. They are perfect for her two favorite games, "chew on things" and "take things out of the basket." They seem to be excellent quality and hold up well to her chewing. Even the transparent plastic that contains the pearls seems to be sturdy. While I don't believe that any of the pieces as a whole are small enough to choke on, some of them would not pass the "toilet paper roll" test so I would recommend using these with supervision for a smaller child.
Update it has now been 2 years since my prior review and we still play with these blocks. My daughter likes to build with them now, and I like that they have some odd angles that kind of challenge her. She does not play with them daily but they do see regular use and still look great no paint chipping or pieces coming off.

i bought a ton of these haba block sets because they are seriously the most beautiful blocks i have ever seen in my entire life. the paint is extremely durable. no chipping. bright and vibrant we love these blocks

My older niece loves the blocks, but they were intended for her little sister, who had a lot of fun pushing around the box they came in. Oh, well. *I* liked them and thought they were really cool. So did a couple other adults. They're actually beautiful; the colors, shapes and designs are original, and the blocks are very well made. I'm sure my nieces don't give a hoot about the quality, but the blocks definitely create possibilities for their little imaginations.

These blocks are really colorful and fun. The different shapes make creating towers super interesting. My son got them for his first birthday and all he did was chew on them, but now he's almost two and loves stacking them. We keep these in a bowl on our kitchen table and adults even like to play with them when we're just hanging out. Love these and plan to order more Haba blocks!!

We have both these & the Sevilla set. We love both & intend to buy more sets to add to our collection. You don't get many blocks for your money but they are very interesting, if not a little out there, & great quality. They've been thrown, dropped & chewed on and are keeping pace with the kids.
