This was the perfect gift for my 8 year old daughter. She could read the instructions herself and loves trying out the safe but fun activites. The activity book is full of neat ideas.

I can't wait to try out more activities with her.

We wanted to get our son something that had a bit of educational value in addition to all the Baku-gan stuff he was asking for. This chem set fit the bill nicely. There are some things that go off right away, like the volcano, and there are others that take some time and patience, like the crystals. I thought some of the instructions could have been a little more thorough and some of the parts feel a bit cheap, but this is an economical chem set that I think most kids (and their parents) would probably enjoy. Another nice thing is that, for the most part, the ingredients are easily replaceable.

The product itself is fine, and worth the price.

However, don't get it from Ramsey's, or any other dealer, that charges shipping. Ramsey's shipping charge was an additional 40% over the $25 price tag of the product. Shop around, and you'll find it for $25 with free shipping.

Unfortunately, I had saved it in my cart for shopping around, and my wife accidentally checked out, not realizing it was only in there as a place holder for comparison shopping. By the time I found out a couple of days later, it had already shipped (to Ramsey's credit, at least they process and ship quickly).

Still, with nearly five weeks of shopping and shipping time, there was no reason to pay for excessive shipping charges.
