I bought this for my daughter who is just turning four. She loves it, and so do I. My daughter has a lot of fun with this toy and as a teacher I am amazed by all that she is learning from the Learn to Read Desk. It teaches phonics, rhyming, and listening skills. The desk has a volume control which more toys should have. The cards are stored in the desk. This is a great buy for children 3 to 6.Best Deals for Learn to Read Desk
This is a newer version of the toy, and is excellent. Easy for my 3 year old to figure out, and doubles as an alphabet upper case puzzle that talks out each letter. The cards store neatly inside, but it would have been nice if they had spots to store the three additional letter/combos on top as well. My son really enjoys the music and rhyme buttons. He approaches each card as a puzzle to fill in with the appropriate shape. So far he knows only a few of the alphabets by name and sight(the ones in his name)There is room to store at least one additional lesson card set without bending the cards as well as the additional letters inside. You can buy each card set directly from leapfrog for twelve plus shipping if you can't find it at a store. If it did stop working in 15 min which it has not done for me, I would suggest checking batteries, I found that lights and sound eat up quite a bit of battery life, and our leap frog toys are not particularly battery efficient. He also really loved his cousins Phonics writing desk, so do look at that.
Honest reviews on Learn to Read Desk
Actually I own the earlier version of this product, but essentially it is the same.USED this product to teach my first daughter to read at 3, she is now 11 and a fantastic reader. If you're into teaching your children early then this item is highly recommended. I am very happy Leap Frog has re-introduced it.
THE TOY works progressively, depress the colorful letters and hear them spoken, insert a card and hear the letters spoken then pronounced, the letters can be inserted into the letter cut outs and hear them pronounced and then the word pronounced when completed. This way the child can first learn the alphabet then phonic pronunciation.
CAUTION, this product will not stand on its own, you must devote time and have patience with your child. My daughter enjoyed it initially, then lost interest as most children do with toys. However I kept at it, reading nightly stories and periodically re-introducing the toy to her. After about 6 months she really got into it and was reading simple books on her own after a year.
LEAP FROG succeeded all too well. The results were so fantastic, no further purchases of Leap Frog or any other reading toy was necessary... I simply kept buying more books. The toy may be a little clunky but it was the only phonics toy I needed to purchase.
ADVICE... buy this one, share it with your child , keep at it, be patient, maybe buy a few of the expansion card kits and enjoy as you child blossoms into a reader.
PS... One of the letters got lost, a quick call to 1-800-701-LEAP and the replaced it for free. BRAVO to DTHOMPSON189 for that bit of information
