I bought this for my son who is a young 2. He's a very busy little boy and gets bored easily of most toys. This set was easy to assemble, seems pretty durable, and is really cute. My son engaged in it quickly and has played with this toy longer than I've ever seen him play with any of his others.
As another reviewer wrote, there is a hill that requires you to hand crank my son picked up on this pretty quickly and it has added that much more interest to his play. The way the the track configures you can choose to send the train up the hill or under the tunnel, so if your child can't hand crank yet, don't worry they can still use this toy and have time to grow into it.
My son loves that the train moves on it's own, it's different than the other push trains he has. He does at times try to push it, it's held up so far, but I hope this doesn't break it. The other Go Go Smart Wheels sets can attach to this set, and there are lots of different ways to assemble for lots of variation and fun!
The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 (really minimal in the scheme of things) is that the track configurations are kind of tricky. They give you a cheat sheet on how and where pieces go. At this point I can't use all the pieces without using their sheet. Now the dilemma we have is that the sheet has been misplaced. In my chaotic world of a 2 year old, this seems to happen a lot you think I would have figured out a better system or safer place by now, but I haven't. I went to V-tech's site but can't find a downloadable manual online. I did email them so I'm hoping that I will get another chance to find a safer home for this guide and prove myself responsible.
My only other complaint (again minimal, but the real reason for 4 stars) is that the track comes with a number of pieces open on 4 sides. You use these to connect track pieces that might otherwise not fit together, and to make cross sections. The problem is that when these go on a corner (common placement) the train runs off them. As a fix V-tech includes a piece that snaps on and redirects the train saving the day. They really needed to include 2 of these pieces. The train can't use half of the route you see configured on the box because it would need 2 of these pieces to stay on the track. Same story for some of the other configurations. It seems like such an easy thing on additional piece would offer lots of extra play options. None of the other play sets I've seen come with this piece and you can't order an extra online. I did email and ask if I could purchase one. I'm not expecting that I can, but it never hurts to ask!

I think my 2-year-old had the most fun with the Vtech Go! Go! Smart Wheels Train Station. Where my 5-year-old was all about building the track and putting it together, my 2-year-old wanted to watch the train go around the track. She like watching the lights and listening to the train talk. She loved to help the train up the hill. She sat forever watching it go around and around and then helped it up the hill. She like to make the gates go up and down. When the train would hit the gate it would tell her to lift the gate and that is what she did.Of course the baby loved the track, but he is still a bit young for it. He like taking it apart and putting the track right into his mouth. The track parts are nice and big and built well enough that I wasn't worried about him playing with his older siblings. We just made sure to keep the train away from him since it had smaller wheels. The buttons are nice and large. The kids loved to listen to the clock tower. I kinda wish I had a mute button :) But I am glad that they enjoyed it so much!
Having a toy that all three kids could play with at once is great! It's nice as a mom that there is a toy they can play with that I don't have to say "Don't let your bother get that" or " You all need to share or I'm taking it away" The track was big enough that they were all able to sit around it and have a good time. Because there are so many different ways to build this track, they never get bored with it. It's fun trying a new set up and playing with little figures around the track.

We had high hopes for this toy. It seemed to have every thing we thought our 24 month old son wanted. He had the wooden tracks at daycare so we wanted to try these because it had lights, bells, and it was motorized. It was easy to put together and we even bought an extra car to go on the track. BTW, the extra car is not motorized for the track. The main reason we had to take it back was that our son kept trying to push the cars around the track and they would not function in that manner. Also, it has a hill that requires the child to hand crank the car up the hill. My son was not coordinated enough to work it so we had to do it for him. He became frustrated with it fairly quickly. We were disappointed that this didn't work as we really thought it looked fun. This might work better for an older child or one who hasn't already been exposed to the push trains.Honest reviews on VTech Go! Go! Smart Wheels - Train Station Playset
We received this train set a few weeks ago. I have a 3 year old daughter, and I wasn't sure if she would enjoy it or not. Fortunately she does ALOT! If you have kids you know there are some toys you buy that you think they'll just love and play with it for a long time, but most of the time it doesn't happen that way? Well, that's been my experience with all of my kids. Anyway, this train set provides so many different ways for the child to interact and learn that it keeps my daughter busy with it for long periods of time...at a time. There hasn't been one morning since we got this that she doesn't ask to get her train set out.The pieces are big and easy for her to snap together on her own, as they kind of fit like a jigsaw puzzle. There is a paper that comes with this that shows 5 or 6 different ways to put the train set together form more simple to more complex. Even on mornings that she is too impatient to wait for me or her Daddy to help her put it together, she will get her set out anyway, and if nothing else, she'll make a straight track and play with it just the same. She LOVES turning the handle that turns a belt to pull the train up an incline, and she also loves to manually raise and drop the train crossing bars.
To see my whole review with pictures (I'm also hosting a giveaway sponsored from VTech on my blog for one of these that ends at midnight on 9-25-13) head over to http://holyjeansnmyfavoritethings.blogspot.com/2013/09/vtech-go-go-smart-wheels-train-station.html and check it out! If you're considering purchasing one of these, whatever child will be the recipient will love this set. It can also grow with the other compatible tracks that you can find at the stores or here on Amazon. I would recommend this for ages 2-5. Oh and one more note, I would recommend purchasing rechargeable batteries for the little train engine as it does drain the batteries fairly quickly for a small toy. Don't even bother trying to use cheap batteries on it, because it won't run good and the batteries will drain within about 30 minutes.

It is hard to find toys that both my boys can play with and not have to worry for my youngest safety. I am also big on toys that teach and interact. When I was asked to review this toy set I thought it would be just like any other train set. I was so wrong. It didn't need me to do anything but take it out the box and put batteries in for them. I used the paper that came with to set it up just like the photo on the box but in no time they had taken apart and put it together the way they wanted. I love that it gets them to fine tune their motor skills. there are track pieces that have sensors made in them that make the train sing and talk. The train station has buttons to change the languages so they learn new ones as they play. One really cool thing is you can get another Go! Go! cars and sets they all connect together and work with any of the cars or sets. Oak the baby loves the train so much he wants to take it with him. You can turn it to the setting to play without the track or self push on track. This setting still work on the track but your child pushes it on their own. The sensors will still work the same it just doesn't roll on its own. We love this setting for road trips and when we can get the full set out due to company. As he pushes it still plays its songs and talks. I have even already planed to buy more cars and sets. This toy is the kids favourite and they fight over the train. If it keeps my kids busy and learning I love it. As a single mom I have my hands full this toy has been a big help. It is one tough toy too. It has taken a beaten from the kids and still works. I have to say Vtech really knows kids and this toy is well worth what you pay for it.Here is more info:
