My grandson broke one of the shark's teeth as he was removing it so be careful when you are digging. I warned him but he was so excited that he couldn't help himself. Sadly we only found two shark's teeth and he broke down the entire Megalodon's tooth in the process. It was a lot of hard work but he truly enjoyed it and told me to rate it a 4 star product. He is the best judge of how much he enjoyed it so that is what I went with.
Overall this is an excellent learning tool for your child and it is good for several hours of learning and fun. Digging in the Megalodon cast tooth is hard and my grandson worked at it carefully and finally it wore him out. It was a great learning tool and he also learned that being a scientist is not such easy work. I hope the video is helpful to you.

If your child is into sharks, they will likely enjoy this kit, since it includes three different sharks teeth, a book about sharks and an adventure book. However, this particular kit did not hold my granddaughter's attention in the same way as the gemstone and geode kits.She did love the huge imitation shark's tooth, the plaster casing in which the real ones were to be found. She also loved the magnifying glass, we have since ordered her a larger one, since she now wants to look at everything using it.
Her Mom helped her with this kit, using the provided excavating tool. Even though she was carefully digging, the first tooth she found broke when she tried to dig it out. To keep the others safe, she used the soak method, placing the plaster in water to let it dissolve.
Because of this, I do recommend this particular kit for kids on the older end of the spectrum in addition to kids who love sharks.

The Shark Tooth Dig kit includes three shark teeth encased in plaster molded in the shape of a shark tooth, one tool for digging into the plaster, one brush, one plastic magnifying glass, a booklet about sharks, and an activity booklet.The instructions advise the children to do this on a piece of newspaper. I have one thing to add: do it outside. It is a very messy project. My son was covered in plaster dust when he was done and had to go take a shower.
Digging with the tool is slow going. I was impressed with my son's patience. Your child will need lots of patience for this kit. I tried digging in the plaster myself and it is tiring.
What my son ended up doing is digging into the point of the plaster tooth instead of its root. There, he found all three shark teeth. I suspect that's where the shark teeth will be in all the other shark teeth kits. If you have young children who might easily give up, try starting at that end.
One of the shark teeth broke as my son tried to free it, so be careful when you see the teeth. Don't use too much force. Dig gently.
We found a sand tiger shark tooth, a crow shark tooth, and an "Otudus obliquus" shark tooth. Both the crow shark and the Otodus are extinct, so my son was very excited about that. He has another shark tooth given to him by a family friend which is larger but looks exactly like the Otudus. It gave him a thrill to finally identify that mystery shark tooth.
The booklet is short but very informative. It has brief descriptions about the three sharks the teeth in the kit came from, a little bit about the role of sharks in the ecosystem and the threats they face from man.
The activity booklet is filled with all sorts of puzzles (crossword, word search, hidden pictures, etc.) relating to sharks.
My son rates this kit four stars. He was frustrated with the amount of work it took to get to the teeth, but he was happy with the results and he enjoyed the booklet. He learned quite a bit from it.
