The finish on the guitar is acceptable with some rough spots here and there.
I replaced the nylon strings with a set of 10-46 metal acoustic strings and the sound is much
better. Oil the gears a little as the steel to brass will bind a little and make turning the tuners
a bit hard if not oiled.
You may have to dress the fret ends with some sandpaper a bit.
All of the J. Reynolds come with a gig bag and this is not called out; it is cheap, but has a
handle and keeps the dust out if you really care about this with this low end guitar.
I got the guitar to just keep close by for those (now just exactly how does that song go) moments
when I don't want to drag out a nice guitar just to here a couple of chords.
I am used to electric guitars so I like the 3/4 size acoustics when I go to an acoustic.
I have the full sized dreadnoughts, and semi and full hollows, but the bouts are large on all of these guitars and while I do play them, I do so when I am ready for an hour or two at minimum.
The guitar would be great for a beginner, but I would (as mentioned) replace the nylon strings with metal.
You could just get the metal string version with tuners out the sides of the head for a few more dollars.
I just wanted this old style.
The shipping was Very Fast (three days).
Finally, the guitar sounds like a 3/4 guitar; you will NEVER get a full sized sound out of these guitars, and you are kidding yourself if you think spending $300.00 or more will get you something that sounds like a full sized (39" or more) acoustic guitar.
