In the five minutes I had trying to get it to work, nothing happened. It wasn't the sunniest day outside, but neither was it cloudy. I had it in the window. But nothing happened. It is easy to put together, so I don't think that was the problem. Don't let my problems dissuade you totally, but if you are giving it as a gift (as I was) I suggest you put it together first to see if it works.

This is a very cool looking wind turbine, but the solar panel did not work well indoors. It said it could be charged under certain light bulbs, but the light I had were just too far away from where the turbine was placed so it didn't quite work out for me
