The pros

use of satellite imagery gives a real view of Earth

decent size

glow-in-the-dark dots for cites are pretty cool, if you can manage to get them all to shine

The cons

inclusion of clouds obscures far too much of the surface how can you use a globe when the features have been covered up?

seams between the six sections are on the exterior, pointing out, which both looks nasty & cheap and makes it harder to use

valve doesn't seal properly inside, so air leaks out mightily every time you try to take a breath while inflating

printing quality is pretty poor, with the surface appearing as an array of dots, like in a cheap newspaper image

the structure never really smooths out to a proper sphere, despite the advertising pictures. The six panels that make up the ball are each flat, so the whole thing is a big hexagon when inflated, not a smooth sphere

Cheap manufacturing in China and cheap specifications from the manufacturer seem to be to blame for the production issues. They need to upgrade the way it's assembled and the way it's printed, improve the valve, and remove the clouds. Then it would be really great. As it is, it's simply *meh*.

Left in the window, this ball hasn't glown yet; and the image quality is far less than par. However, it's a nice token of our planet; a reminder of our residence inside.

Purchased to help me draft an accurate quilt pattern for the Western Hemisphere. It gives you an astronaut's view of the earth and a new appreciation of the beauty of our planet. The entire family enjoyed surrounding it with lights, then running into a darkened room to see how earth looks at night. How welcoming! Although, we use too much power! A great learning tool!

Beach ball design 16 inches round. Comes with fun booklet of suggestions with games and earth trivia activities. It is large enough to be seen from a distance. Suspend it by hanging from a string for floating effect. (Too heavy for helium to lift.)

Reservations:

Have not tested florescent paint, and do not know if it is the same stuff that was banned for use in clocks due to radiation content.

I bought this for my 4 year old granddaughter and she loved it. When we skyped, shortly after I had sent it to her, she ran and got it. pointing out where she lived, we lived, her aunts lived and where I had gone on vacation. Her Mom said it was also pretty sturdy she can lean and flop on it and she also loves to play with it by the pool.

I then bought one for my two year old granddaughter and it was just as much a hit. Her mother loved it because it reminded her of a similar ball she had and enjoyed as a child.I will note that her parents opted to leave it at my house because there is more play area it is quite large.

Well worth it.
