We always take my daughter shopping for her own presents because we never know what she will like. She picked this one and didn't put it down the entire time we were in the store (at 11 months old). We took the music cards out so they wouldn't get lost and she was really too young to learn from them anyway. She is almost 2 years old now and she still loves this toy! My favorite part is that it's small so we can take it in the car, and it has an on/off switch on the bottom to keep it from getting pressed unintentionally. She loves that when she presses a pedal, an animal pops out!
i only have 1 problem with it. As a musical person, I should've noticed that it didn't have a full octave (8 notes) when I picked it up. It only has 6 notes, which means that I cannot teach my daughter much about music later using this toy. But by then I will probably get her a full-size piano keyboard, so that won't be a problem.
It's been almost a year and we haven't had to change the batteries. The sound is more like an organ pedal than a piano key, which doesn't bother me. I have been surprised to find that the sound wasn't one I couldn't tolerate if she pressed the same note 50 times. I never get tired of hearing her play with it, even in the car with 2 other children. My 7 and 9 year-olds pick it up to play with it sometimes, which is another reason I would like for it to have at least 8 notes.
All in all, it's a great toy! I think sometimes simple is better, and my daughter doesn't like toys that play a song to her; she'd rather play one herself! I doesn't have any flashing lights or other toys, but I think that's why she likes it so much. I never have to worry that she's getting over-stimulated. I think a toy is something to entertain yourself, not have it entertain you and this toy fits that perfectly.
