Product meets all our expectations :) Sturdy construction and good clear views with a decent wide-field of view. Bought a mechanical stage for the product after the purchase.... with higher powers, moving the slide manually is troublesome. Also purchased some prepared slides and blank slides (blank slides are a must). Opened up a new world for my son... he's very pleased.
The same version of this microscope is also sold with a 10x (read 10-power) and 15x eyepiece. By multiplying the power of the eyepiece by the power of the objective lens, the 10x eyepiece when used with the 4x, 10x, 40x and 100x object lenses produces viewing powers of 40, 100, 400 and 400; respectively. The 15x eyepiece produces viewing powers of 60, 150, 600 and 1,500. However, the 100x objective lens is an oil immersion lens and while it produces outstanding views, its might be a little advanced or inconvenient for the casual viewer. Oil immersion (the oil is provided with the package) requires a drop of oil to be placed between the objective lens and the item you are viewing; thus, you are looking through the oil while viewing. The 400 and 1,500 power views with the before-mentioned competing package requires oil immersion leaving non-oil immersed viewing powers of 40, 60, 100, 150, 400 and 600.
Generally, most casual viewers will work do most of their work with lower powers (bugs, pond ameoba and the like) and having a 600 power view is more than adequate for viewing blood cells and many types of bacteria.
This microscope package provides 10x and 25x eyepieces providing non-oil immersion viewing powers of 40, 100, 250, 400 and 1,000. Using the 25x eyepiece, an effective viewing power of 1,000 can be obtained without using oil immersion, which is superior when viewing smaller bacterias. Oil immersion viewing is not difficult, it's just that its a little messy and will require an objective lens clean-up after using. Most casual viewers will not have the patience... it takes a bit of concentration when focusing to keep the oil between the specimen and objective lens.
If you so desire, you can always purchase a 15x eyepiece separately (about $30). My son and I perhaps do most of our viewing using the lower powers (40 to 400). We are also using a 32mm focal length wide-angle "telescope" eyepiece with the microscope, which produces about 30 power when using the 4x objective. This lower power is better for viewing stamps, coins, etc. Fortunately, the "telescope" eyepiece fits nicely around the outside of the microscope barrel (telescope and microscope eyepieces have different diameter barrels).
The added plus for this package is the camera, which is a nice addition for still shots and video. The camera has an effective microscope eyepiece power of 16.
With the additional of the mechanical stage (about $19), this is a complete setup and there are no cons or complaints regarding this package. You'll need to get some stain (about $6) for bacteria viewing. Go to youtube for examples of how to make stained specimen slides.
For our purposes, I think the eyepiece selection in this package is superior overall for the casual viewer. The setup will serve my son well while in junior high school through college. I'm very impressed with the quality of the AmScope microscope given the price.

I suppose one can't really expect anything spectacular for $180, although according to the marketing ploy it's price is $900 which is totally absurd for something of such average quality. Worst thing is the teeny little screw which holds the eyepiece housing. It is situated on the underside of the housing tube and has a very short thread' so after half a turn it fell out and bounced away never to been seen again unless you have a smart floor cleaning robot with microscopic vision. Lacking the screw, it is almost impossible to get the camera to stay put or even the right way up.
