I almost didn't buy this, because it looked kind of old-school and some of the reviews didn't sound so good. But, I am so glad I purchased it anyhow! My 7 year old loves it and is willing to do extra homework just for a chance to play. I sat with him as he played it and, as a teacher, I think these games are perfect for strengthening students' critical thinking skills. There just isn't much time for this training in a normal school day, so this is great for at home practice. Children need these skills to do well with the new way math is being taught in schools cognitively guided instruction. Kids need to be able to think of the quickest, easiest way to solve a problem, and to see problems from many angles. This program will help build those skills.

The main product's focus is to develop the critical thinking skills, which I think is being done by the company and the product. However, the software needs to improve. First, the program requires its CD-ROM to be in the drive each and every time it is played, which is inconvenient and slows down the system. Second, the voice of the teacher on the CD-ROM is dull, very slow and monotone. Third, the method chosen for answering the questions takes too long. One has to wait for the choice to appear on the screen to click it. Lastly, if one provides a wrong answer, there is no explanation provided, as far as I can tell. Perhaps the seller was right when he encouraged me to buy the book instead. I am told that some of these types of books are better than CD-ROMs.
