I use two of these in a troublesome spot in my house to hold a curtain pole, where there's no other way to hang it up but there is a magnetized cross-beam. Awesome magnet, and the ring makes it kind of magical in variety of uses.

This magnet requires a lot of effort to pull off of a refrigerator. It will hold firmly through several dozen sheets of paper. The ring makes it easier to pull off when you want to. It is too strong for small children to pull off (good for us.) We have three of them, in addition to various weaker magnets.
