When we pulled out Race to the Treasure to play my boys were very interested in this game. It held my 3 year old's attention through the whole first time through the game, a major feat for my 3 year old! My 5 year old and I went on to play a total of 5 games in a row we were having so much fun! The games are pretty quick and are different every time which makes it fun to play the game a few times back to back. I loved that my 5 year old was learning about how to count on a grid while busy playing. The only thing I would say is that we won every time we played and it would be nice to have a variant that makes the game a bit harder once you know how to play like is offered in some of the other Peaceable Kingdom games. We loved the game and the pieces and board are very vibrant and well made.Disclosure: I received this game for free to review on my website A Mom's Take Reviews & Giveaways. I bought this game as a present for my five year old cousin. I played it numerous times during my visit with her, and it is an enjoyable game. It is clearly very simplistic, and has the propensity to get old after several rounds, but I think the same can likely be said for most games targeted at this age group. It is nice to play a cooperative game, especially with competitive kids. My one main quibble is that it would be nice if there were variations provided. I'd definitely recommend this game, and I will likely purchase games by the same creator as gifts.Honest reviews on Peaceable Kingdom / Race to the Treasure Cooperative Board Game
We play this game with our 7 and 5 year old. They absolutely love it! It is a simple game, with simple rules and it moves quickly, which is great because it keeps everyone's attention. I love that it is a "thinking" game and allows for options with each card that is played (there are multiple ways to lay the piece to create the path to the end). My favorite thing is telling the kiddos that the goal of the game is for everyone to work together to get the keys and beat the Ogre. A lot of other games have everyone trying to be the 1st and with younger kiddos the games never end with everyone happy like with the Race to the Treasure! If we have friends come over, my kiddos love to pull this game out to play and they can teach their friends to play with very little help from us. I have noticed that the age recommendations are pretty accurate. Friends who are under 5 who try to play seem to loose interest in playing quickly.
We recommend this game!
