My 3 year old enjoys this. I don't have to force him to try it. He will bring it to me and we will play with it correctly for a few minutes, then start just trying to get the dog to talk. My 3 year old just turned 3 no even a month ago, so i don't expect him to focus on the project for long periods of time. We started when he was about 2 1/2 and each learning session is getting longer.

Hot Dots Jr. is perfect for teaching a young child their Alphabet, Numbers, Shapes, Colors etc. Not only does it teach it is fun! Ace the talking pen has several sounds he makes when your child is right, along with sounds when they give an incorrect answer. My 3YO son received this as a gift, and liked it immediately. He was quick to learn that you touch the circle next to the item, and he's had fun sorting through which of the cards he can do right away and find success. I like that the starter set came with plenty of cards to reinforce school learning as he gets older, and that the volume can be turned off for playing in a restaurant or airplane.

My children loved playing with their Hot Dots! They are 3 and 5, and I would take it out of the closet every day for them to play with. My only complaint is that the cards bend up really easily while my kids are trying to switch between them. They haven't gotten to play with them much recently because both hot dots pins quit working within 3 months of owning them.

My grandson has just turned 3 so we have been working with the color cards. He will stick with the task for a few minutes then just touches random places to hear what the dog will say. I think he will continue to enjoy this product as his attention span improves and he understands the positive reinforcement from the dog.
