I had to ask a friend of mine how it works, as I had never used one before. Apparently the point is to hold handles, open your arms and keep the ball from sliding over to your side. I tried it with an adult, it worked great, in fact a good little workout. I tried it with my kid, completely pointless. She's short, I'm not the whole uneven thing didn't work all that well. Her friend from down the street tried it with her it after I showed them how to use it, it just frustrated them both. Ages of the kids are 6 and 3 1/2.

The toy is rugged and it's fun to zoom the football thingy back and forth. It's good motor training because it needs some coordination and timing between both hands.
