I purchased this for my daughter who is almost six and she had a blast with it. She has always loved collecting rocks and gemstones and has quite a collection. Wonderful gift that will provide hours of fun digging up the gems. The only bad thing I can say about it is it would be nice if it contained a sheet so you could identify the gems. But it gives us another project to do looking them up on the internet and finding out what they are. Was recieved in two days and is exactly as described. Now she has beautiful stones to treasure and keep!

The rocks/crystals were much larger than I expected and really beautiful. My 6-year old LOVED this...and so did I. I would give it 6 stars if I could!

My eight year old boy loved this item. If your child likes to dig in the dirt or likes rocks, this is a good item to try for a special treat. Unfortunately once the dig is done, the rocks are exposed and it's all over. However, he gets to keep the rocks and crystals which are nice pieces and can provide some educational value if an adult takes an interest.

My daughter loved this gift. Like many young girls, she's obsessed with collecting rocks, and she daydreams of being a paleontologist. So, being able to dig out her own rocks was fabulous. Be aware that what you are getting for your $12 is nothing more than a hunk of dirt with five small rocks buried inside, a small wooden pick for digging, and a small brush. The only thing that the child will keep after the experience (which took my daughter less than two hours total) are the rocks, if they don't lose them, which of course mine did (all but one). They are quite nice rocks, but you could probably buy some similar nice little rocks for 75 cents each at a nature center, bury them in the garden, and give your child a similar experience for less than a third of the price.

I ordered this for a homeschool project because my boys were interested in gemstones, crystals and rocks. We had a blast excavating and now the boys carry the gems around in their pockets.

I'd recommend this over TV any day of the week. It's fun and a great learning tool.
