Not actually maracas these have a high pitched sound. It is apparently small metal balls in plastic. Sound like other "eggs" that do not have handles, just easier to hold.

I direct a seniors choir (average age: 87), and we perform a few pieces that call for "noise" of various types. I use these in conjunction with other percussion instruments, and they're quite popular among the singers. Easy to hold, they make a nice loud "shaker" sound without a lot of effort.

My baby loves these, and so do any friends that come over to play! They are well made and it is a joy to watch our 9 month old shaking them along to my off key singing.

I use these and a number of other percussion tools to add to the music and have fun with friends and when we get together with the grand kids. these have a pretty good sound and the price could not be beaten as an Amazon add on.

I am picky about sound quality and these maracas really fill the bill. The sound is smooth, not harsh like so many cheap maracas. I heard nothing metalic in the sound, per prior reviewer, don't know where the metal theory comes from. They are easy to play and can range from very quiet to medium loud. My 2 year old loves them, and I could listen to her play these all day.
