If this toy had a VOLUME CONTROL, it would be GREAT! We love this kit, it's the perfect size for my little guy, who got it for Christmas when he was 10 months old. I can't imagine a child older than 2 using it comfortably, though. There are lots of different settings when you turn it on, you can drum along with a few different tunes, or you can drum by yourself with no background tunes. It was easy to put together, it's held up great to both my baby and my older son (age 7) banging on it with all their might. It teaches cause and effect well for the younger set, but that's really the only educational benefit. Another thing I dont love is that the kick pedal for the bass drum (the big drum) doesn't click IN, or attach securely to the set. It just has a couple of grooves to fit into underneath the set, and it comes right out from under there if you move the drums or if a small child pulls it out. ALSO, the big bass drum isn't electric at all, like the toms and the symbol are, they all have an electric drum response, but the bass drum sound is just the sound of the pedal hitting the plastic. That was a little disappointing, but not a total let down. Over all, my son LOVES this toy and plays with it all the time. We really love the auto-shut off feature; there is an on/off switch but if you leave the drums on, eventually the music will stop on it's own and the set will quiet. However, if you come back to it and hit the toms again, the music starts back up.

Along with a play guitar, I gave my 13 mos old grandson this set. While this is for a little older children, we watch him very carefully especially with the drumsticks but he is so musically oriented he went right to drumming away. I even posted a video on u tube of him playing with him hitting the cymbal(?) at the very end...too cute. The flashing lights add to his enjoyment but there is no doubt in my mind this child will be into music and I think it so important to nurture their talents. Has the little foot thing, a stool, and all kinds of fun for little minds.

We bought this for our almost-2 year old last Christmas. He loved it, and we thought it was a cool little toy drum set. It was great for about 2 weeks, then the symbol sound stopped working. A week later the snare sound stopped working...I called the customer service number of the manufacturer and they said they would send out a replacement, which they did, cost free. Great. Only it was about a month before the second one came up with the same problem. Your child will have some fun with this, but I really feel a toy ought to work for longer than a few weeks to a month. I now have two mostly broken Winfun Jr. Rock Band drum sets sitting in the toy room.

Our 4 year old son LOVES this. It's actually NOT driving the rest of us crazy (so that's a good thing)

The musical selections are tolerable. The durability seems to be pretty good. For a genuinely noise-creating toy, this product is not bad (and trust me, I am very picky with pitches, keys of music, and songs)

Our only complaints are: no volume control and one of the "cymbals" doesn't respond to hits.

Over all, my little rock star loves this and has been rocking out continuously since Christmas morning.

When I opened the box to set up this drum set for my one year old grandson, I was not sure that it would pass the "kid test". However, once the batteries were installed and the rhythm began, my grandson did not want to play with anything else. He danced to the rhythm and beat the cymbals/drumheads as if he had prior training. The digital sounds are great! It is a perfect first drum set for a prodogy drummer!
