This is good stuff but they need to add more directions to the kit. Specifically; how do you preserve and reuse the excess if you only have one habitat to refill, and how much food coloring should you use to dye the gel. That said, they still get 5 stars because when you email them the questions, they answer back right away.

I got this gel and was very exited about it, and made a rainbow gel habitat (although it took forever to find instructions online, since they weren't in the kit). However, the ants had no idea what to do, because it just felt unnatural to them (I had a queen with eggs and a few soldiers).
Within a few days the gel started to get slimy on the surface, and within just a few days more, mould began to appear along the wall of the jar. Many eggs and soldiers drowned in this slime, so I had to move the remaining ants (the queen and just one soldier left) and throw all the gel out, and make a new habitat with just plain soil/dirt. Not 3 seconds went by when the queen got in to her new natural habitat, and she started digging like she had been longing for for so long.
I don't know what went wrong, but I tried contacting Ant Chow on their new email address, which turned out not to be working. I send the email to their old address which I had some contact on just a few weeks previous, but I never got a reply.

I still purchased this after reading negative reviews, and it wasn't too bad. The ants still murdered each other and mold did start developing after about a week. The ants were very reluctant to tunnel ineven after I started some pretty good holes with a straw. Idk, maybe they just don't like it. Long story shortit's okay if it's just for a one day science project.

This powder mixed quickly and easily into a beautiful gel. We used it as replacement for the original gel that our previous ants chewed up. After adding our local red harvester ants, we noticed that these ants did not burrow, but wandered listlessly around the farm on the surface of the gel. After a few days of this we released them back where they came from. The gel started to get a dark moldy layer on the top, and now has a pretty good coat of the disgusting stuff. So, probably have to throw it out and get some more.
