Celestial globes seem a bit odd. After all, we look UP and OUT at the stars, so it takes a shift of perspective to really grasp the idea of looking DOWN and IN at the stars. The best way to think of it is to picture yourself WITHIN the globe looking outward. The celestial equator can be thought of as the Earth's surface.
This is a nice, inexpensive, smallish celestial globe that will teach you (and your kids) the names of the major constellations. There are better, fancier ones, but for its price, this one will serve well.
