I purchased a set of these for myself for Christmas and had to go back to the store to get another one.

For my husband.

He would not let me play with mine!!!

Now, we have two of these in the house, and both work perfectly.

First, let me say that this is NOT a substitute for a real drum -it is also NOT made to hit on surfaces (it is really an air drum). It is unfair to judge it by saying "you can't learn proper positioning of the drum" and compare it in this fashion to a real drum set. What this WILL do for you is teach you rhythm and coordination, and also help you see if you have a natural aptitude for drums.

Also, probably not the best toy for kids under 10. You have to have your basic coordination ready before trying this. So, again, unfair to say the toy doesn't capture children, when it is actually not really a toy. It is not designed for children. Older kids and adults, however, would love it. For younger children, I would recommend starting with the Bop It toy, which is awesome teaching basic coordination, endurance and rhythm.

The features we love most are as follows:

1. The sound is excellent. It does sound like a real drum set, with several different drums, all the basics and some extras -the bass pedal feels realistic and the speakers are big enough to give the bass drum a real "bassy" sound. My husband, who is an electronic engineer specializing in speakers, was absolutely hooked by the technology involved in making these.

2. The sticks are very responsive. The range is very wide -we can hit it everywhere around it, and it still works. The picture on instruction sheet is very conservative, as we have the receiver on top of the table and the bass drum under the table, BEHIND it, and it still works every time. If your does NOT do this, then your unit is defective and you should return it PRONTO. But get a new one that works because it is worth it.

3. We can plug in our respective units to our Ipods and then plug our headphones to each unit, and be in opposite sides of the living room playing drums and not bother each other, or the neighbors.

4. Portable! Still small enough to be easily carried in a small bag.

5. The new feature, FOLLOW, lets you play the same sound on both sticks. So we can do a drum roll! And other cool neat tricks like funky intros, etc. which you probably can't do with other products... since they won't let you have the same sound on both sticks. So, drumrolls are finally possible.

6. There is a rhythm machine built into it that you can use to learn different rhythms. There are six, I think, and some of them are pretty hard, but again, they did another brilliant choice by allowing you to slow the tempo down -or make it faster if you are a nutcase.

The bad things we found:

1. My husband's first unit had to be exchanged because it originally did not work properly. The range of the receiver was such that you had to keep the sticks on a very small area and could not really "go nuts" and play music and have fun (my hubby thinks it is an antenna issue). The foot pedal for the bass drum also was only working one every other time, and so it was very annoying. If this was our first unit, we would have said To HECK with this and probably would just have returned for our money.

But as we had one unit working perfectly in the house, we knew it was only a defect.

Now we have two units working great. It IS worth it to exchange until you get the working unit. Believe me!

2. You can't be very close to the other unit if you have two. Since our receivers are so awesome, we have to keep a few feet away as they are tuned for the same frequency. So, if you have two units, beware. This can be fun, however, as we have kept them close so that we have the bass sound come in stereo and basically jam together -although we find that the signal gets confused when four sticks play at the same time --I wonder why, lol)

3. Mmm no, that's it, only two.

Go get one! Don't listen to the other people!!! They don't KNOW!!!

Now back to jamming! :D

I don't beleive they were intended for your child bc they are pro air drum sticks witha kick drum. So unless ur child can utilize the kick drum and keep a steady timing signature with the sticks while playin, u might wanna get them a remote controlled car. Ur kids may like drumming but u can't give this a bad review all bc either 1-they are too young, 2unquardinated or 3 they are old enough but have no idea what they are doing. This is a great product and I find it fun and my set works, maybe all u people got a bad set of them. But mine stays on time when I play and works just fine ...love em!

A friend had this the other day and it was the most fun I have had in a long time trying to imitate the one before me on the drums. It is really easy and it so much fun and the sound is great.

Honest reviews on Mi Jam Pro Air Drummer

technical issues:

1. You will need a small battery factory for this... 10 batteries, which are not included. Fair enough.

2. Quality and finishing are OK for an avarage toy, but it feels cheap (which it is)

Drumming:

1.You will have to learn to drum... don't expect it to play for you. I found some drumming lessons on Youtube which where very helpful

2.Hitting the air is more difficult than hitting a drum because there is no recoil. I used a piece of spunge as a virtual drum rather than hitting the air.

3.The only major flaw is the buttons which are used for selecting the different drums. They are poorly engineered and hard to adjust to.

I gave it a 5 star because after all said, it's worth the price and the try

If you will use it once and then throw it in the attic is up to you

You will have to practice in order to enjoy it
