My 3rd graders loved these for practicing capacity conversion. Very durable, but they are not designed to hold water. They leak badly. The lids are not designed to hold water at all. You can use colored rice though.

My son was having trouble remembering measurement equivalents. Posters, drawings, and measuring cups weren't enough. I discovered this set in a curriculum catalog and what caught my eye was that the set uses containers similar to what you'd find in real life such as the gallon jug and pint containers one typically buys milk in.

The set is made from study plastic, a little oily, but that'll wash off. (The set just arrived this afternoon.) Measurements are in US and Metric, and there are lots of them. Example: the gallon jug is marked in cups, pints, quarts, 1/2 gallon, gallon (the line is slightly below the top, just where milk would be filled to,) and oz.

Though I haven't used it yet, and when I do it'll be in a homeschool setting with only one child, the set seems durable enough for a regular school or preschool setting.

Definitely worth the money and I wish I'd found it sooner!

This is great for young visiual learners. The light seems to come on when they hold the smaller containers and pour it into a larger container and see how much it holds.

The Common Core Curriculum now includes more measurement, both standard and metric. I used this set yesterday and it was a good visual for understanding size relationships. I'm back for another set.
