I recently purchased this table for my 2 year-old son for Christmas. I was amazed at the quailty and ease of assembly! I was expecting a nightmare and was pleasantly surprised!
This table comes with metal brackets already secured on the base pieces by screws and glue. These metal brackets fit together and along with the cross beam and table top make an extremely strong table! No washers, screws, or even tools! It was together in less than 5 minutes in fact, getting the pieces out of the box was harder than assembly!
This table is extremely well packaged. Each part is wrapped with a foam wrap, then all parts that could cause damage to other wood parts (like the metal brackets) are covered in thick cardboard to prevent any damage or bending of the brackets.
The table is beautiful a great honey color that goes perfectly with my son's room. As of 11-5-06 Amazon did not have the correct picture of this table the color was for the natural table, not the honey table. If you do a google search first, several images will come up of the honey table. Also, the KidKraft Construction City Train Set is pictured with the honey table and trundles.
The train table top is engaging, and well thought out, providing many places for your vehicles to travel and avoid (like the painted lake)! The top is thick, and hard to scratch up. After several months of use, there are only minor surface scratches, nothing beyond the paint and that's with my 2 year-old banging his trains and trucks on it hours each day!
I love KidKraft's quality products, and this product is no execption. I firmly believe you get what you pay for, and this is a great example! Great quality, great value!
PSif you are looking for storage for all of those trains, check out the honey trundles that accompany this table (pictured with the table)they fit right under with casters, so they roll away for easy , large, storage two of them are as large as the table!

We bought this table for our 2 year old for his birthday, and he loves it. A big plus is that it is compatible with wooden Thomas and Friends trains, just be aware that it is "mostly compatible" the magnets for the Thomas cars/engines are stronger, and they don't handle the hills with as much ease. This can lead to tragic derailments with large trains going down hills, but I suppose that can teach future railroad engineers a lesson about loading beyond capacity. Also, there is no way to line up the parts that involve water (bridge and waterfall) with the water printed on the table you have to decide whether the waterfall or the bridge goes over the main body of water, but not both. These are minor gripes though, and overall it's a fun toy that our son loves.Best Deals for KidKraft Waterfall Mountain Train Set and Table
OK, I was very hesitant about ordering this item as it seemed too good to be true. We had been to the big box stores and they have all the brand name Thomas sets and if you enjoy nice packaging and the idea of spending big bucks for tiny sets, read no further and waste your money at the local retailer. However, if you want a great train set and a table to keep everything elevated and organized, this deal is too good to pass up. Package came via UPS free shipping; no tax (depends where you live); box was in tact and in good shape. Table was easy to assemble less than 30 minutes. Instructions are clear and easy to understand and illustrate every step. I was so pleased with the table, I figured the train set would be lacking in some way just the opposite. All the track pieces are uniform and fit together well. Some of the town pieces (helipad & crane) require assembly, but are easy as well. The whole time I was putting this together and setting it up, I was thinking how much our little boy will love this set. He is only 2 but he is very careful with his toys. Set says ages 3 and up you will have to use your own judgement. I will most likely scale down the number of pieces I let him play with and give him more as time passes. This will keep his interest peaked and also help to avoid lost pieces.Honest reviews on KidKraft Waterfall Mountain Train Set and Table
Many of the reviews listed under this item have got to be for the wrong set. So many of them clearly don't apply to it. This does come in natural, not honey as one reviewer stated. It is very sturdy and screws together with very long, very fat screws that screw into a metal cap to keep them in place. The screws even have the outside 1/3 painted the same color as the table to make them blend in nicely. All the edges are nicely rounded. At first I was put off by the three cheesy looking plastic bins that came with the table. I had specifically emailed the seller and asked if it came with the trundle drawers and was told yes. I was expecting the large wooden drawers. However, these plastic bins hang on rods under the table, keeping them off the floor and out of the way. They also leave enough room for my son's wooden Thomas train caddy under the table as well. I've decided they are better than the wood drawers, although I wouldn't have chosen them.
The train set is really amazing and more than I expected. It is much higher quality than the Melissa & Doug set I purchased. It put together easily and the elevated bits are well-designed to keep the tracks together instead of falling apart like the M&D and Thomas ones do. The supports for the elevated track keep the tracks together, and the bridges have a small platform at their edges to hold the adjacent track up. The elevations are really smooth--my son loves giving the train a push and having it roll down the elevation and a bit more on the flat track.
My two issues with the tracks are:
1) It doesn't match the printed landscape on the table. I found it impossible to not have tracks going into water and over the road. I also couldn't get the road crossing piece to match up with the road. I wound up turning over the boards and using the plain side instead.
2) The waterfall bottom tunnel opening doesn't line up well with the track. Thomas trains are too big to go through this tunnel without getting stuck because the track is too close to the left edge of the tunnel on one side and the right edge on the other side. I'm considering gluing something to the bottom of the waterfall to raise it a bit and give more room for the trains. In the set's defense, the included trains are significantly smaller than Thomas trains and probably fit through without a problem. The top tunnel in the waterfall works perfectly with Thomas trains.
The variety of extra pieces is mind-boggling. You get cars, trucks, a steam-roller, an airport with helipad, a helicopter, an airplane, a runway, a crane with girders that can be hooked and un-hooked, one-dimensional police station, fire station and hospital, a boat, trees, people and lots of signs.
I know I'm reviewing the right product because I bought it from this very page. Be wary of reviews saying this isn't sturdy or has available wooden trundle drawers as they are the wrong product.

We really like this table. The train portion of the table has a good picture. You can flip the boards to plain wood--we've done that to convert to a lego/art table. The drawers underneath, when full of trains etc., are too heavy for the slats and will fall. Then again, we have a lot of train track. The track and trains/toys that come with this set were not up to par. The mountain is cheap and some real Thomas trains have trouble going through. Our airport didn't come with screws (and I'm sure KidKraft would have sent new ones, but we didn't take the time). The bridge, gas station, helicopter, and crane broke within six months. We didn't mind too much since we had other stuff to replace it with, but if this were my only set, I would have been disappointed. The trains were really cheap. So, the table/is still great. The track works. We like it overall, but then there's all that other stuff to consider.
