Having been rubbish at school at learning languages I was a bit sceptical of learning French using the kloo game, but have been proven wrong! Four friends and I are travelling to Europe to celebrate one of the groups 50th birthday, I set myself the challenge of learning French. Whilst others in the group have been going to weekly Italian night classes I have used only the Kloo cards and have been thrilled. I'm remembering the words, I'm able to string together sentences, I've had a lot of fun my 17 year old daughter actually wants to play it with me rather than me having to bribe her! There are heaps of games which you can play on your own, with someone else or with a group, we've also made up our own games and rules. I'm now going to get packs 3 & 4 and am looking forward to learning even more.Best Deals for KLOO's Learn to Speak French Language Card Games Pack 1 (Decks 1
I have long thought that playing a game would be the perfect way of learning a language. However I have searched high and low and found almost nothing. I was excited when I finally found Kloo. The game has an innovative approach. You build sentences by combining cards. Each card represents 1 word and additionally defines 1 (different) word. So your brain maintains that sense of curiousness about the word that helps you seek out and remember its meaning. You search other cards for the definition of this word. The main 2 areas for improvement of this game are (1) that players can take a long time to make their sentence. We solved this by requiring players to make their sentence before their turn. (2) Since we really knew no French at all, I had no idea how to pronounce the words. The cards do print a pronunciation so really this is not an issue but I found it helpful to install the excellent free app on my smartphone called Google Translate. This app is great because it can speak words to you. We also used Google Translate to help us have an immersive experience. We looked up the French for "your turn" and "this word means".One neat twist is that because you are building sentences out of words at random, you assemble pretty silly sentences. This reminds me of the very funny game "You've Been Sentenced" in that respect. We have fun hamming it up as we pronounce the silly sentences in our best French accent.
Bottom line: my kids (10 and 8) and I had fun and learned quite a few French words! Definitely a worthwhile product.
Honest reviews on KLOO's Learn to Speak French Language Card Games Pack 1 (Decks 1
I've been wanting to improve my French for a while now, so when my daughter (homeschooled) asked me to help her learn French, I was pretty excited. I've taken classes in high school and in college, but the best way I've been able to learn the language is by using it, and KLOO is a wonderful way to just jump in and start speaking French to each other. One of my main problems was figuring out French word order, which is often different from English, so this is helping me greatly as the whole game is about putting sentences together. Even better, my daughter and I are both learning at our own levels, yet using the same game! She's learning her vocabulary so much faster than she would have with traditional ways of learning, because she wants to do better each game. As she learns a word, she gets more points. I just can't say enough about these cards!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for KLOO's Learn to Speak French Language Card Games Pack 1 (Decks 1
My husband and I purchased French Kloo Decks 1 & 2 without knowing if we would enjoy this game. Not a very expensive risk but still a risk because we did not see it in our local stores or knew of any friends who owned them so that we could try the game out first. We had a blast! It was a little challenging at first since we are very new to French but now we realize how much we have learned when days later we are remembering the words from playing the game. They stick in your brain! I should add that the words on the cards are useful and are needed for everyday language which is very important to us.
I highly recommend this game for anyone new to the language and needing a fun and interesting way to learn it.
