This toy piano is a great toy. My 8-month old baby loved it and started banging on it as soon as we took it out of the box. A bench part was defective, but we contacted Schoenhut directly, who sent us a replacement bench very quickly. However, since my baby hasn't quite mastered the art of sitting still, the bench is pretty worthless at this point (though she loves banging on it too, and uses it to climb things).
The adult-size keys are great. The sound quality is fine (glockenspiel tones), and are actually pleasantly muted, so I'm not terribly concerned about bothering the neighbors in my building. The keys are quite clacky, though, and one or two of them stick unless struck hard. None of these things deter an 8-month-old, and since she doesn't mind, I don't either.
The piano itself is adorable, and looks great in the nursery. Since it's just a toy piano, it doesn't matter if she bangs on it or chews on it (unlike my real piano, on which I do not encourage teething or ill-treatment).
There's a color strip that you can put up with the keys to learn to play. While my child is way too young for it at this point, my non-musical spouse actually started picking out some basic tunes on the keyboard, which was a pleasant surprise.
I'm not sure how well this toy works for older children. I think it depends on the child. When I was 3, I was playing an adult piano just fine. I plan on introducing my child to a real piano too, just as soon as she learns some language and fine motor control (and perhaps finishes teething).
All in all, it's a great piano. Minus one star for the clacky sticking keys, but otherwise, it's delightful for me and fun for my child.
