I'm 23 and I bought this for myself since I'm a huge dinosaur enthusiast, but I could see a child loving this thing. While digging wasn't as fun for me as I'm sure it would be for a child, the model that's hidden in the stone is pretty awesome and true to an actual velociraptor skeleton. I would say that an adult definitely needs to help his/her child to both uncover and assemble the skeleton, but the model is relatively sturdy and should hold up nicely against a child's curiosity. The skeleton looks ancient, too! Overall a neat model and experience that a child (or a 23-year-old!) can enjoy.

We got this after I saw a home schooling blog post about it on Pioneer Woman. I was so impressed that when it came time to go to a birthday party for a 6 year old boy who likes dinosaurs I thought of this. Of all the toys he got this was the one he and the other kids kept coming up and asking if they could open right away. They saved it for later and apparently it was a lot of fun. The model looks very nice and sits displayed in their living room.

This toy was fun until we realized the lower jaw was missing. All chunks of the matrix were pulverized to dust, still no jaw piece. The velociraptor is decidedly less scary and awesome without the ability to chomp. Pretty disappointed. :(

My four grandkids love this product. I have bought several and they have a lot of fun with it.

Naturally, this is done outside. Do not attempt inside because there is a lot of debris given off by the scrapping to find the pieces.

They love it and have fun putting it together.

My grandson absolutely loved this Dino kit. He is 5 and had a blast with it. He and his 7 year old sister had so much fun together unearthing the bones. We followed the advice of other buyers and used water to wet it down to make excavating easier for a 5 year old. Being able to make a model of the bones is terrific.
