My daughter is 14 months and was ecstatic when she saw this. She's in a new Elmo phase and she fell in love with this microphone! It's very easy for her to use, she figured out how to push the buttons immediately after I showed her once. There is a side button on the left that makes Elmo's glasses come down and he asks who turned the lights out, but this button isn't so easy to push. Since it's a Christmas gift and we haven't taken it out of the box, maybe she will be able to push it when she's holding it. Elmo sings adorable, recognizable kid songs that had her dancing right away! The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because of the volume. You can not adjust the noise level and this microphone is L-O-U-D!!! I know how loud other toys are, and this is probably (I'm not exaggerating) in the top 3 loudest toys we've ever owned. (The others had their batteries taken out because they were just too loud.) When I'm sitting by her trying to sing the song with her, I know she can't hear me singing!! (Which may be a good thing...) Do they have it this loud that so when kids sing into it they can still hear the song and not loose their place?? I would still highly recommend this to any Elmo lover, just beware of how LOUD ELMO CAN SING!

my 14 month old twins liked it so much we had to order two! the buttons are easy to push and the volume is good (some toys are too loud). and the best part is the off switch on the back!

My husband almost threw it away the first day (we got it as a gift from some people who must REALLY love us.) Both my kids are fighting over this toyI have a 2 year old and a 10 month oldboth are able to push buttons/make noise...fortunately only the 2 year old is able to turn it on and off. Great present to give someone else's kids :-) I like that it's teaching my 2 year old some songs she's yet to "master."

I first saw this toy in a store while casually shopping ahead for my son's second birthday. While playing with it with my sister I assumed it was in some sort of demo mode and that was why I could not sing into it in the store, so I put it on his wishlist and he received it for his birthday through Amazon. I was very disappointed when we unpacked it and there was no demo mode, no tag to pull out. Both the buttons on the front did the same thing, play the songs, and there was no singing into it. Someone had already throw the recycling out and it was picked up the very next morning, so there was no returning it.

Frustrated to put 'microphone' on his Christmas list after just buying one for him I decided to open the bad boy up since he had zero interest in it. After removing THIRTEEN screws from the back I was able to find inside the little tag that needed to be removed to get it out of demo mode. I could barely get it open enough to slip a finger in to push it out of the little hole in the back of the head, directly below and between the eyes, then pull it all the way through. Sure enough, all the screws back in and now it works as a microphone! My son was very excited, running around the kitchen while I replaced all of the screws asking for his microphone. I'm relieved to be able to take microphone back off of his Christmas list!

This toy is loud like other reviewers stated. But I think that's not a big problem. The problem is Elmo's voice gets static, it's not as clear after a short while. The quality is not very good, although it did provide much fun at the beginning.
