Don't goof around with crappy kits that you buy from high school science project suppliers. This is a beautiful piece of engineering that runs just like it sounds. I ran it on a cup of coffee, then transferred it to a tray of ice and ran it backwards (sorta...). I'm going to use it to teach about the Carnot cycle in the fall. A great price on this nicely-crafted engine.

A very nice engine that runs on the heat of your coffee, tea or hot chocolate. The connections are more robust than similar engines. Overall it is a very nice gadget for demonstrating work from heat.

The walls of the cylinders are clear so all the internal actions can be seen.

It can be run MUCH faster than I had anticipated a heat engine with heat exchange in the cycle.

This fits on top of a mug of hot water (fill to within 1/4 inch of top of mug) and runs quite well.

If an ice cube is then put on the top to increase the temperature difference, the fly wheel really takes off.

I look forward to finding out if it can be powered with an external motor to generate refridgeration effect.
