This diary is all that it claims to be. I am very pleased with it, and was proud to give it as a gift to a young girl that I mentor in our local elementary school.

I loved this diary! The lock works very well. All you have to do to open it is to insert the key and turn the key to the left until you hear a click. The spacing is large, which is good for children who write in big letters. The diary is hardcover, and it lasts long. The diary was smaller than I thought it would be. If your child is fond in writing, or you would like to get them interested, this is the diary for you!

Our seven year old really wanted a locked diary so we let her go through all we found on here and the "doggie one" is what she chose.

When it arrived, it looked even cuter than pictured and she was quite pleased. She even wrote it in that first day and then the second. The lock, however, or the way the book is secured is a problem and after a couple of days, she stopped using the diary. My guess is because she got tired of struggling with it. We had to keep helping her open and close it. There's a metal loop or bar or circle on each cover that you have to hold togethr to get the tiny padlock to hitch on and then click shut. The padlock just barely fits and you have to really push to close it and she's not quite strong enough to do that AND hold the covers together. It shouldn't be that difficult. Anyway, as I wrote, she has stopped writing it.

If you're looking for a locked journal, you might want to check one at a local card shop to check that the lock isn't going to present a problem as I suspect most of the ones on here will lock similarly to this. So, though you can return things easily, it's hard when it's something like this as the child will probably want to keep it initially and then grow frustrated with the lock and stop using it, but by then s/he will have written in the book and it'll be too late to return.

We bought this last year for our Daughter. I can assure you, this book can take a "licking and keep on ticking." The lines are a nice "wide ruled" spacing, perfect for my younger daughters handwriting. The lock is sturdy and didn't break despite being dropped and banged around many times. It is a great book.
