Cheap Velleman® Steam-Engine Sound Generator Kit

The sound is at best an escaping steam noise and a "squeaking " whistle NOTHING like a STEAM Locomotive or a Loco Whistle..!! The two controls don't do what is described the "volume" also affects the sound character and the "SPEED" is only changing usable in the last 30% of the potentiometer. Therefore, it's useless as a serious sound effect generator for a model railroad or Steam Locomotive and too expensive for a "toy". The time for assembly was a waste but at least the instructions were correct and easy, no parts missing (to say at least something POSITIVE) ... SORRY..!!! P.K.H.

A very good product, very easy to assemble and works just like advertized, excellent steam engine noise, a little low on the volume, I installed it on my powerchair to alert people and to help me to not run over them. I have ordered many products through Amazon and have been pleased by their service.

Nice little circuit board and easy to assemble if you have had previous experience in wiring and soldering. The switch for the train sound and for the whistle in integrated onto the board so there was a little extra work to make these external. The sound is not bad, particularly if you use a much better speaker than that enclosed. I would recommend and buy again. Great service from company.

They were not kidding when they said this was a kit to assemble!!! I am not a hobbiest and thought that this would be a great addition to a homemade Christmas toy! Well, it probably will be as soon as I can get my husband to show me how to use a saudering iron. You get the blank green circut board and all the integrated circuts and chips and buttons etc. they come in a package that includes a technical schematic and you get to follow the map and sauder each tiny piece into the chipboard and then clip their excess wires. (Just be really careful about their polarity!)

If all goes just right I should have a working sound part. I assume that the working criteria is not an Amazon guarantee as it is put together by us and not them. I am not sure I would have purchased something this technical if I had been fully aware of what type of a project this was going to be or if I understood what assembly required ment here. (Much more than attaching a 9v battery!) :) If you do not have a saudering iron or the courage to learn something new...you would probably not want to purchase this item.

I think it is a fair price for what you get, if you know what you are getting!

Anyways, wish me luck! If I can pull this off, it will be a really cool addition to a super cool homemade toy!
