I purchased this product because my child is a hands-on learner and the worksheets she was doing at school for math were just making her bored. I was looking for something interactive, but not computer-based for her to practice her math skills with.

The way the system works is that you choose cards for the child (or let them choose the ones that interest them), and then they use the Hot Dots pen to choose the correct answer to the problem presented on the card. Multiple possible answers are given. If the child chooses an incorrect answer, the pen flashes a red light and/or makes a noise. If the child chooses the correct answer, the pen flashes a green light and/or makes a noise.

This blue box of math problems contains a large assortment of standards-based math problem cards (300 cards with 600 questions). The materials are all full-color, bright and inviting. There are 25 categories the cards fall into: Fractions, Patterns, Sequencing, Skip Counting, Ordering, Geometric Figures, Months of the Year, Measurement, Temperature, Addition and Subtraction, and more. The categories are divided in the box with tabs for easy finding.

There is a copyable progress sheet to use, where you check off the cards the child has completed. The progress sheet also uses the categories.

There is an answer key included.

This box does *not* include the Hot Dots pen, so you will need to order that as well.

I leave the box out in a community space in our home and my daughter sits down with it to practice her math of her own free will. No yelling required! A nice asset for home reinforcement of school materials.

I bought this for my class. It has a wide selection of grade appropriate topics. The children love to use it. I would recommend it as a review for small groups or individuals only.

I'm an elementary educator & parent of 2 sons (ages 6 & 7) and we LOVE Hot Dots! I first saw them in a teacher's store and purchased one to try them out. My son's absolutely enjoyed getting the answers correct and the immediate feedback from the "talking pen." The grade/skill appropriate and interactive, one-on-one capability makes it very easy to differentiate with children of varied ages & abilities. From beginning phonics and basic math skills to science, word problems, vocabulary & reading comprehension Hot Dots covers many state learning standards while being fun and keeping children engaged.

We use them at home, driving to school & on road trips. They have been very helpful especially in the car because the children are independently engaged, while also allowing you to use the immediate feedback to review the incorrect answers with your child and build their critical thinking skills by asking them "why they chose the answer they did."

I bought them to my school to share with teachers for use in their small groups and the students fell in love with them also. Now many of the students are begging their parents to get them Hot Dots. I highly recommend Hot Dots for teachers' use in small groups or centers; during guided reading; for remediation and enrichment; and even for use as class "incentives" for student use when they have correctly and thoroghly completed in-class assignments early.
