My toddler is a Duplo freak and I got tired of a sea of Legos covering our living room floor, so I started looking at Lego tables to contain them and provide her with a work space. This one was a bit spendy, but I'm really happy with this purchase for the following reasons:
Likes:
1. Wood Designs website claims its products are very eco-friendly, made with non-toxic finish, Greenguard certified, etc. That was the most important factor for me in choosing this item and I have to say, no smell when I opened the box (no need to off-gas in the garage before use yay!).
2. Rounded corners and not tippy. Very practical.
3. Arrived super fast (Wayfair shipped) and completely assembled!
4. Plenty of storage (and we're going to add baskets to the "cubbies" below for more storage).
5. Looks great with our other light colored living room furniture. A solid, sturdy piece.
6. The slide-out panels can be partially slid out to provide access to the Legos stored below while the child continues building on their surface. (Better solution than the Lego tables where the top flips up and thus you can't build while accessing the blocks).
Dislikes:
1. My main complaint with this has to do with the Lego plates affixed to one side of each slide-out panel. They claim to be Duplo compatible, but I tried using them and lots of her Duplos don't easily snap in. In part, I think the problem is that the Lego plates are stapled onto the board, resulting is some warping/bowing between the staple sites and thus not a completely flat surface (seems like glueing them on would have resulted in a flatter surface as well as avoiding seeing the staples, but who knows). In any case, rather than listen to my toddler shriek in frustration when the blocks don't fit, I just turned it over the flat checkerboard side and put one of the Duplo base plates that we already own on there, and problem solved.
2. The slide-out panels are working fine so far but I do wonder if there is a risk that they will get pushed all the way out and land on someone's toe at some point. They are solid and heavy.
Giving it a 4 out of 5 (one point docked for the Lego plates -since its whole point is to be used as a Duplo building surface, I think that should work more easily right out of the box) but would highly recommend it still and there is an easy workaround to that issue as described above.
