The Zometool version of the Platonic solids brings them to life as 3d models that goes far beyond any two dimensional representation can possibly do. I recommend Zometoolsfor learning about 3d geometric objects but I found the instructions and information about the solids to be a little sparse for the price and its educational purpose. The duals to each solid can be very difficult to assemble and there seems to have been a change in the product since the full color instructions were printed. Instead of colored "foam" pieces, they are now clear plastic pieces. The dodecahedron inside the icosahedron was very challenging to assemble and I had to resort to scotch tape to help the pieces together but the other solids went together fairly easily. The Zometool web page states this kit is temporarily unavailable so I hope any new versions addresses these issue. Overall I recommend the kit not just for younger students but also for any serious thinker who recognize the importance of geometry in understanding Plato's philosophy and mathematics. Its a great visualization tool and they are fun to construct as well.
